Promoter DiBella Thinks Highly Of ‘Spoon, Paez

Lou DiBella’s give and take on Saturday’s ShoBox card

None of his fighters are on TV for Saturday’s ShoBox card, but Lou DiBella isn’t pissed. He liked the concept of the ’sons of legends’ card so much, he put it together and stood back.

The offspring of Hitman Hearns, Buddy McGirt and Jorge Paez are getting it on in Michigan, and Tim Witherspoon’s second cousin Chazz will headline the feature.

TSS put DiBella on the spot, and asked which new generation boxer has the most upside.

“It’s hard to tell,” DiBella said. “Chazz could be an exciting heavyweight. The Paez kid is a good fighter.”

All the offspring are in with opponents that at the least have decent records, so hopefully everyone will be tested and the card will be enjoyable.

I’m most interested in the heavies, always scouting for an heir apparent, so my eyes will be most focused on Witherspoon (12-0). He’s 24, but just started fighting in 2002. The kid is bright and a solid all-around athlete, so my hopes are high that he pans out…

Note: A DiBella fighter will toil on the undercard. Jaidon Codrington, who will forever be associated with his Nov. 2005 destruction at the hands of Allan Green until he progresses to title-fight level, will meet Roy Ashworth (4-3) off TV.
