Arum Wants To Match Margarito With Winky Wright

Winky Wright mentioned the name Antonio Margarito as one of the possibilities once he decides to lace up again and step in to the ring.
Bob Arum, Margarito’s promoter, didn’t wait for Wright to enjoy a deserved hiatus before he started plotting the specifics of a Wright/Margarito match.
On Wednesday, the St. Petersburg Times reports, Arum made an offer he said is the most lucrative Wright has ever received to face WBO welter champion Margarito on HBO PPV on Oct. 7 in Las Vegas.
“Originally I was hoping to do Margarito-Mayweather, but Floyd doesn’t want any part of Margarito. Then I saw Mayweather, from what I understood, didn’t want any part of Winky either. So I figured why the hell not put these guys together. It’s a fight I’d want to see.'’
Arum said the payday would represent the largest guarantee of Wright’s career, topping what he made for beating Shane Mosley, Felix Trinidad and what he made fighting Jermain Taylor two weeks ago, when he came away with $3.5-million.
“Nope, I didn’t get that,'’ Wright said, denying the offer would be his biggest payday while not dismissing a match with Margarito, (3-4 with 24 KOs).
But Wright, who has fought at 160 pounds his last three fights, is extremely unlikely to drop to 147 to face off with Margarito. It’s too steep a weight drop to meet a dangerous banger. The last time Wright weighed in the 140s for a bout was 1992.
Now, a catchweight to face Mayweather, that’s a different story for Winky…
