GORDON OFFERS THOUGHTS ON KLITSCHKO, TONEY AND MORE
By Boxing News August 9th, 2005

Charles Jay, editor-in-chief of The Sweet Science, had the opportunity last week to talk to Randy Gordon, former color commentator, boxing commissioner and magazine editor, regarding the Vitali Klitschko situation that has ultimately produced this weekend’s “interim” heavyweight title fight between Hasim Rahman and Monte Barrett. Was Klitschko wrong in what he did (or didn’t do)? How ridiculous is the concept of an “interim” title? And where do other heavyweights like James Toney, Calvin Brock and Samuel Peter fit into the overall picture at this time? All that and more is discussed on the latest edition of Randy’s Ringside.

I agree with you, Randy, that Floyd Mayweather is a great fighter, but I disagree with your thinking that Winky Wright will destroy him. Mayweather’s speed will give Wright problems all night long.

I remember, during your years as a sportscaster on USA’s “Tuesday Night Fights,” you used to give us your ratings (which you called “Randy’s Ratings”). If you still compile them, could you please send me your heavyweight ratings? Thank you.

Randy I’m so tired of the name Don King. Is there no other promoters (sugar ray, oscar, anyone with the money to offer these up and coming fighters an alternative to Don King)

Randy, do think that you will be doing any promoting of the newest boxers. And do you think that you wil be a part of the new show ” The Contenders”? I think that you have done a great job for the boxing world.
