Petersons Are In Tough On ShoBox

By Michael Woods April 27th, 2006

Peterson Bros. hit ShoBox Friday night

No soft touches for the Peterson Brothers on Friday’s ShoBox card from North Dakota (11 PM Eastern).

Lamont Peterson, who is 14 months older than Anthony, will take on southpaw Mario Jose Ramos (16-2-1, 3 KOs) of Phoenix, Ariz., in a 10-round junior welterweight bout. Ramos won 11 consecutive bouts before dropping a 12-round decision on March 3, 2006, to Demetrius Hopkins. He holds a November 28, 2005 win over Cosme Rivera, a solid vet who was looking to get back on track after losing to Zab Judah.

Lamont Peterson is 22 and holds a 16-0 record (7 KOs).

Anthony Peterson is also 16-0, with 12 kayos. He faces off with 13-0 (6 KOs) Jermaine White, a 24-year old from Indiana in a junior welter battle scheduled for eight rounds. White has not fought the level of competition that Ramos has, so that may give viewers an idea of where the Peterson’s handlers feel their talent is situated on the development ladder. Both are managed by Shelly Finkel, so that should tell you something about their future potential.

The Peterson’s backstory, and their tenacious battle to rise up from a broken home and severe poverty, makes them easy to root for. Can their skill set and growth match or surpass the compelling aspects of their upbringing?

Anthony Peterson is the real deal. The kid is as quick as they came and each one has a purpose. I shot the Peterson/White fight from New Town for The Minot Daily News and I have nothing but good things to say about him. I don’t know a lot about White, but he had a decent record. He will have a decent amount of bruises after the constant left hands that bounced off his face. A.P. is one to watch.
ShoBox was great, by the way. Nothing but class all the way. Tom has some great photos on this site, and I am looking forward to what he shot Friday.
