Promoter Frank Warren is having a hard time finding a suitable opponent for the Prince of Wales, Joe Calzaghe

Who will and won’t fight Joe Calzaghe

Securing an opponent for Joe Calzaghe’s July 8 show at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium has been frustrating for Frank Warren.

“Wherever we have turned, guys have then gone and been beaten,” said Warren to the BBC.

“We’ve got two American-based boxers lined up. I’ll sit down and talk with Joe and we will make a decision soon.”

An announcement on the foe for the 34-year-old Welshman’s WBO and IBF super middleweight titles has been put off three times already.

Allan Green was a possibility, Warren said, and then he took a fight and went down in the third round, so that was no longer an option.

Librado Andrade didn’t fancy it, Mikkel Kessler was supposed to be fighting in June but he’s pulled something so he’s out,” Warren said.

Yusef Mack is another one we’ve looked at but he got beat over the weekend.

“We talked to Edison Miranda and his management said yes, but then he turned down the fight.”

Calzaghe thinks he knows why it’s been hard to get someone to glove up against him.

“Maybe people are thinking twice after seeing my last performance against Jeff Lacy,” he said.

“People have been asking for too much money, but that’s part and parcel of boxing.”

I think calzaghe should fight clinton woods it would make a massive domestic fight which would be a classic. I think calzaghe woulds win so then he should go on to face the ring king-roy jones jr altough rjj isnt the great pound 4 pound king he was years ago it would make a truly special event-to fast handed fighters, both very agile and smotth and both wont be around for too long ang would make a great payday. If joe should come victorious which i think he would(via majority decision) he should then face the magic man antonio tarver this should be the best and most dangerous fight of them all wich if goes the distance i think joe would snatch it but if tarver catches joe in the early stages of the fight maby his record might not be kept in tactbut no matter wat these are the best opponents for calzage and should be his last opponents so he cdan retire Undefeated Champion with an unblemished record.

I’d like to see Calzaghe fight Clinton Woods. Clinton has the IBF Light Heavy title, which is recognised by the Americans more than say the WBO title would be…i.e Joe would still be wanted in the states.

The last thing Carl Froch wants to do is step in the ring with Joe, because he wouldn’t last a round. He’s simply not in Joe’s league. I’m sure Froch will still continue to run his mouth, but its going to fall on deaf Ears.

Ideally, I’d have wanted Joe to fght Kessler, but as he’s injured, that isnt an option right now.

Whoever Joe fights though, expect him to still be an undefeated unified world champion at the end of it!

Whoever has whatever alphabet super-middleweight title should feel PRIVILEDGED to have his hat handed to him by Calzaghe! I hope they hurry, because Roy Jones looks like he could make 168 and ultimately be DESTROYED by the Champ! Somebody, PLEEEEEAAASE stand up and face the man so my idol (RJJ) doesn’t have to!!!!

I guess if Hopkins can match it with Tarver at this stage in Hopkins career, it should be no problem for Joe Calzaghe.
