Joey Knish: Deja vu all over again
By TSS Predictions January 18th, 2006Deja vu all over again … Manny Pacquiao gets the gloves he wants and won’t have the distractions that were pointed to as part of his downfall in the first bout against Erik Morales. Unfortunately for PacMan, the biggest distraction in the fight was El Terrible and his persistent, accurate shots. Assuming the judges continue to award points for sharp accurate punches as opposed to Manny’s less-technical aggression, look for Morales to again win to a close decision in another exciting fight. It wouldn’t be a surprise if both fighters are hurt at some point and both are likely get cut. And let’s not forget that Pacquiao started as a 108-pound pro and is now fighting at 130; Morales is the stronger man at the weight. If a boxer beats a puncher then Morales eats up PacMan, again.

I agree with your prediction of the fight. The fact that Morales beat THE MAN WHO BEAT THE MAN (PacMan beat Barrera) the first time, gives Morales the edge of confidence he needs entering this second fight.
Also, Morales shines when he is drawn into a brawl. I think PacMan will try to fight intelligently from the outside, using the strategy that gave Raheem a win against Morales, for a couple of rounds but will ultimately be tempted to brawl looking for a KO … and that will spell his demise since he will then be fighting Erik’s type of fight.
Both men will have their moments of trouble during the bout, which will only add to the drama that is already expected from these two great fighters. Morales has experience on his side and seems to rise to the occasion when the man opposite him wants to mix it up.
Morales by VERY CLOSE MAYORITY DECISION in what will certainly be a candidate for fight of the year for 2006.
One thing is certain…the sweet science is NOT an exact science.

Could you please write another commentary about the pacman-El Terrible rematch? I have read all your speculations and predictions. Nobody guessed the outcome of the fight right. What could have happened? Was it really a convincing win by the pacman? Why did Erik Morales tell the press that he was not having a hard time trimming down to 130 lbs, while he mentioned in an interview after the fight that he had trouble reaching the weight limit? Was he telling a lie when he was interviewed before? Did the pacman really deserve the full credit for winning convincingly?
Thanks for your time.

It has been an accepted fact that losers try to give his best alibi. When PAC-MAN lost 10 months ago, he had his alibis, now its El Terribles turn to give nice alibi.
Can we just accept the fact that Pacquiao did his homework. I think Morales was just too confident when he fought Pacquiao last Sunday. Can we attribute it to KARMA?
Also, prayers from Pacquiao’s countrymen helped a lot. He was fighting for his country first. While Morales was fighting more for himself.
Good Luck on your next column.

Deja vu my A** you got it all wrong! The gloves did make a difference and Morales most certainly wasn’t the stronger man at the weight. And the Pacman eats up Morales, chews him and spits him out like a tasteless gum. All said, Morales gave a damn good fight, but the Pacman was just too much for him.
