In Boxing News: Pacquiao Shocks Morales and Experts, Joe Mesi, Hasim Rahman & More
By Boxing News January 23rd, 2006In Boxing News: Manny Pacquiao Shocks Morales and Experts
Not surprisingly, there has been an amazing reaction amongst his countrymen - both in the boxing press and amongst Filipino fight fans - to Manny Pacquiao’s destruction of Erik Morales Saturday night in Las Vegas. It was exactly what boxing needed, as Pacquiao looked devastating and Morales, though going down in defeat, fought like the warrior he is. Many Filipinos were rejoicing early Sunday afternoon says the China Peoples Daily. The ones that weren’t busy rejoicing, I believe, were in a gloating mood and were busy emailing our own Matt Aguilar, who had suggested Pacman’s career might be on the downslide. All I can say is that I hope Matt has a lot of storage space allocated for his email inbox, because the incoming was coming in fast and furious over the last 24 hours. Good luck answering all those emails, Matt. (And to anybody else who is thinking of emailing Matt on this topic, I don’t think it’s necessary … I’m sure he gets the idea.)
The question being asked by the boxing fans I talked to last night was whether it was a case of Pacquiao being that good or Morales being on the decline and not quite the fighter he once was. On Saturday night’s evidence, I think you have to say it was a bit of both. Morales may have struggled to make weight as he suggested, and there can be little doubt that the many wars he has been in must have taken their toll. But make no mistake, this was a different Manny Pacquiao that Erik Morales faced on Saturday night. Pacquiao employed better defense, mixed in the right hand with his straight left and even appeared in better shape than in the first bout. Pacquiao looked nothing short of sensational after the fifth round. Freddie Roach said it was a matter of both he and the Pacman learning from past mistakes.
As regards Erik Moales, Ron Borges in the Boston Globe sums it up: it was not simply Pacquiao who defeated Morales. It was also Marco Antonio Barrera and Jesus Chavez and Injin Chi and Wayne McCullough and Daniel Zaragoza and countless lesser-known fighters whose punches Morales had accepted in exchange for the right to land the bombs that had won him 48 of his previous 51 fights. But that style, a warrior’s style, so exciting and revered by Mexican fight fans, is unforgiving. Morales’s demise Saturday was a reminder to everyone in the crowd of 14,618 that warriors usually end up bloody and beaten if they compete for too long. This does not take anything away from Pacquiao’s victory, but merely puts it in proper perspective. Wherever Morales chooses to go from here, there is no doubt he is one of this generation’s greatest fighters. In an era where a lot of big name boxers have to be coaxed into taking a tough fight, Morales never ducked anyone.
Honorable mention must also go to the entertaining undercard bout between Martin Castillo and Alexander Munoz. It was a hard-hitting affair that left both men bleeding as they traded heavy shots for much of the fight.
Also over the weekend, Houston featherweight Rocky Juarez knocked down Backlin Medrano five times en route to his second consecutive knockout victory.
There’s been a lot written about the health implications of the head injury Joe Mesi sustained, but I’m not sure there is a true understanding amongst boxing fans as to what it all really means. The Buffalo News examines the medical details of Mesi’s injury: A subdural hematoma is a rupture of blood vessels, usually veins, between the brain and its outermost surrounding layer of tissue. The acute subdural hematoma, with severe bleeding and brain damage, is not a common occurrence in boxing but is the leading cause of boxing fatalities. The difficulty in judging Mesi’s case is that he falls into a different category. He had small amounts of bleeding with no apparent underlying damage. Since then, he appears to have fully recovered. The remaining question is whether the injury, however mild, places him at greater risk for another brain injury? Some doctors say he is at no greater risk, others say there simply is no way to know.
Looking forward to his March 18 meeting with James Toney, Hasim Rahman says he will be in the best shape of his life: People can believe what they want to believe, but in this fight, I’m going to be the best Hasim Rahman the world has seen. Of all the fights I’ve had, right now, I’m two weeks away from being in the best shape of any fight I’ve had. In two months, come on. I don’t even want to think about it. Toney has said he will stand right in front of Rahman and dare Rahman to hit him, but Rahman isn’t worried: He might be counting on his defense and making me miss. And I might miss some, but I’m not going to miss everything. And when I do land, that’s when he’s got big problems. It could turn out to be a decent heavyweight fight. Hopefully Toney shows up in decent shape. The Rock is the bigger, stronger man, but Rahman is not great on the inside and if Toney can turn it into an inside battle the Rock is going to have his hands full.

Please dont spin that yarn of Morales getting winded by his past fights. Their dirty tricks department worked the first time around. Last saturday the playing field was levelled. And Pacquiao showed he was on top of these guys league. Morales in his 3 fights with barrera could not put him down. Barrera was not able to knock down Morales. And both suffered a crushing and humiliating defeat to Pacquiao. If you wanna prove my point let Barrera, Morales and Marquez have a round robin and i tell you they’ll give us a very good fight. But they can’t put each down on the canvas. Look at their faces when they lost to Pacquiao.
Your analysis is simply amusing.
January 23rd, 2006 at 6:38 pm
most of the so-called ‘experts’ here who favored Morales to win over Pacquiao obviously based their predictions on the Morales-Pacquiao first encounter. That’s superficial research for you. Whether Morales is on the decline or not, it’s not about who’s taller and bigger it’s more about having the bigger heart.

