Hitman Hatton eyeballs Castillo-Corrales

It’s looking like Ricky Hatton is angling for the winner of the June 4 Jose Luis Castillo/Diego Corrales bout in Las Vegas.

And his co-promoter Dennis Hobson has hit back at promoter Bob Arum’s description of Hatton as “a relatively ordinary fighter.”

“Ricky and I will be ringside for that fight and we think we can do business with the winner,” Hobson said. “Ricky versus Castillo or Corrales would be the fight of the year, any year.”

Also, Hobson hit back at Bob Arum, who dissed Hatton spectacularly on a Tuesday conference call. Hobson questioned Cotto’s credentials and drawing power.

“Let’s be realistic,” he said. “Castillo – or Corrales if he wins – versus Ricky is a bigger fight than Castillo or Corrales versus Cotto.”

“With the greatest respect to Cotto, he isn’t in Ricky’s league in terms of international recognition.

“Ricky is a three-time, two division world champion, a Ring magazine champion and the winner of every Fighter of the Year Award going.

“But Cotto is yet to win a genuine world belt. He’s still in the kiddie pool with waterwings on. He’s at WBO title level and is struggling to keep hold of that.

“Arum can’t possibly be serious when he says that Ricky has anything to fear from Cotto.”

Lets hope Castillo wins his next fight, otherwise…….. A Marathon slugfest RH Vs Corrales would be messy….. Very Messy !

I see Ricky pummeling JLC, Castillo is an excellent fighter but….hmm Ricky is a bad style for him, Both charging forward…….head2head only one winner. Stout Head Hatton.

Should be a awesome fight JLC vs DC III.

Who Y’all got dollar$ on for Tarver / Hopkins ??

This is a smart move for Ricky Hatton. He is better off at 140. Althought i don’t understand one thing… after his see-saw battle with Callazo, Ricky came up with the excuse that he’s a natural 140 pounder, not 147. Yet he claims that before a fight he walks around at 175 lbs?? So how can he possible be a natural 140 pounder? Bottom line was that Ricky was exposed, but it doesn’t mean that he is not a great fighter. He needs to stay at 140 or grow into 147. Taking Corrales or Castillo looks coreagous ubt in reality they’re both getting old and this will most likely be a third brutal war on June 3rd. How much more do they possbly have left? Hatton is great but is nowhere near keeping up with Mayweather.

And as for me personally, I will be throwing down the money for Cotto to get a first class boxing lesson on June 10th rather than see a chess match between a 37 year old and a 41 year old. No offense to either competitor, they are both still great fighters, but the clash of styles in this bout makes for a very boring night.

  6. MINGO Says:

CASTILLO WILL KO HATTON I’LL BET MY FIRST BORN

  7. Hawk Oleme Says:

    Hell yeah MINGO!

I’m not saying that Hatton is a bad fighter and I he deserved to be called fighter of the feart 2005 but I think he’s overrated. He ain’t no pound4pounder and we all know that.

This Is What Boxing Pundit Ben Cohen Figures -

Should the Hit Man move down to 140lbs, or stay at 147 and fight bigger names? What are his chances of winning against some of the big names, and how exciting will the fights be?

    Floyd Mayweather-147

Mayweather has the advantage here, as Hatton looks far too slow at Welterweight. Mayweather would be far too fast for Hatton, and would take a comfortable decision.

    Excitement Factor: 6/10
    Chance of winning: 30%

    Floyd Mayweather 140

The odds should narrow considerably, as Hatton is a monster at this weight. He is fast and very strong at this weight, and should be able to give Mayweather the toughest fight of his career.

    Excitement Factor: 7/10
    Chance of winning: 45%

    Miguel Cotto- 140

A great, great match up of styles. The patient stalker versus the relentless aggressor would make for a very entertaining, action packed fight. Hatton probably has the edge here due to his phenomenal pace and Cotto’s shaky whiskers.

    Excitement Factor: 9/10
    Chance of winning: 60%

    Jose Luis Castillo

Another mouth watering match-up. Castillo is an absolute monster at 135, and had fought at 140 several times before (and even all the way up to 150lbs). It would be a fight in a phone booth for the entire bout, with both fighters dissecting each other’s midsections. Neither man would have the advantage up close, as Castillo’s craftiness would make up for Hatton’s volume. However, Hatton is still that little bit bigger, and he will find Castillo’s chin more frequently than Diego Corrales.

    Chance of winning: 55%
    Excitement Factor: 10/10

    Diego Corrales- 140

Another huge Lightweight who would retain his punch power at 140. However, if Hatton could walk through Tszyu’s bombs, then he won’t have a problem with Chico’s. Corrales long torso would provide Hatton with a huge target, and the Hitman would hit it all night.

    Chance of winning: 70%
    Excitement Factor: 9/10

    Luis Collazo, rematch at 147.

This would be a fight where whoever could make the adjustment wins. Hatton is an intelligent boxer, but he is not a reflexive fighter like Collazo. Collazo probably has more room to adjust, so would probably be the favourite to win the rematch with Hatton. At 147, Hatton loses most of his advantages against his opponents, as out muscling and out working them play a huge part of his strategy.

    Chance of winning: 45%
    Excitement Factor: 6/10

    Arturo Gatti-147

This is an interesting and entertaining match up. Gatti is the bigger puncher at this weight, but Hatton is the better all round fighter. Hatton may get hit more by Gatti at 147 but he should retain enough strength and speed to beat the Canadian to the punch. This should take the older man out of his comfort zone, and give Hatton the edge.

    Chance of winning: 65%
    Excitement Factor: 9/10

    Junior Witter-140

Witter keeps promising good performances, but has not really delivered for quite some time (his last semi decent fight was almost 2 years ago against Lovemore N’dou). The switch-hitting Bradford puncher is dangerous, but Hatton would be too strong and too relentless.

    Chance of winning: 70%
    Excitement Factor 7/10

    Oscar DeLaHoya 147

If Oscar could make 147lbs, this fight would be a real thriller. However, given the Golden Boys recent destruction of Ricardo Mayorga, he would be far too big and far too powerful for an already undersized Hatton at the Welterweight limit.

    Chance of winning: 25%
    Excitement Factor: 9/10

I Agree with everything except the Collazo Re-Match Outcome.

  10. bushpig Says:

Cant disagree too much with them stats,,,im a mad Hatton fan and maybe biased but i reckon Hatton would beat Collazo second time round more convincingly, it wouldnt make for a good fight and with all respect to Collazo who would wanna watch a rematch,,it were always going to be a close fight and harder than people expected because Hatton struggles against southpaws,,plus the height and reach difference,,the boy did okay,,it werent ever gonna be an easy one!!!
Ill get dissed for this i know,,,but,,,put Mayweather at 140 and i dont think he can live with Hatton,,i believe Judah would lose to Hatton at any weight, the same way Mayweather couldnt put him away as hatton couldnt with Collazo some fighters styles just dont make good fights, and then outcome all the doubters outta the woodwork to slate whichever fighter they feel is a real threat.
Hurts to say it but Ricky i dont like your chances if you fight Mayweather at 147,,but my biased side would be willing you to win.
