Gatti-Baldomir… get ‘em while they last

Main Events CEO Kathy Duva has announced that there are fewer than 2,000 seats remaining for the July 22 Arturo Gatti/Carlos Baldomir bout in the 12,000 seat Boardwalk Hall Arena.

The 12-round championship bout will be broadcast on HBO’s “World Championship Boxing” series.

Tickets, priced at $400, $250, $150, $100 and $ 50, went on sale to the public Saturday, April 1. They can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-736-1420.

Baldomir (42-9-6, 12 KOs) shocked the universally recognized welterweight champion Zab Judah Jan. 7, 2006, to win the welterweight title (W 12). The 34-year-old Santa Fe, Argentina, native has not lost a bout in more than five years, compiling an 18-0-2 record in his past 20 bouts.

Gatti (40-7, 31 KOs) is a two-time world champion who is responsible for several of the top non-heavyweight live gates in the history of Atlantic City, NJ. The 33-year-old Jersey City, NJ, resident by way of Montreal, Canada, dismantled undefeated Dane Thomas Damgaard in his most recent bout Jan 28, 2006, (TKO 11). Gatti has won six of his past seven bouts and is ranked No. 2 by the World Boxing Council and No. 6 by The Ring magazine.

Gatti and Baldomir will make for an exciting, non-stop action, fight. Believe me when I say this is NOT a sleeper.

Baldomir became a name with his upset win over “Super” Zab Judah. You point out that he hasn’t lost a fight in over five years. Other than the fight with Zab, I don’t know much about this fighter.

Gatti, on the other hand, is known, not for the person he last fought, but for his throwback style of fighting that reminds the avid boxing fan of what we love about boxing. Yes, he lost to the big names like De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather, etc., but those defeats didn’t destroy him as a boxer. And you know the old saying “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger”.

Baldomir shows that he can rise to the occasion and pull off an upset, especially when he is ranked as the underdog.

Gatti shows that he will fight to the last drop of his blood with every opponent he faces - underdog or not.

Who wins? I think Gatti will do enough in every round to win by unanimous decision - but I’ve been wrong before!

Baldomir by TKO I like gatti but he doesnt look as big and pretty worn down. However baldomir isnt really posted as A type fighter so gatti has a real chance if he moves and boxs around the ring.

Gatti has got him. But he needs to go to the body

I was at this fight in AC. (In fact Baldomir’s name was spelled wrong on our tickets, so we were worried they were counterfeit) Baldomir is the faster fighter I have ever seen live. Gatti put up quite a fight, but Baldomir was simply the better fighter. Only $75/ticket for the worst seats in the house, but at least we were there.