Dear Mr. Gielty,
Hello. After reading your article, I cannot help to add the fact that before the fight, be it part of the psyche strategy or just simply the truth, the Morales camp made a claim that their man is in his finest shape ever. Not to mention how hard he trained for this match, and that he is supposed to be a “killer” after a preceeding lost fight?
However, post-fight comments Morales made erases all what was said… “I felt tired that’s why I lost” (isn’t stamina one of the best factor considered when you say you are in the finest shape or well conditioned?).
I felt sorry for the guy when he was in a quadruped position on the canvas but I felt even more sorry when the ‘cockiness’ was still there stating that he only “got tired” that is why he lost - whereas the whole world had a difficult time configurating his deformed face after the fight.
On the other hand, Pacquiao in the middle of a personal and ‘national’ jubilance that neither you nor I could really describe, a time when it’s really difficult to say something that you do not genuinely feel, expressed in clear English… to thank the Mexican people also because he only knows too well the feeling of being backed up by your very own countrymen.
Thank you for your time in reading this. More power to your column!
I e-mailed Matt Aguilar my viewpoint regarding his pre-fight comments. I got to read his article post-fight. I found his over-all comments quite credible… You may check with him regarding the rest of my 1-cent(?) :^)
As an amateur in making comments as I am, I hope to hear back from you if at all possible and maybe shed some further light ? I do learn a lot from experts like you guys… Thanks.

filipinos are great fighter thats all i can say. thank you and keep on supporting filipino boxers coz they are amazing.
January 23rd, 2006 at 9:24 pm
I think it was very important for Pacquiao to win, for his country because he’s the pride and hero of the Philippines - lots of filipinos look up to him and lots are proud. So his determination and all his hard work paid off It would have just been great if he won - but he even TKOed Erik Morales, the first time Erik ever got stopped. So I think he did a great job. Now all of Manny’s are rejoicing in his country - the Philippines - but I give lots of credit to Morales also; Pacquiao’s hands are weak since he had to punch hard because of Erik’s strong power.
January 23rd, 2006 at 9:59 pm
After all your gloom and doom predictions about Manny Pacquiao … now lets hear (experts) your excuses to save your faces. Talk like real men, accept the fact that Morales was beaten badly, convincingly- fair and square . I am now hearing from you, that Morales lost because of many hard battles he fought and making the weight. You are sour graping again.
Be a man!!
January 23rd, 2006 at 10:43 pm
Yeah, i agree with you that Morales has competed too long and he has somehow need to rest BUT he need not be beaten so badly. Prior to the event, all boxing analysts had wrongly predicted a Morales victory via decision. Morales could have lost the fight by decision but not a knockout and a worst beating in all his fight! I think credits should be given to Manny Pacquiao, he is truly a greater warrior than Erik Morales.
January 23rd, 2006 at 11:51 pm
the “experts who predicted that pacquiao will lost to morales was again proven wrong of their “prediction”, look what pacquiao has done to erik ” el terrible” morales, a terrible mess of a face.
January 23rd, 2006 at 11:51 pm
As an addition to what has been written above, please note that Erik Morales, before the fight declared that he is in very good shape, even better than when he first met Pacman.
January 24th, 2006 at 12:00 am
Eric put up a good fight but his stamina did not last from the shots to the stomach and ribcage by PacMan. Manny was an irresistable force all night long which Morales could not contain, hence, the TKO in the 10th round. For all the vaunted ring savvy, technical superiority and power of Eric, Barrera and Marquez, they all ended up kissing the canvas or sliding on the floor. The PacMan is at his peak and has improved a lot from a one dimensional fighter to a complete fighter (thanks to Roach) and also posseses courage and devastating fists.
January 24th, 2006 at 12:06 am
i don’t think it’s a different story this time for Morales.. he also had difficulty in making weight the first fight.. it’s the same Morales, even better than the first encounter (paying attention to his physical condition during weigh-in).. same first 5 rounds on both fights with Morales dominating.. the difference is, Pacman got a nasty cut the first encounter, (aside from the fact that Morales is technically more superior).. this time w/o the cut and w/ Pacman improving his style, has clearly beaten Morales.. so I don’t think El Terrible is already worn down by past wars, he’ll be back again, being the same great fighter he is, just like Marco Antonio Barrera after fighting the Pacman..
P.S. thanks for your articles guys, i like reading your stuff
January 24th, 2006 at 12:10 am
To all non-believers,
As what Rudy Tomjanovich said, coach of the 2 - time champion Houston Rockets in the NBA, “DON’T EVER UNDERESTIMATE THE HEART OF A CHAMPION” not only a mere champion but a filipino (people’s) champ…
January 24th, 2006 at 12:10 am
After the fight, I heard and read so many lousy excuses about Erik Morales getting old, had fought many battles, adjusting his weight, etc. Manny proved many boxing experts wrong. In fairness, EM’s a great fighter but Manny’s just powerful with his last fights and I hope he’ll continue to keep up the good work.
