Hatton Wants Corrales/Castillo Winner

By Uncategorized April 24th, 2006

What does Ricky Hatton want?

Some eyebrows were raised when boxing’s newest rock star, Brit welterweight Ricky Hatton, prepared to invade America with an eye on our biggest targets, and then settled on relative unknown Luis Collazo as his first conquest.

Luis Who-llazo?

We kid. No offense, Luis.

In fact, the Queens-based Collazo (26-1, 12 KOs) is a capable southpaw who may just have the style to pull off the upset of the year on May 13 in Boston.

But with marquee names like Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto looking for marketable names to generate fat purses, it seemed curious that Hatton settled on Collazo.

Supposing the busy Brit, age 27, gets past the obscure welterweight, will he next go after one of those name fighters and give us a mouthwatering scrap that we hanker for?

Hatton (40-0, 30 KOs) shared his blueprint for his post-Collazo track with The Independent’s Steve Bunce.

“When I beat Luis I will fly out to America on June 3 to watch Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo in their third fight, Hatton said. “I want the winner. I also want – and sooner rather than later – Floyd Mayweather.

i will believe it when it happens, hatton is a fraud.castillo ko hatton within 8 rounds.hatton versus diego,GREAT fight!chico has a probelm with LEFT hooks.

Im assuming you must be an american and have not seen particularly much of hatton. He is no fraud.

Admittedly, age had a factor in him overcoming tzyu.

Hatton, in my eyes, will defeat castillo and would definately stop corrales. His boxing ability is underated as he is often drawn into a fight.

You know that old saying “be careful what you wish for”? Well that saying rings true right here. I think Hatton is a very good fighter and not a fraud however; he will not beat Mayweather or Margarito or Castillo. Cotto would be a good fight for him as I feel that Cotto’s chin would be put to the test. As for Castillo and Corrales. Castillo would walk and break him down. He is much too skilled for the Hit man. Corrales would be stupid enough (as he was in his first two fights with Castillo) to brawl with him. That would be an entertaining fight but not a smart one for Corrales. Hatton seems to be very good against fights that come to him and are willing to fight in the middle of the ring. He will not do as well against smart fighters who can box and brawl and pick there spots to do so, i.e. Mayweather, Castillo, and Margarito (maybe not as much as the other two).

Ricky Hatton continues to be way too underrated,, the only man out there that can give him a fight for his money is Floyd Mayweather,, even then Hatton would win.
When Floyd stops pricing himself out of a fight and decides to stop running then all doubters will see the true best pound for pound fighter on the planet,,HATTON. AS for Castillo or Corales,,,neither can live with Hatton,,,durable may be, but his constant pressure and work rate would prove too much and neither would go the distance. Cotto,,,hahaha,,,,the mans too lazy,,looks good and can turn it on when he wants but he couldnt keep up,Hatton would blow him away.Unfortunatly Hattons gonna probably end up fighting all these before he gets a shot at Mayweather it looks likee the mans trying to make as much money as possible before Hatton takes his crown,,,with a bit of luck every present doubter might take notice.
Rightly so Frank Warren being aggrieved with the split,,,whether problems were about money or not Frank knows a good fighter,he knows Hatton can win it and he’d have had the fight set up quicker than any other Brit promoter.

Hatton would, wait will beat any welterweight of the modern day. Hattons only downfall is his cuts apart from that he wont be beat in his prime. He hits hard and throws a lot of punches and his boxing skills are underated but in reality they rank in the top 3 in the world. And his workrate and determination would allow him to outwork any welter in the world. He is the king of the modern day boxers.

im tired of corrales being disrespected, he is a much better fighter than costillo or hatton. the man has only been knocked out once in his carreer, he has more heart than any other fighter out there today, everyone keeps raving about costillo but chico beat him the first time and took a fight that he shouldnt have the second time and for the bleeding hearts who point to corrales spitting out his mouth piece i want you to point to the 7th round when costillo was out on his feet and saved by the bell…chico would kill hatton!

As for the Hatton disbeleivers, Ricky the “Hitman” bounced Costillo around and added another world title belt to his name when beating him. Oh well I guess Hatton is a little better then you thought. Corrales was a great fighter and was I shocked when I heard he had died. He had a few good fights left in him. Hatton and Corrales would have been a great match-up. I would put my money on Hatton though! Because Chico is easy to hit, Hatton would just wear him down and probably knocked him out in a late round. It’s Hattons time to reign and he has proved himself 43 times since the Costillo victory. Their talking seriously about Hatton and Maywheather fight. If Maywhether weighs in at the 140lb class I’ll go with Hatton. If they fight at the 147lb class Mayweather may have the advantage. Of course they will never fight above the Welter weight divsion. Hatton and Mayweather will definitely be a great fight. Mayweather will be forced to fight and take some good shots like his bout with De La Hoya! No one is going to beat Hatton in the 140lb Class for the next few years if he stays the course. Maywheather will no doubt end up avoiding the likes of Hatton due to the great risk of chalking up his first loss. Mayweather is exemely selective and actually made a giant mistake in thinking that De La Hoya was a spent fighter. That fight could have gone either way! Hatton will fight anyone and he will no doubt as a 140lber, beat them all. Mayweather fears Hatton at the 140lb division and will by all means avoid him at that weight class.

Don’t feel bad Mayweather, Cotto also fears Hatton. That is why he skipped up to your weightclass. He thought he may have better chance with you! At least a better pay-day!
