LULA, MISSISSIPPI (Isle of Capri Casino) – Prospect Lamont Peterson, 12-0 (6 KOs), Washington, DC, 140¼, defeated tough Miguel Torrecillas, 16-5-1 (7 KOs), Mexico, 141¾, over the ten-round route. It was Peterson’s television debut.

Peterson, managed by kingmaker Shelly Finkel, displayed an array of talents including solid in-fighting, swift and accurate combinations, and patience beyond his experience – but little power.

It is clear that his team is moving him along deliberately; indeed Torrecillas was his first opponent holding a winning slate. Nonetheless, there is obvious talent and a lot of time to refine his skills for the more skilled opponents in his future.

Scoring for the bout was 98-92; 100-90; 100-90 all for Peterson. The Sweet Science saw the fight at 99-91.

Televised Undercard:

In a female bout, powerful Ann Wolfe, 21-1 (14 KOs), Austin, TX, 165, stopped Monica Nunez, 9-4 (5 KOs), Irvington, NJ, 163¾, as Nunez’s corner halted the bout at the end of round seven of a scheduled eight rounder in the co-feature. It was all Wolfe throughout, with the result never in doubt. Nunez extended the bout using constant movement, but it was clear that only Wolfe came to win.

Alvin Manley, 7-0-1 (3 KOs), Little Rock, 278¾, captured a unanimous four-round decision over Domonick Jenkins, 4-3-2 (1 KO), La Mesa, TX , 227. Scoring was 39-37 on all cards, as well as on The Sweet Science score sheet.
