Freddie Roach Blasts Erik Morales

By Michael Woods June 29th, 2006

Roach calls Morales a “nasty guy with a “big mouth

Freddie Roach, a tenderhearted sort who rarely expresses enmity towards anyone, cannot contain his dislike for Erik Morales.

In an interview with Viva Sports/Standard Today, Roach said: “I can’t wait to beat Morales again.”

Morales has claimed he would “clobber Pacquiao much easier than the first fight,” which he won by a 12-round unanimous decision in March 2005.

Morales also said that Manny Pacquiao is scared of him, and that set the normally soft-spoken Roach off.

Of Morales, who was demolished by Pacquiao in their January rematch, Roach said: “I don’t dislike too many people in boxing, but this guy has a big mouth. He talks a lot. He says Manny is a bum, Manny is slow. I can’t wait to beat this guy again.”

Roach continued, saying Pacquiao’s win over Morales was his favorite of all his wins as a trainer, because the Mexican “is a nasty guy. He’s talking bad about the Philippine people. You know what? Manny is going to knock him out again.”

The talkative trainer also predicted that Pacquiao would demolish Marco Antonio Barrera if he craves a rematch with Pac Man, adding “Manny is too much for him.”

Roach also indicated that Pacquiao may fight Rocky Juarez after he gets past Morales and Barrera.

Whew.

That’s a lot of talking, a lot of planning, a lot of speculation about the future.

Could this be one of the ingredients in the recipe for an upset?

Is Roach looking past Oscar Larios?

Is Pac Man daydreaming about future spoils, rather than current toils?

On July 2, we’ll know…

    Hi Michael,
This is what makes boxing. This kind of talk can be heard from the time the event became a sport. I guess Roach is being normal. What we need more of is the likes of Mayorga who brings fire into the sport. Gentlemen always find it hard to fit well in this arena. They’re boring. Trash talking is boxing at its best. Boxing is big business and looking ahead is a way to rile opponents, minimize doubts and instill optimism… just as long as training is not compromised.
Of course I doubt if Larios is being taken for granted. I’m sure Roach’s remarks took only a few minutes while the rest of 24/7 is not wasted daydreaming about Juarez, Barrera and Morales, etc.
Your article sparks interest and we need more of it.
Thanks for allowing my opinion to be heard. Have a great day, Michael!

  2. mon gelido Says:

well thats what makes the sport more exciting, boxing is is a contact sport
and add some trash talking to it and that makes it the biggest crowd drawer in all sport(thats my own opinion)and paychecks too.
    thanks Michael and GOD Bless.

  3. ElGuapo Says:

FR is only telling the truth man!

  4. Darthvapor Says:

Morales can say whatever he wants to say about the 2 bouts he had with PacMan but it will never change the fact that he suffered his most humiliating defeat thus far at the hands of PacMan.

  5. Roberto Villaranda Says:

    Michael,

Trash talking is good if you have a real reason to do so, but for Erick he has no reason considering that Manny has beaten him very convincingly, Pacmans camp have given him a rematch, so he cannot say that Manny’s afraid of him, he keep on telling us that Manny’s punch is not good enought for him and yet it’s the punch that gave him the 1st knockout loss of his career.

Erick should be a gentlemen, fights can be sold on merits not things like that, look at Winky he talks less and let’s his punch do the talking…

  6. Tom Says:

    Hi Michael,

I do agree with the comment of Ton. This really makes this kind of sport more exciting.

I can’t wait for the July 2 rumble.

Both camps should be calm and “Let the GLOVES DO THE TALKING’ on July 2, 2006.

    Have a nice day!

  7. Fidelee Says:

I agree with michael have said.. trash talking is a part in the sport of boxing but as always you can shut that big mouth inside the ring.. :)

  8. Leonardo Echano Says:

The rivalry between 2 boxers become more exciting if you add some thrash talking before and after a fight…and becomes more satisfying if the boxer who’s doing the thrash talking is beaten to a pulp. And that’s how Pacman is going to do to EM comes Nov.18. But hey, EM is one of the truest warrior of the game and admire him for that! Good day.

  9. Nandi Ayahao Says:

Eric Morales cannot be blamed for trying to sell the bout this early because he gets it, per contract, irrespective of the results of July 2.

And this may be his last big bout before sailing to the sunset.