January 24th, 2006 at 12:10 am
manny is simply the best pound for pound fighter in the world today! and he has proven that by knocking down “the terrible” erik morales, a fighter who, before the fight has never tasted the canvas. and how dare do he boast that basing on the pre-fight interview, he said that he will finish the fight as soon as possible because he has things to attend to. now what did he get?! he was greatly devastated by our very own “destroyer”!!! so please stop your sour graping and give the “people’s champion” the great credit which he clearly deserves!!!! mabuhay si pacquiao!!! mabuhay ang lahing pilipino!!!
January 24th, 2006 at 1:13 am
erik morales said before the match that he is in perfect shape.. i mean, he even told the media that he is in his finest shape, he also told that he had a better training camp and better feeling now than the first match (pacquiao - morales 1) BUT, now, he told the media that he is tired,. and dehydrated, thats why he lost.. come on.. please, look at erik’s face .. isn’t that enough proof of being battered by his opponent’s hands.. that’s the first time i’ve seen morales’ face like that in his pro career.. and.. morales is not the only one that has great fights. please remember that pacquiao is also the only boxer to knock out barrera who is the current WBC champ.. give the guy some credit.. pacquiao is a great fighter too.
January 24th, 2006 at 1:13 am
yeah. i agree. Manny Pacquiao is indeed a fighter (at its finest).
A great athlete.
There was Elorde. Nepomuceno. Villa.
But there’s only one boxer who was known to unite the Filipino people even just for the time spent for the 10 rounds.
Rock on Manny! I salute you!

Mabuhay ang mga Pilipino!
January 24th, 2006 at 1:33 am
one thing for sure manny pacquioa has done a great job … now he is the new hero for the philippines. for eric morales he must retire as soon as posibble he won’t recover anymore … look at his face … you can’t recognize him anymore if you will fight manny again think twice.
January 24th, 2006 at 1:46 am
After seeing the fight…it is clear who is better warrior…and that is the Pacman. he showed great heart and determination. i love erik but stop the crap that you lose because you encountered many hard fights…..Pacman was clearly the man and i don’t think any mexican fighter can do anything about it…even marco antonio barrera will suffer the same fate as happened to ‘el terrible’….so baby faced assasin be ready for the beating that you will receive from the Pacman….goodluck and best wishes marco……
January 24th, 2006 at 2:40 am
the so-called ‘BOXING EXPERTS’ who predicted Morales to win over Pacquiao once again proven wrong….for you experts - you said ’styles makes fights’ not anymore “big heart, attitude and determination makes fights” and Manny Pacquaio has a lot of it. EXPERTS, I am now hearing from you, that Morales lost because of many hard battles he fought and making the weight. Do you not remember that Erik said “I’m in great shape … mentally and physically”….so what’s wrong? you must now call yourself “EXPERT OF ALIBI”.
January 24th, 2006 at 2:41 am
It was just 10 months since Morales got the edge out of Manny and got only a single loss before this fight, so why should we say that Morales is already tired of all the hard fights that he had. For one, you all agreed that Morales, and even camp says so, is in his greatest shape ever. If tiredness is the issue then he should have lost to Manny in their first fight, since he has already done too many great fights before that.
Let’s face it, Pacquiao has already surpassed all of these boxers’ abilities and that nobody can really match the skills and power that he has.
January 24th, 2006 at 2:44 am
i’m so proud of manny pacquiao coz he did his best to win the figth!!!
keep it up!!!
God bless you and your family!!!
January 24th, 2006 at 2:49 am
Check this out, this came out before the fight, quotes from Morales and his Promoter Bob Arum:
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/columns/story?columnist=rafael_dan&id=2299704
Morales said what happened in the fight with Raheem has no bearing on the rematch with Pacquiao, whom he narrowly outpointed after nearly being knocked out in the 12th round.
“It was just a bad night,” Morales said of the Raheem fight.
“Nothing I tried worked. His style was tough. I knew he was a difficult fighter but I didn’t think he was that difficult. But Raheem never wanted to fight. I just didn’t have it that night. I blame the guy’s style and a lot of movement. He would never stop and trade. If I didn’t go after him, there would have been no fight.
“But Pacquiao and myself always want to fight, so it will be another great fight even if I did lose.”
Whatever the reasons, Morales manager, Fernando Beltran, said the problems are behind him.
“The people from the Philippines think that they have a chance to see the same Erik they saw against Raheem, but that’s not happening,” Beltran said.
“Erik took this fight very seriously and he is healthy. I think he took Raheem lightly. I didn’t see the Morales I always see. Probably, the [additional] weight hurt, too. But today he is very focused.”
Arum believes Morales’ loss, and the uncertainty about him, make the rematch even bigger than had he defeated Raheem.
“Erik was over his normal weight and out of shape,” Arum said.
“Unless he’s really motivated he won’t give a good performance. Well, he’s motivated as hell for this fight. And the Filipino fans are emboldened by Morales’ loss, and they really believe their guy will win this fight.
“I think Erik losing actually makes this a better fight. I wouldn’t have thought that standing in the ring after the fight in September, but because Erik lost and Manny won that night, a lot of people are giving Pacquiao a much better shot in this fight.”
Should Pacquiao defeat Morales to even their series 1-1, the contract does call for a third fight. But rather than tempt fate again, it calls for an immediate one this time.
