Lamon Brewster is the most exciting of our four heavyweight champions. Is it due to his power or the fact that none of his fights are sure things?
Sergei Liakhovich is Balboaesque. He’s got the heart of a lion, he’s tough, and he’s well… unknown. On top of that he has nothing to lose and everything to gain, which makes him a very dangerous opponent.
Brewster needs to come out fast and furious, and gain Lyakhovich’s respect. The young Belarussian (he’s 29, a baby by today’s standards) is tough, confident and a better boxer than the WBO titlist.
Brewster + Buddy McGirt does indeed spell trouble for Sergei Lyakhovich.
Lamon Brewster took time from his busy schedule preparing for the defense of his WBO title against Sergei Liakhovich at Cleveland’s Old School Boxing Club to fondly recall former heavyweight contender and proud son of Akron Michael Dokes.
I haven’t seen much of Sergei Lyakhovich in a while, which is merely a fact of him not fighting recently. It has been almost 1.5 years since he fought, and beating on Dominick Guinn is nothing impressive.
Former heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko’s career in Ukrainian politics might be over before it got started. His bold challenge for the mayoralty of Kiev, with no prior political experience, has been, according to early election results, a resounding dud.
For those who hoped Ricky Hatton would fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., hold onto that hope for a little while longer, because it appears Ricky will fight New York southpaw Luis Collazo for the WBA welterweight title in Boston May 13.
