Roy Jones Jr. To Fight The Prince

By Uncategorized April 25th, 2006

Onetime King to box Prince

He’s lost his last three fights, but Roy Jones Jr. , exhibiting the stubbornness that helped make him a living legend, is determined to keep plugging away.

The Hall of Fame talent will take on light heavyweight Prince Badi Ajamu on July 29, at a site to be announced. The word that the 37-year-old Jones Jr. (49-4, 38 KOs) will not transition into the broadcast or promotional sphere of the sport comes from Silverhawk Boxing, Ajamu’s promotional outfit.

Ajamu, 34, is trained by Buddy McGirt, and sports a record of 25-2-1 (14 KOs). The Prince, rated No. 5 by the WBC, has won his last six fights. He’s New Jersey-born, lives in Florida and learned the craft in Philly gyms.

  2. Daniel "THE TRUTH" Telley Says:

There comes a time when you should just say I’m done and that time came about four years ago for Roy. If you look at some of Roy’s fights back then you will agree, he just started getting hit too much. I would also like to say that I love Roy but the truth is the truth and his time has been up. Roy if you read this don’t get upset because it’s true you were never a great boxer but were an exceptional athlete. And we all know what happens when exceptional athlete’s like yourself looses those attribute like speed, agility and quickness it’s plane and simple they loose. If Roy would have fought Tarver about four or five years ago he would have knocked Tarvers non-boxing ass out and Johnson would have gotten his ass whooped aswell. But an old Roy is not the old Roy or (RJ). I would like to close by saying it’s been great and you have been a great champion but again your time is up and you will loose your next fight by KO.

PS: Hopkins by UD over Tarver and Mayorga by KO over Oscar, remember where you heard it first!

  3. Neil da'realdeal Says:

Rog, you hit the nail on the head, need I say more?

  4. "Sexy" Dan Slezsak Says:

I don’t know what everyone is talking about!! Roy knowz exactly what he’s doing. He is in fantastic shape and he will knockout the prince in 6rds. I agree that he is not the same Roy he once was but he is still an amazig boxer with the skillls to make a comeback and be the light heaveyweight champion again. I am getting sick and tired of everyone saying that Roy Jones sucks, why because he lost 3 fights outta how many 53.. now that is amazing.. And everyone are you not forgettign he was the last man who beat James Lights Out Tony, and was the last man to beat Hopkins until just recently. And just because he has lost his last three, you wouldn’t say ali sucked and he lost more than three… Eceryone says Ali is the greatest… Anyway Roy you are the superman and I know he is coming back nd he is gonna tear it up.. Y’all MUSTA FORGOT!!!
Oscar over mayorga in 10, Hopkins UD over Tarver,

  5. Niel Bennett Says:

I’ve never enjoyed watching boxing till the first time I saw Roy Jones box. The guy is just magic, and will always be the greatest boxer that ever lived in my book. What I would give to have Roy win on the 29th of July. I trust that he can do it, he just needs to belive like his done all these years and forget everyones negativity second guessing his greatness

  6. Ed Ziemelis Says:

The Truth Telley is wrong. Jones stops Prince. Delahoya by decison what else? Tarver too big and strong for Hopkins by kayo. Truth Telley becomes
    the Liar!

  7. J-Boy Says:

RJJ will be successful come July 29th! I’m from P’cola and we will always support Roy. But, it doesn’t matter if I were from Amsterdam, Roy is still a bad-a## fighter and is on his way to a magnificent comeback! This is just a warm-up fight. Also, Hopkins defeats Tarver by TKO in the 8th!

  8. Bobby D Says:

Reality folks - Reality states that Roy Jones Jr “yesterday” is at the end of his rope. All you have to do is look at the Glen Johnson knockout. 5 years ago would Roy Jones Jr lost to Tarver or Johnson? Father time has caught up to Roy. Real Champions “ALWAYS” go out on there backs. Roy showed us his heart when he toughed it out standing in the last Tarver fight. If Roy’s head wasn’t so cloudy from getting his wig stretched back in his KO losses to Tarver & Johnson. I would say this would be a good fight for you but I cant. Once you’ve had your cap peeled like Roy has especially in the Glen Johnson fight. There should be a guardian Angel that should tap you on the shoulder and say: “Hey Dog Dont You Think It’s Time To Do Something Else”? Like maybe link up with a De La Hoya or a Jordan and fight promote. Anything besides bringing your self one step closer to ending up like a punch drunk has been fighter. Who cant even get a commentator job because his faculties are shot from getting knocked the *bleep* out one to many times. The Glen Johnson knockout was the “Hello Roy Wake Up Call”. I admired Roy for even getting in the ring with Tarver again. Though I thought Roy could of beat Tarver. The chin just cant and never could take a real solid good punch. Roy has already peeked his zenith as a Hall of Fame fighter. There’s nothing else to prove and why he fights still makes no sense “what so ever”. The Prince over Jones by KO - Please Roy “It’s Time To Hang’em Up Bra” - You’ve had your time - Enjoy retirement - produce music acts - team up with De La Hoya or Jordan and promote fights - bring up a protege - your talented - anything but fight again!! I’m a big fan of yours and hate to see you get beat again!!! Your the great Roy Jones Jr. Be proud that you went out like true champions of past - ON YOUR BACK!!

  9. RONEY(I JUST LOVE BOXING) Says:

i’m so tired of the term GREAT being associated with Rjj.What defines a “great fighter” are defining fights, seeking the best opposition out there. Why did jones have to keep his number 1 p4p ranking for 10 years without fighting no one. Winning vacated titles, and honoring your mandatories duties by fighting journeymen do not define entry in the hall of fame, but thats what Jones did all his career. How many elite fighters did he meet or beat.Hopkins? who was a shadow of what he became years later, or was it toney who was struggling to make weight at the time. Both hop and lights out screamed out for years to get a rematch with jones, all attempts failed because of jones ridiculous contract stipulations.Real champs seek to fiGHT the BEST, thats their nature.Trinidad did it, oscar did it, even mosley who got the worst ends in these elite match ups did it, i will always Respect what they brought to our sport. i will always respect that from these real pugilists. So dont talk to me about roy being great, ali is great, arguello is great, Duran is great, Pernell is great…Jones is an athlete who learned how to box,and always looked to find the easiest ways to win by choosing his opponents, WHAT PRIVILIEGE HE HAD! but he’s no FIGHTER,believe that.

  10. richarelithefactor Says:

  12. Derrick(The reeldeel) Says:

  14. Taylor brown Says:

Ayy man ya’ll need to check the record books. Who won and held the most CHAMPIONSHIP belts at a time. Ohh and by the way if u guys knew anything, instead of Emmanuel Steward being his corner man it should have been is father because he made him what he is and helped him accomplish everything he’s done in these years.

And dont try to be arguing with me either because i know him personally.