IT’S JUST UNFITTING TO SAY NOW THAT HE IS ALREADY TIRED OF ALL THE FIGHTS HE HAD
January 24th, 2006 at 4:42 am
I agree. Everyone should just stop making excuses for Erik Morales. He’s old enough to make up his own. I can’t understand why it’s difficult for the so-called “experts” give Manny his rightful props for demolishing EM? Is it because of his “one-dimensionality”? Is it because he hails from the Philippines, a third-world country? Is it so difficult to accept that a brawler can upstage a “legend” like EM?
C’mon, guys, just take your humble pie and eat it.
January 24th, 2006 at 5:26 am
O my Gosh..To be honest im just a 15 year old girl and i’m so proud of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. He’s the greatest I think! It showed.. He’s the bomb! He totally rocks.. Very humble and he’s my superb crush na!! lol..Incomparable! Inimitable! The most paragon boxer/Filipino/hero! All in one..Go Pacman!! God speed!
January 24th, 2006 at 5:51 am
It was manny’s heart that helped him win! when manny lost to morales on their first fight he has a big cut due to a headbutt thats why he lost to a score of 113-115, even if he is bleeding he still made it in the 12th round unlike erik morales in their second match he only made it in the 10th round but i’m amazed by what morales showed - he still fought even if he is still dizzy but manny finished him off….
January 24th, 2006 at 7:19 am
I just want to emphasize that Pacquiao did not only beat Morales and Barrera, two of Mexico’s greatest champions of all time, on their last outings, he slaugthered them! beate them so badly they were almost unrecognizable! Moreover, Manny was the only one who had dealt them with almost career ending defeats..
So i beg to disagree about all the excuses of Morales having a hard time making the weight or having too many wars and all..please…
January 24th, 2006 at 8:00 am
in response to some of the above comments about morales’ handlers commenting on “el terrible”s preparation and pre fight condition. in the entire history of boxing i have never heard a boxer or indeed his handelers saying that there man was anything less 100% ready and in the best shape of his life! its called pre-fight hype!!!! it sells tickets. I would like to add my congratulations to manny on a truly remarkable display!!
January 24th, 2006 at 9:48 am
I thought Pacquiao is the one who is running out of time?
To Morales and Company,
Just accept the fact that Manny is better. I thought you said there are no excuses this time.
This is far worse than having a blood-covered eye or promoter problems or glove problem excuse.
In the first fight, Manny never kissed the mat twice.. not even once though he is bleeding (not caused by Morales` punch but an accidental? headbutt)
January 24th, 2006 at 1:10 pm
MANNY ‘’PACMAN THE DESTROYER'’ PACQUIAO CARRY ON
I TALK TO A LOT OF MEXICANS BEFORE THE FIGHT AND
THEIR COMMENTS WAS PACMAN GONNA WIN THE FIGHT
THESE ARE ORDINARY PEOPLE NOT THE EXPERTS WHO ARE JUST A FEW…SO DON’T LISTEN TO THOSE EXPERTS
THEY ARE LOSERS …TO THE MEXICAN FANS THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT TO PACQUIAO …VIVA MEXICO…MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS…GOD BLESS AMERICA !
January 24th, 2006 at 1:19 pm
Pacman knocked down Marquez, Barrera, and now Morales. Is it really that bitter of a pill to accept that a little Filipino won? Come on now.
January 24th, 2006 at 1:25 pm
The prediction of the experts that morales will win. I think Morales is the best for them. Its a one sided prediction. They under estimate Pacman.
.But look at their first encounter.Morales beat pacman because of the headbut.I think if not for the headbut, Morales will be suffer in the hands of pacman. And I think pacman is the only boxer put Morales,Barera,And JJM in the canvass( kissing). That is proven!!!!
And I think Pacman is the best Pound4pound boxer.
January 24th, 2006 at 1:32 pm
I must suggest to the experts that predicted Morales will win….Just widen their mind that boxing is not only for mexicans. If Mexicans can, Filipinos can. They both have two hands.
January 24th, 2006 at 3:56 pm
Manny! He is good! maybe if Morales has a good defense his face wouldn’t get hurt! I am just a 16 year old boy. i think charmaine is right. He is like a bomb ready to explode his punches! He’s like a rock, really! Pacin’ Chit!
January 24th, 2006 at 8:02 pm
Morales really can’t beat the power punch of Manny and the prayer power of his supporters. Pacquiao you are a saint!
January 24th, 2006 at 9:01 pm
Your comments about the Pacquiao victory are biased. You just can’t accept the fact that an asian coming from a third world country has ruled the boxing world right now. Morales, Barrera and Marquez have all the advantage of a hometown decision and crowd, yet Pacman beat them all in the most devastating manner.
January 24th, 2006 at 9:29 pm
the boxing world never had such explosive boxer as Pacquiao. better thank the Filipino race for producing what proved to be THE GREATEST FIGHTER OF MODERN BOXING. a bout will never be great minus the knockout/technical knockout everyone’s craving to witness. it would be simple stupidity to state lame excuses to compensate morales’ loss. who said mexico rules the boxing world? think again! the Philippines rules the boxing world!!! kudos manny!!!
