Mitch Abramson: Zab is a wildcard
By Uncategorized April 6th, 2006Mitch Abramson says Mayweather will be razor-sharp
As much as I would like to see Zab Judah win, if for no other reason than because he is from New York, I have trouble seeing Floyd losing. He’s simply too quick, too smart and too game to let Zab beat him. The only scenario that I could Zab winning is one in which Floyd steps to Zab like he did against Sharmba Mitchell in search of a quick knockout and Zab, who can crack, catching him. But I don’t see that happening. I don’t see Floyd giving Zab any kind of openings. Floyd not only wants to beat Zab, he wants to embarrass him, and he’ll be razor-sharp, in top shape, while Zab, who everyone says always steps up in big fights, except when he fought Kostya Tszyu, is a wildcard. He has behaved erratically in the run-up for this fight, not participating in the promotion and who knows where his head is at. So all things considered, I like Floyd Mayeather Jr. by late stoppage, maybe by the tenth round.

As we all know Floyd is brilliant-speed, skill, and power. Not to mention the fact that he a pro’s pro. He is always prepared, always in shape, and always ready for war.
Now look at Judah. He and Floyd are physically very similar. Both are technically proficient, have speed, and an enormous amount of raw athletic ability. They both had very distinguished amateur careers. The only physicall difference is the fact that Judah is naturally bigger and stronger, having more power. Their differences are not physical but mental. Judah is not always prepared and does not posses that professional discipline that is trademark Mayweather. That will give Floyd a huge advatnage.
Unless Judah can use his power to hurt or keep Floyd off of him, then Floyd should take him with his discplined attack and slick defense.

I watched the replay of Floyd/Corrales and realized that the advantage that Mayweather brought into the ring that night was a game plan. His fight with Zab will be no different. Pretty Boy always sticks to his game plan, which I can’t always say for Zab. Zab could have beaten many a fighter, including Kosta, if he would have sticked with his game plan. Everyone is talking about the power that Zab brings into the ring, but if you’re planning on winning by power, like he tried to do with Kosta, and you don’t have a game plan when you hit the canvas, power will mean nothing. Mayweather listens to his corner, and wins. Zab can be thick headed and not listen to his corner and go head hunting. If he thinks that head hunting is the way to beat Mayweather, then don’t expect an upset. Mayweather by late stoppage.
