Ricky Hatton didn’t look overly impressive “beating” Luis Collazo in Boston last weekend, but since the judges deemed him the victor, the Manchester Mite has ample options open to him.
“I’m a natural light welterweight and nothing has changed,” the 27-year-old boxer told the BBC. “If a big fight is offered at light welterweight, I’ll come back down – but I showed that I can do it at welter.”
What about doing the right thing, the fair thing, and giving Collazo an opportunity to regain his WBA title?
“I’m not saying I won’t fight Collazo again but, to be honest, I fought Collazo and I beat him,” Hatton (41-0) replied.
“If the opinion is that there are better fighters at welterweight, then I’ll stay there and if the better fighters are at light welterweight, then I’ll move back down.
“I’d much rather fight the winner of Gatti-Baldomir or Mayweather, or go back down to light welter and fight Cotto or Corrales and Castillo.”
To be honest, as Hatton puts it, he should do the right thing, and prove conclusively that he’s the better man by giving Collazo another crack. But it’s money that matters, 99.9% of the time, and the mean green will speak louder than decency in this case, in all likelihood. But we’d love to be proved wrong, and dismissed as cynical cranks…

Hatton is scared. That kid deserves a rematch and hatton said he would give it. I thought hatton was a gentleman and a man of his word.I guess not.

i he is giong to stay at welter and keep the wba he would have to give oktay urkal the first shot as mandated and then fight the winner of julio/quintana so if he did give him a rematch it would be non title and that wouldnt be worth it for either fighter

Forget pride, man of his word or honesty. Money his all there is in boxing today. Ricky is definetly not ready for the big welterweight guns: De La hoya, Trinidad, Mosley, Vargas. Those guys bring big money but they are to strong for Hatton. For the Hitman, the money and the fight that everybody would want to see, his him against a warrior by the name of Arturo Gatti, who could easely make jr welter. There would be millions of $$$ for both fighters et Ricky Hatton would have a very good chance to win a war that could be the fight of the year.

I think Hatton has a shot at Mayweather right now. Callazo is a better boxer than people have given him credit for. He beat the amazing Rivera who made Terra Garcia look like an amatuer. That deserves some recognition. Hatton was moving up in weight and fighting the champ in his 1st fight up. Simply put Hatton would KO Gatti , Cotto , Corrales , decision Castillo and Baldomir. Mayweather and Hatton is the fight to see. We dont know who is unstoppable yet, since they both have undefeated records against creditable opponents. It would be a blessing for us boxing fans to see and be a part of. I would like them to meet before one losses the -0- on the middle of their records. Thnx.

this a reply to the person who said Mayweather is a better match up for hatton. ha ha ha h ah ha!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time. Hatton should have lost to a fighter with no POWER , Mayweather has power because of the speed he has. hit hits you so fast that it brings power behind it. MaYWEATHER is by far the best boxer out there. Not fighter but boxer. His defense is sooo underrated. No one can hit him, no one. Not even the utlra fast judah. Hatton would be retearded to fight mayweather. If they fight it would be just like Gatti-mayweater. Hatton will get destroyed and sent baCK to the UK. i LIKE HATTON BUT fighting mayweather is career ending. he will send him back to England with hurt feelings and an ass whooping, bottom line. You are witnessing greatness in PBF, a once in a lifetime fighter. The higher the stakes the better he is. A better match is PBF against DLH. Hatton is a few yeaRS away.

Collazo’s begging for a rematch makes me queasy!! ok it was a close fight but Hatton made the fight, threw the most punches, landed the most and put the guy down in the first round as well as winning a unanimous decision. Not only that but Collazo gave all he had and Hatton took it all and stayed on his feet…like Hatton said he fought Colllazo and beat him. Collazo won the belt himself in a much closer fight on a split decision after having to haul himself up off the canvas….but I didnt see him offering to give the other guy a rematch then….Collazo says he would knock Hatton out in the rematch HELLO!!! if he ever could knock Hatton out the time to do it was in the fight and he didnt in fact he was never close…Hatton takes a lot of shots as an occupational risk as he charges forward to get inside….his legs never looked shaky at any point in the fight…Collazo says Hatton should drop a weight….doesnt say much for Collazo does it…cant the guy understand HE LOST THE FIGHT!!!!! against a smaller shorter guy who lets you punch him in his face as much as you want….say what you want about Hatton but he is undefeated and fearless, will fight absolutely anybody and whatever his opponent brings he will bring more…..he didnt look good against Collazo because it was his first fight at a weight above his natural weight against a bigger, young, hungry tricky southpaw champion…..but just because he didnt win every round and showboat all the way to the title doesnt mean he’s no good and deserves all the criticism…when Mayweather and Gatti moved up neither of them fought proper welterweights and in my opinion both of these fighters will fall to Hatton should they meet…its much easier to criticize Hattons style than to face it in the ring!! as Collazo, Tszyu, Maussa, Phillips, Tackie, Oliveira, Stewart and many others have all found out…

He “MIGHT” have a chance against Castillo or Corrales and I say this “ONLY” because the boy has heart! But to even think for a second that he can get in the ring with the likes of Gatti,Baldomir,Cotto,De La Hoya,Margaritto,Mosley, and OH HELL 2 THE NO definately not “THE MAN - “Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather”!!!. Hatton won the fight clearly. Collazo could have been considered a bonified MIDDLEWEIGHT coming into his fight with Hatton also. I take nothing away from Collazo who was a certified champion, but he loss fair and square. Unlike Mayweather, Hatton chooses to fight real champions when he moves up in weight, so you can’t anything away from Hatton either. Hatton would defeat Mayweather (in my opinion), and anybody else that steps into the ring with him. Congradulations to Hatton and keep up the good work.

I agree on the face of it Mayweather Jr Looks Un-Beatable, but Hatton is Un-Beaten.

There is something magical between 140 and 147 that does not seem to exist between other weight classes. Hatton like many other fighters chasing big paydays try to move up from there comfort level and fight guys that are naturally too big for them. A prime example of this is Shane Mosely. Even the greatest boxer of this era Floyd Mayweather was unable to KO glass jaw Zab Judah. Hatton needs to stay at 140. And hope that his wish of fighting Floyd doesn’t actually happen until after a few more large paydays or it will be a rap for his so far unblemished career. the top 147 pou`

Hatton stepped up and beat a genuine welter in collazo. He won a tough fight against a good (& bigger) fighter, usually fighters get praise for that kind of result but I guess that doesn’t apply to uk boxers?
Floyd should stop d!cking around at welter like he did at jr, step up and fight a real welter not just ex-140 guys.

Hatton has to be the most overrated fighter out there. Take away the flash knock down in the 1st round and the fight was Collazo’s. How anybody can think for a second he would stand a chance against Mayweather is beyond me. I may give him a chance against Castillo or Coralles moving up to to 140(a small chance at that). I don’t see him beating any of the top Welterweights. Margarito, Gatti, Mosley, Judah would all fuck him up. Hopefully the next fight will be with Cotto in which Cotto will TKO Hatton in under 9 rounds.