January 24th, 2006 at 9:30 pm
Now the fight is finished, we have one of the greatest fights in history. We have seen how Manny demolished the so called “El Terrible” who had never been downed in all his previous fights. Manny is a pain in the *ss for Mexican boxers. I think Manny has nothing to prove, all those guys are just dreamers to beat Manny down. Better to think a hundred times before engaging Manny in the ring! But in fairness to Morales, he fought a good fight but came up short. Better accept that Manny is a better fighter than EM who learned from his mistakes. Besides of all his success, what makes him great is his humility and he never bragged about his accomplishments. CONGRATULATIONS MANNY!!! May God bless you more.
January 24th, 2006 at 10:22 pm
Give this guy (Pacquiao) his due credit..If you can still recall after Pacquiao has defeated the legendary MARCO ANTONIO BARRERA> What did experts say? That Barrera is a shot fighter, having fought a lot of hard battles and over-the-hill, THE SAME CRAP you’ve been saying after he defeated another legend in ERIK MORALES. It just shows that there’s still RACISM in this sport of BOXING. If you’re from an unknown or third world country and you’re not a caucasian you will not get any RESPECT AT ALL FROM THESE CAUCASIANS. What if PACQUIAO BEATS BARRERA AND OR MARQUEZ? I’m sure I would hear the same excuses from so-called “BOXING EXPERTS” again. “Barrera is too old for manny, etc. And Marquez is OVER THE HILL crap! Let’s open our eyes and accept the reality that A HUMBLE BROWN SKINNED FILIPINO FROM THE MALAYAN HAS DEFEATED A GREAT FIGHTER IN ERIK MORALES. Period.
January 24th, 2006 at 10:31 pm
where are the experts now? where are they hiding? cant you humbly accept the fact that manny has done a great job and he has proven that he is much better than EM? now u share EM’s excuses..cant u remember what he said before the fight? he gonna finish this thing off early for he has lots of stuff to do afterwards…he even take manny’s ability lightly..
erik is a great fighter..but our MAN beats ur man….just accept it…gudday
January 24th, 2006 at 10:34 pm
Come on don’t give me that excuses that EM were just tired, Marco Barrera had a head surgery.. they’ve got tired indeed from absorbing Pacman’s Bagoong Iron fist, Barrera, Morales and Marquez are amongst Mexico’s so called great warriors, Pacman made them all kiss the canvas - what else does Pacman need to prove - it’s all about the power. You’ve got rice? Manny I salute you.
January 24th, 2006 at 10:45 pm
saying morales lost because of his past wars with other boxers is unfair. Pacquiao also lost, Pacquiao has gotten into wars before as well but he won that particular fight, he knocked morales out. You guys should not take anything away from him by saying morales lost because he was tired, because he had too many battles. he lost because Pacquiao was the better fighter that night and not for any other reason.
January 25th, 2006 at 1:55 am
The will to win, the great stamina, an excellent fighting plan and a great boxing style has won Manny the fight over Morales. No amount of reasoning or alibis that Morales can offer since he also exhibited his great boxing style that night. Only that he was overpowered by the greatest boxer of the world today, that is, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao! Now you know who is the Boss!
January 25th, 2006 at 3:51 am
i’ve been reading all this comments about pacquiao-morales fights and as a filipino i’m so proud of manny and at the same time mad at this so called ‘experts’ in predicting that manny will lose the fight. and i agree with one of the guys who said that they are experts in alibi after they’re saying that morales lose coz of his previous hard fights. mabuhay ka manny!!
January 25th, 2006 at 5:17 am
Manny may looked like a brawler with a (seemingly) unorthodox and unsharpened technique, but that one really helped win the fight against all of them. Sour graping is a natural thing especially when we talk about egos being badly humiliated, it happens to the best of them fighters when they taste defeat, somehow it eases their hurt. Let’s spare it then for morales, the man needs to rebuild his reputation and pride which was scattered into pieces.
One thing is clear, the rematch happened because nobody was convinced of the first win.
Morales must be losing his mind if he tries Pacquiao the third time around…….
January 25th, 2006 at 11:04 am
Morales’ warrior mentality is good for the sport, but YES it can get you in a world of hurt. Mesi is healed, I’m sure, but i dunno if it is worth the risk. Having said this, it is no ones place to make decisions about Joe’s future except Joe. If he wants to risk death in the ring, so be it. I wouldn’t want anyone to bother me. Toney beats Rahman no matter how good of shape he’s in.
January 25th, 2006 at 9:57 pm
To all of you so called EXPERTS be a man and accept that you are also human and are prone to make silly predictions like what you all did before the fight. Atleast show some credibility by accepting that the better fighter won the fight fair and square, don’t make excuses for EM. If PACQUIAO lost that night I’m so sure you will all be laughing on whatever excuses he’ll tell during the post fight interview and that’s how one sided you are to a fighter who is so humble and has done nothing but give us all great fights everytime he steps into the ring. Be a man and just shut up give the credit where the credit is due. ( TEAM PACMAN ). Filipinos be PROUD for a single man can unite our whole country. I don’t know of anybody else who can do what Manny Pacquiao did for ten rounds not to EM but for a country to stop and watch Manny that is INCREDIBLE. Mabuhay ka Manny Pacquiao at MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS
January 26th, 2006 at 3:27 am
Yup I do agree. There is no excuse for EM”s devastating lost. A man down to his knees ..his “pretty face” unrecognizable..after 10 rounds!! Gosh…as far as I am concerned…PACMAN wins because he knows discipline, has a good heart and has pure talent for it…why cant u simply accept that fact….FILIPINOS..MABUHAY..ASIANS.GO!!Beat them all!!!
January 26th, 2006 at 3:43 am
” I Dont even remember feeling Pacquiao’s punches… - Erik Morales” How do you feel now Boy?
January 26th, 2006 at 5:02 am
Lets take away the title “Experts” and “Analysts” from the one sided people who made the predictions even b4 the fight began, let us understand that they are also fans of Morales cheering on his side, its enough that Pacquiao knocked Morales down twice for d 1st time in his entire boxing career, its enough that Pacquiao made such a terrible beating on “El Terrible’s” face for d 1st time and its enough that Pacquiao showed not just to all great mexican boxers but to the whole world that he is now the greatest fighter to beat in his division…… That is the truth they cannot take away!
January 26th, 2006 at 5:10 am
Pacquiao is such an amazing boxer… ‘Phenominal’ is the word for him…
I really love watching both Morales and Pacquiao in the same ring… It’s like a ticking time bomb, you’ll never know when it will explode, but one thing’s for sure, it will explode… I like both of them,,, Morales being the counter-puncher, and Pacquiao being the KNOCKOUT puncher… Well. all is said and done… Pacquiao is the better fighter… who’s next? Bring on Barrera… Coz I know ‘The Pacman’ is hungry for more… MABUHAY PHILIPPINES!!!
January 26th, 2006 at 6:14 am
No matter what they say,he is a greatest fighter of the world. No one will bit him because they are now thinking about whats happened to Morales. So,whats out!
January 26th, 2006 at 7:14 am
When manny pacquiao said after the first fight against morales that the cut above his eyes (caused by an accidental headbutt, but not a few writers clearly, and maybe intentionally, failed to mention), the Winning gloves he was forced to used, his selfish (A*****E) promoter then, and other matters distracted and affected him a lot to stay focused on the fight, you boxing experts (and many of you are actually ‘misfits’) easily dismissed those facts as not contributory to any great fighter to lose. NOW? Look how you are defending the loss of the great “el terrible” morales!!! I bet you are just trying to soothen your wounded egos. Hey guys, be humble sometimes and you will find at peace with yourselves. Now how about starting to write about this unforgettable “Battle” objectively.
By the way, was that the inept Joe Cortez refereeing the preliminary four-rounder bouts? Good for him. I hope he will not be assigned as the third man in the ring anymore when mexican boxers are involved. He cannot hide his being biased for them that he becomes their second man in the ring.

Pacquio’s fist is not that hard, the only thing that make it strong is the burden that was being placed in his FIST and that is for the honor of his countrymen, so if you have a plan to stop the pacman think of millions of filipino who rely on this man’s fist and you will see the force behind that fist….. dont under stemate the fist of a dough nut vendor…… but truly i beatted the pacman before… in chess… hehehe…. Pacman rule…
January 26th, 2006 at 8:25 pm
NOW EVERYBODY ARE WAITING FOR BARRERA & PACQUIAO REMATCH AND SEE WHAT THE EXPERTS SATISFACTION & PACMAN WILL WORK MORE HARDER FOR THIS FIGHT!
January 26th, 2006 at 9:05 pm
I cant understand the fact why the “experts” of this website dont know how to get their anaylysis right. Even Erik Morales admits to the whole world that he lost to a better fighter with no excuses, yet the so-called experts here still stick excuses for the Morales loss. I dont think your expert opinion is very reliable. Pacquiao has stronger and faster punches and has knocked down the best boxers of his class. He is simply the champ. BARERA prepare.
January 26th, 2006 at 10:10 pm
Boxing is won and lost not only inside the ring but outside the ring as well. There shouldn’t be any excuses then for the defeat of EM. He is a great boxer but he lost to a greater one. Lets leave it at that. Mabuhay ka Manny Pacquiao!
January 27th, 2006 at 12:58 am
Aaaaahhhh! excuses…. alibis…….. by Morales, his camp, the so called “sports experts”, supporters and believers. Why don’t you just admit and accept with your whole heart that the Mexican champion was beaten up cold by a humble country lad from a third world country and take note… not just one champ but two mexican champs!!
Pacquiao lost from Morales on his first match because of a wound created by a head butt from eric. He fought like a real warrior till the end with a bloodied face. He was defeated and humbly accepted it! Why don’t you guys do the same?????
January 27th, 2006 at 1:14 am
pacquiao really did it! IDOL! he is really determine to win! with all his sacrifice and hardwork really has the result of a convincing win against Erik Morales, i remeber to read aline that Morales told the press that his too good for Pacquiao….. I think Pacquiao has the right to tell that. Galing mo Pacman!!! Ipinagmamalaki ka ng Buong pilipinas…Mabuhay Ka!