Roach is doing the same thing — to hype Pacman v Morales III.

    Cheers!

  10. benn Says:

morales should put his mouthpiece on all the time.

  11. mike Says:

poor morales,,, i think he needs a pyschiatrist help in that matter. remember, pacman demolished him in a very convincing boxing style. he suffered broken nose and his face look like tomato squash.

  12. miguelito Says:

let’s put erik morales aside first.. it’s this chololo that we must be focus. I know pacquiao will win this sunday July 2. And i can see it will not go to distance, but pacman must not be over confident, bcoz boxing is an unpredictable sport, no one is really safe until you knocked your opponent out.

I wish pacman the best of luck and we will be by your side. Kick larios butt out of there.please!!!!

  13. AJ_Dad Says:

FR is not making a hype, he simply says what he felt. He doesn’t want other people to belittle whatever achievements he and Pacman got.

  14. zorro05 Says:

…..Morales needs to do this trash talking because he’s the one going after Pacman, after what Pacman did to him in their last fight…..; He needs to build his confidence, his machismo, ego, etc….; but, if the 3rd fight pushes through, the result will be the same…;Pacman will knocked him out again….!!

  15. Medeon Maraon Says:

Let everyone say “Amen” to what Freddie Roach said.

  16. Samjoy Says:

” Keep on Punching” Amen!!! Mabuhay si Freddie Roach and Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

  17. odin star guys Says:

    hi! gud day,,,

THAT’S PART OF THE GAME…GUD LUCK “”"”PACMAN”"”"”

  18. Jarod Says:

Let Erik tell what he wants. Those things he have been telling are the exact opposite things he had experienced in the 2nd fight. Could have been the effects of the hard punches of Manny on his head. I think he should see a SHRINK and have a CT scan. He’s brains may have some damage. Its clouding his thoughts and judgements.

  19. jigx Says:

The only thing that’s left with Morales is his PRIDE. No more, no less. He’d rather face Barrera - they’re both past their prime and yet will still sell anyway. Facing the PAC is dangerous for both of this guys. MAB and EM were beaten black and blue when they lost to PAC. Will it still be the question on who is the better fighter?

  20. calvin kane Says:

Boxing is a science, contests of wills, and doing whats needed to beat the other person..humility in victory and graciousness in defeat separates men from animals

  21. Bobot Says:

    Larios is so “HILARIOS”

  22. PG18 Says:

    hi there :)

i just want to say that chololo has the most beautiful eyes, i dont like pacquiao, hes so freakin’ ugly! OMG! i cant stand his horrible mug!

well, thats it! if you want to have a friendly chat with me and youre a cute guy please log in pacland, i’ll be more than glad to introduce you to my friends there and the exciting world of boxing…

    polgas xoxo

  23. malkovic Says:

losing in a 12 round decission and losing via KO or TKO is the same thing, the point is that you are a LOSER, but i rathere lose in a decission than in a KO. peace man!

  24. emon Says:

I believe it’s better if morales should visit a brain MD, remember?!he’s head was like an elastic punching ball (ouch!)

  25. Valle Corro Says:

Boxing is a big business. Trash talking is a spice to the sport. This people knows that. They are already promoting the fight.

For Morales, no question, he is one of the most skillfull boxers in the world. But for sure he is now past of his time. The problem is, his mind does not agree with his body. That is why he needs to have a fight with Pacman this coming November to make sure there will be an agreement between his body and mind and he can retire peacefully.

I salute “El Terible” Eric Morales for he is really a great Mexican warrior.

  26. raffy m. dionisio Says:

    Hi Michael,

For sure Pacman will demolish Larios on July 2 and EM you are next for sure Pacman will bust you big mouth and big nose.

  27. selwyn Says:

    Hi Michael,

You’re wrong Raffy, Pacquiao will finally meet his match in the person of Oscar “Cho lo lo” Larios. He will destroy Pacman in 5 rounds, provided Manny will not answer his punches.

  28. BRUCELEE1206 from PACLAND Says:

Actually its a matter of what question you asked to FR. Maybe he was asked “What do you feel and think about what Morales said?” Ofcourse, he will answer the question, he will not just say “ask me again that question after the OL fight.” because the interview will not have any sense.

