Amy Green: THE YEAR THAT WAS
By Boxing News December 20th, 2005Best Round of Boxing 2005: Round 10, Corrales/Castillo I. How much punishment can two men endure? Obviously more than normal men. As agonizing as it was thrilling, this round of boxing defined skill, heart and guts and everything primal.
Fighter of The Year 2005: Torn between Chico Corrales and Zahir Raheem but Zahir gets my vote. Zahir fought lots of battles to get to Erik Morales, not all of them in the ring. Having the heart to stay with it and stay true to himself speaks volumes.
Upset of The Year 2005: Zahir Raheem over Erik Morales. How’s that for watching paint dry, Russell Peltz?
Biggest Letdown of the Year 2005: Taylor/Hopkins II. Neither man proved who is the clear-cut best. I doubt if the third time would be the charm.
Biggest Relief of a Fight that DID NOT Happen in 2005: Ann Wolfe vs. a man. And here’s hoping she and Laila Ali get through their manager/ promoter drama over with and step into the ring together in 2006.
Fight of The Year 2005: Of course Corrales/Castillo I, and a close second,Erik Morales/Manny Pacquaio. 2006 will see these warriors resume battle and climb through the ropes against each other yet again.