January 27th, 2006 at 1:38 am
i think manny deserves to win because he carried the punch of all the filipinos unlike from morales he only used his naked hands covered by gloves…
January 27th, 2006 at 2:01 am
I believe pacquiao will knockout morales before their fight last saturday, but I don’t know how many rounds will that happen….but I believe in his power punching that some great mexican boxer have feel it and down with their two legs specially like marquez, barrera, velasquez and morales !!!….what can u say all boxing experts????…
Well,…all the boxing experts that predicted that manny will lose in fight against morales last saturday…..don’t predict again in coming big boxing fight in this year co’z nobody will believe in your prediction…..again…!!!
January 27th, 2006 at 10:18 pm

TO ALL FILIPINO BOXERS:
NEVER RELY ON POINTS TO WIN YOUR FIGHTS.
ALWAYS MAKE IT A POINT TO KNOCK YOUR OPPONENTS OUT.
THIS IS TO AVOID “HOMETOWN DECISIONS” OR MACHINATIONS AND MANIPULATIONS OF THE SO-CALLED BOXING MAFIAS–ESPECIALLY IN FIGHTS HELD IN OTHER COUNTRIES.
A KNOCK-OUT IS THE only WAY.
WITH A KNOCK-OUT, IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT COUNTRY YOU FIGHT IN OR WHO YOU FIGHT AGAINST.
WITH A KNOCK-OUT, IT DOESN’T MATTER IF THE FIGHTS IS IN MEXICO.
WITH A KNOCK-OUT, IT DOESN’T MATTER IF THE FIGHT IS BETWEEN YOU (A FILIPINO) AND A MEXICAN.
A KNOCK-OUT IS THE only WEAPON AGAINST RACISM IN THE WORLD OF BOXING!

pacquiao is really a great fighter, it’s obvious, so Erik, next time if you want to fight w/ Pacquiao again, be a man otherwise it will be a shame for you… talking to much & saying you’ll be the winner & you want him (pacquiao) to get rid of it as soon as possible b-coz you have something to do or to attend too, or going somewhere, unfotunately you go to the hospital w/ your cracked nose & bloody face, is that are you going to attend too before the fight w/ Pacquiao? no wonder….well the hospital was waiting for you.. I’m so sorry Erik, i’m TERRIBLE sorry for the result. thank’s to all the filipino who supported pacquiao…
LONG LIVE PHILIPPINES……
this site is cool..
February 1st, 2006 at 7:55 am
Come on guys, let’s face the truth, El Terrible has no strenth to fight Pacquiao anymore, if i were him (Morales), i’ll be afraid to fight Pacquiao again, b-coz not only Morales nose will break, it will be worse… Wanna bet…
February 1st, 2006 at 7:57 am
Hey EXPERT, attention, don’t give any clue next time who will win, ‘’coz you guys are good for nothing… got it? What a Shame… Yuckkky…
February 1st, 2006 at 11:53 pm
Its was a great fight! we are tied at 1-1. Erik was great in the first encounter and Manny was superb in the re-match. Hey, Manny/Erik, as a boxing fan, it was worth watching. So, whats the freak’n arguments of all this lets get on with the 3rd fight!
February 5th, 2006 at 2:13 am
It was a fight that raised flags…..
It was a fight that united nations………
It was a fight to prove who is beter……..
But I don’t think it was a fight between two colors or races(Although the so-called “experts” played a role in making such issue). Manny pacquiao won for the Philippines and showed how great they are. But i don’t think it was meant to lower the Mexicans. He won behind his countrys’ hope and pride and nothing more(off course, aside from the $2 Million). Not that Morales has lesser support from his country. He too even showed the fighter he’s made of. The match between two ntional prides made the great fight, if not the greatest fight. In the world of sports, a flag is raised higher, but never one flag is lowered.
Godspeed boxing fans……..Viva Mexico!MABUHAY TAYONG MGA PINOY!!!!!!!

I’m a big fan of boxing..I’m just 17 yrs. old,but knew a lot in boxing ‘coz i always watch boxing fights;especially when my idols are on the ring.ofcourse as a filipino,i support pacman but as a fan who really likes boxing i still salute and idolizing: Marco Barrera, Juan Marquez and Erik Morales.they are really GREAT BOXING LEGENDS and deserves to be called “CHAMPIONS.” with their tactics, style, speed, ability, stamina and great heart we should praise and respect them even they loss their fights, for me they are a unique creation of God.for Pacman, you are really great and deserves to be a champion. And with his second fight w/ Morales is enough for all of us to accept that Pacman is the better one between this two.And for Marquez who wants a rematch from Pacquiao, think it twice or trained more so that you will not put your self in shame just like you did last fight w/ pacman, you are lucky enough than EM and MB,because the decision was draw even it was so obused that pacman won that fight. And now Barrera, may be you’re NEXT?…so be prepared!! don’t worry you are still my MY IDOL and I SALUTE YOU!! also for my favorite boxers, “El Terrible” & ” DINAMITA”… more power to you and God bless!! LONG LIVE PACMAN!!! LONG LIVE BARRERA,MARQUEZ AND MORALES!!!! LONG LIVE PHILIPPINES AND MEXICO!!!!GOD BLESS US ALL!!! & MORE POWER TO BOXING SPORTs!!!! LOVE U OL!!!! GOD BLESS…=) i hope i’ll become a boxer someday just like my idols. =’c ……VIVA BOXING!!!