  29. BRUCELEE1206 from PACLAND Says:

    SELWYN,

i do not think that OL is the one who will destroy the PACMAN. I think he is not the one. There will come a time that PACMAN will meet his match but I do not think that OL is the one. Not yet SELWYN

  30. Kayo Kid Says:

Erik Morales trash talking is good for Manny.
This will just make Manny train twice harder.
“I can’t wait to beat Morales again.
    Will be
“I can’t wait to KILL Morales.

  31. jet encila Says:

Morales is pathetic. He can’t accept the fact that Pacquiao is just better than him. Period. Fighting him, again, is another big mistake. His manager and trainer know this. The whole Mexican population know this. There’s no luck in boxing if that’s what he’s looking for in their third return bout. There’s only skills, the right punches, and a lot of big heart. Manny has all these. Erik lacks one thing — the ability to SCARE Pacquiao. He’s scared of Manny. He’s just good at not showing it. Let him fight Pacquiao again it it pleases him. He’ll find out that this decision is the most fatal of all.

  32. junji Says:

Morales is talking trash once again. that is what poor loosers love to do. i admire coach freddie for standing up in place of the pacman’s shoes. i know is such a class act to give in to morales’ trash talking. manny will humiliate morales again in their third encounter!!! coach freddie will surely be the one left who tlaks trash after manny’s victory.. as for the larios bout, i see manny knocking out larios in round eight..

  33. Mistah Says:

All that trash talk Morales is doing is what they call defensive mechanism in psychology. He needs to psyche himself up to alleviate the blow of his first knockout loss from Pacquiao to his ego.

  34. Mike Says:

Morales trash talk directed at Pacquiao camp is his way of admitting he was beaten bad and wants to get even. He is trying to draw attention so Manny of Freddie Roach will take the bait and get mad at him. Psychologically, an angry fighter is a beaten fighter. Morales comment seems parallel to what the Greatest, Muhammad Ali, was on his heyday. He taunts his opponents to break their spirit. The only difference is Ali made good most of his prediction. In my opinion, if the 3rd bout is on hand, Morales won’t last 6 rounds. He would be beaten so badly his trainers won’t probably recognize his face!

  35. DJ Says:

I guess Eric M. is telling the truth,he can take the punches of Pacman…the result can show on his face…what more could it happen to his face if he cannot take the punches of pacman….try to think of it….hahaha…

  36. NICK S. Says:

Morales is a born loser… so is Larios. Another 6 round TKO for PACMAN!!!

  37. emon Says:

more taco EM more taco por flavor…………………….it might help.

  38. erwin Says:

erik morales will win if the game is bragging and trashtalking ( this guy has no commonsens) i think i can handle this SOB myself!!!

  39. MannyPac Says:

I can’t wait to sit on Gar Shaw’s lap! For a fat guy he has a big….I will make love to Erik! I hope he DRAINS himself to make weight again. I remember having to drain myself and getting KO’d by a bum named Rustico Torrecampo…god bless him, he baptized my illegitamate child!! After the fight I will give away money so people won’t hate me. Gloria Arroyo will be pimped slapped if Erik wins…she sent a group of delegates to speak with MOrales camp…she said the fight was in the bag *wink* *wink*

  40. emon Says:

    yeah right………………………………………….dream on pal

  41. smack Says:

Man, Pacman will get murdered by Erik in the III fight. You people know damn well that Erik was cruising for another easy victory in the rematch, until he got tired around the 6th round. The whole massaging the legs didnt help neither. Any way, all u Mexican and Morales haters will see come November who the real king of the lower wieght classes. ERIK “EL TERRIBLE” MORALES!!!!

  42. emon Says:

Smack I respect your opinion my friend. But right now Pacquiao and Ibragimov is the deadliest fighter in the ring.Speaking of 6th round, that will be the end of el terrible’s career and i hope he will make the 130 lbs weight before the fight. The only mexican fighter right now who can beat Pacquiao is….. who else but Mr.Nacho Libre.Mabuhay ka Manny!!

  43. emon Says:

Pacquiao” No.1 overall pound for pound boxer of the year” according to worldboxingmedia.com release date 7/7/06.Morales is not even on the top 12 list.Congratulations Manny d’Destroyer Pacquiao, you deserve to be No.1 in the world. And next year Ibragimov will be on the top 12 list, that’s for sure.

  44. MAN_PAC_007 Says:
