Juan Manuel Marquez To Get Title Shot
By Uncategorized May 22nd, 2006Marquez gets another chance to win crown
After coming out on the losing end of a controversial decision back in March against WBA Featherweight Champion Chris John, Juan Manuel Marquez now gets another shot at a title, this time the WBO version. Marquez and Thailand’s Terdsak Jandaeng are slated to face one another for the WBO’s Interim Featherweight Title. The date and location have yet to be disclosed. Current champion Scott Harrison is sidelined by problems with alcohol and depression and the WBO is giving him as much time as he needs to get his life back in order.

Just curious. When is the bout between Marquez and Jandeang scheduled to take place?
The reason why I ask is because I heard that Jandeang was scheduled to face Daniel Attah in an elimination bout on June 10 on the Hopkins-Tarver undercard. Has that bout been scrapped in favor of the interim bout?
Thanks.

I’m not sure to tell you the truth. From what I was told, the date and location have yet to be set. Certainly Marquez is far more deserving than Attah however perhaps there is a stipulation the winner will fight Marquez. I’ll see if I can get some more info Wednesday when I sshould see those who informed me of the fight.

i dont really see the point of this bout for marquez if he wins he would probably have to go the the uk to fight scott harrison in the fall or early next year he could be in the same position he was in with chris john fighting a tough opponent in his backyard he would be better of fight humberto soto for the wbc interim and staying in the us

I’m not sure Nacho and Jaime always think logically and for some reason I believe they feel just getting a title puts them in a position of control. I also think they feel that Marquez is good enough to beat anyone, anytime and perhaps this is what contributes to their logic - who really knows? Like I said, on Wednesday I’ll speak with some of my contacts and see if I can find out more.

It’s the WBC title, not the WBO - I was originally told WBO.

Actually - it is the WBO - back and forth. As of this moment it’s for the WBO interim title. I guess nobody’s giving Attah much of a chance.

Titles do give you leverage, however you sacrifice certain things (Money ie $700k from a $1mil asking price) and fight the best to gain cred in the court of public opinion. Then the money and fame will come. Look at the paths that Manny and JMM have taken in the last couple of years. Manny fought the best and is being rewarded by the support of his country and boxing fans. He now commands purses of a few million everytime he fights. Marquez should get rid of Groucho and fight someone with a name.

Very very lucky fighter to have a title shot,a boxer who ignoring the fight because of prize can’t deserve atotle shot.

I for one think that the move to not have the rematch with Pacquiao was dumb. Their first (and hopefully not only) fight saw Juan Manuel scrape himself up off the canvas to fight the style of fight that, if Marcos Antonio Barrera would do it in his anticipated rematch with the Pac Man, would have possibly given him the edge in the fight for at least a draw, at most a split decision. He got the draw, but also the much needed exposure and respect, at least from the fans who saw the fight. Now, due to bad business decisions, he’s probably hurt his chances from making a marquee PPV fight. He’ll now have to settle for an HBO live date with the Pac Man, who doesn’t seem too interested to fight anyone but Erik Morales (in their up-coming rubber match) and Barrera (probably by the end of the year, if the Pac Man can beat Morales again).