i dont see anything wrong with the prediction. Prediction means something foretold or predicted. it can be right or wrong. with regards to the fight of pacman and el terible. i think pacman is lucky enough and deserving what he got after all the hardship he been through. and to erik, better lucks next time. they would learn how to be sportmanship. they both got the balls. we should stop arguing about them, lets injoy the fight. This is not the fight between the two countries, mexico and philippines after all we are all one. Good luck the two of you guys….
February 22nd, 2006 at 4:29 pm
Eso era una buena lucha..Good job both of the fighters. Its just that, Morales couldnt handle the “killer left” of Pacquiao..Eric should ask for a rematch so that Manny could rearrange his face back to normal..lol..Yup Much respect to all mexicans and mexican fighters pero Fawk Somos los mejores..we now run this show..Mabuhay Pilipinas, walang papantay
“Please dont take our hospitality as a sign of weakness….push us enough and we will gut you like a pig” “Filipinos”

Some experts have their gamut of excuses when the outcome of a certain, should we say, “hyped” fight is different. Well, its their problem and not us lovers of the sport to garble upon. What makes boxing as a great sport is that nothing’s conclusive after the start and the end of 12 rounds. The story enters a new chapter…a capsule of dynamism I should say..
The Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao rematch was one of the most exciting fights in boxing history. It features two of the greatest torchbearers of the sport. Two undeniably proud warriors so to speak. Manny Pacquiao won convincingly by putting “El TErrible” in the canvas during the 10th round. During the pre-fight conferences, Erik was, as usual, in his “cocky” form, commenting and underestimating Pacquiao’s abilities as a boxer while Manny was also in his usual “humble” form, as if stating ” I’ll just let my fists do the talking..” Such an atmosphere makes the upcoming fight more exciting. Well after 10 great rounds, I think we all knew who gained the upperhand.
I think the implications of this triumph for Manny Pacquiao is more geared toward the mental facet of boxing in its entirety. The “Pac Man” was always honest about his lapses and humble about his strengths. Of course, it’s normal to have a particular reason or an excuse if you crumble in a certain fight, Manny is no exception for this. When he fought Juan Manuel Marquez to a draw, lost to ERik Morales and even to his earlier professional fights with Rustico torrecampo and 3k Battery, he had his arsenal of post-fight convictions pertaining to thin socks, swollen/injured hand, a huge cut etc…(Those were all facts indeed..)but the good thing is Manny would always acknowledge and congratulate the winner at the end and promise to come back and learn from his mistakes. And usually, he kepts his promises…. I think this is why the “Pac man” is loved by so many people, not just Filipinos.
Manny is a very religious person. He may be a demon in the ring but he always prays not only for himself but also for his opponent. (I suppose Morales also..) He respects the dignity of every boxer, be it Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barerra, Juan Manuel Marquez, Hector Velasquez etc…
Of course, boxing is mainly a sport but a tinge of personal grudges and clashes I suppose, makes the sport an effective marketable commodity.
As for El Terrible, he kepts insulting his opponents. Take for instance, Marco Antonio Barrera who in fact is his countrymate. I think Morales could have been more respected and loved by people if he learns to repect the dignity of a certain boxer. Cmon, man! be it for the purpose of promotion or publicity, the guy has been underestimating Manny’s abilities once again in his recent interview.
Remember Erik, Manny put you on the canvas..hasn’t he? Have you ever put Manny into the canvas in your first fight when everything seems to go your way?
As for some of the experts and Morales himself, who has all the “cockiness” in the boxing world, I think you better learn to accept your mistakes and be honest of yourselves. After that great fight, the conclusion is Pacquiao won and Morales lost, no more no less. And if Erik keeps saying he could easily beat Manny in their next fight, then prove it!
As far as we know….only Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao are aware their real capabilities..because their are the ones who will be putting their lives at stake in the ring!
I guess I’m just a man who truly loves the sport and hates all the political bullshit accompanying it!

Forget Pacquioa vs. Morales. How about Pac Man vs Rocky Juarez? Both are powerpunchers in their prime. I’ll guarantee a knockout. I couldn’t care less that Juarez fell short in his fight against Barrera. A great fight is a great fight.
June 11th, 2006 at 4:34 am
the pacman lost against morales. save all your excuses. a loss is a loss. too bad for him. but he devastated barrera, dropped marquez 3 times for a draw, and handed morales his worst defeat in their rematch with morales’s first knockout defeat. save all their excuses. let me see any of these guys knock out pacquiao. all three mexican boxers are no doubt great fighters. but pacquiao has proven to the world that he is better than all of them. let’s go pacman.

This writer or whoever he pretends to be just ate his words bad. There is a saying which applies to most areas on life.
“Great men see greatness, fools see fool’s gold”.
This writer is ignorant enough to make excuses when his fighter lost but the bottomline is, he just made a rascist analysis because he can’t admit that PACQUIAO is just too damn good.
Anyway, his analysis doesn’t mean anything and his words lack wisdom. So let’s not take his analysis seriously. Just bet on the opposite.

Morales will never win against manny, Pacman worked hard on his training so what good will morales’ training will do…It’s not that i’m bragging about manny it’s just that morales has all of our filipino’s spirit within him. And God is by his side…Manny is a good prayer and his faith will bring him to the top. LONG LIVE THE PHILIPPINES, LONG LIVE MANNY!!!!!
