El Elegante meets Derry Destroyer at Orleans on Aug. 10

Mexico’s Carlos “El Elegante Bojorquez said he signed a contract on Tuesday to fight Irish John Duddy at the Orleans Casino and Hotel on Aug. 10.

“I’m really happy for this fight, said Bojorquez (26-8-6, 22 KOs), who stopped Marlon Thomas in two rounds last month. “I don’t know anything about this guy but I hear he’s good.

Duddy (17-0, 15 KOs), who lives in New York City but is originally from North Ireland, is coming off a seventh round stoppage of Alfredo Cuevas at Madison Square Garden on June 10. The fight will be 10 rounds at middleweight.

“I don’t know who this guy is…” buddy, thats the first mistake a bad fighter makes, take the money before you know your opponent. sorry dood.

  2. Jake Says:

Shame on Top Rank and Nevada for allowing this fight, especially considering that it will be televised. Bojorquez arguably should have been forced to retire after getting shellacked for 9 1/2 rounds by Ike Quartey last year. Modest-hitting Verno Phillips beat the crap out of him as well.

In the two fights combined, Bojorquez didn’t win a minute, never mind a round. Let’s keep in mind that both fights were at JUNIOR middleweight, and both against faded vets.

THIS fight comes against a promising, power-punching full-fledged MIDDLEWEIGHT. What’s worse, Bojorquez is taking the fight on two weeks notice.

Sorry - I don’t have a good feeling about this one, and shame on anyone who looks forward to this fight.

If Duddy is not as good as advertised, he will get knocked out just like Marlon Thomas. If Duddy tries to slug, he will be the one shellacked.

  4. Ken Hissner Says:

I thought Jim Rock of Ireland had this fight. With Yori Boy Campas signed for 9/29, Irish Ropes should give Duddy at least 2-3 mos between fights of this caliber. Duddy is #11 in the latest WBA ratings. Hope he is not pushed to quick.

  5. Jake Says:

The Jim Rock fight got pushed back to later in the year, and will most likely be in Ireland.

And that said - referring to Bojorquez and Campas as “fights of this cailber” while expressing concern? Duddy’s a hard-hitting middleweight taking on a pair of shot super welterweights.

  6. Rockin Rev Says:

John Duddy has had 133 amatuer fights, he is ready as anyone can be for some real competition. Let him be pushed. John wants to fight as often as possible, like six times a year. I’m sure he will slow down later. I don’t see this as a tough fight for John. It is supposed to be aired on the OLN network, on cable.
