Hey Manny Pacquiao, Don’t Forget Juan Manuel Marquez
By Uncategorized August 7th, 2006Matchmaker Alert: What about Pac Man vs. JMM?
Manny Pacquiao is working hard before his planned retirement in 2007. The Filipino slugger is in the process of preparing for a rubber match against Erik Morales on November 18 and has other deals on the horizon.
Pacquiao was recently quoted as saying, “Maybe after about two fights, I will retire already. I want to personally supervise my business ventures. It really makes a difference when one manages his own business.”
His second major fight will most likely be a rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera. When they fought in 2003, Pacquiao dominated the bout before knocking him out in 2003. Barrera has since made a comeback, winning his five fights since then.
A rematch will certainly be interesting. But what about Juan Manuel Marquez?
Their 2004 bout started off with one of the most brutal first rounds in history, as Pacquiao put Marquez on the canvas three times. However, Marquez kept his head and battled his way back to a draw. The bout was not without controversy in Pacquaio’s favor. A scoring error in the first round cost Pacquiao a point on one judge’s scorecard. Had that not occurred, he would have won a razor-thin split decision.
Nevertheless, it was one of the most thrilling draws in the past decade and of all of Pacquiao’s bouts, that one left me with the greatest sense of wonder. If the Barrera fight does not materialize or if Pacquiao wants to take care of all of his unfinished business, then I hope he will fight Marquez again before hanging it up.

I agree with you. I would love to see a rematch of that fight more than a rematch against Barrera, who he clearly beat, and is a bit past his prime.
After the first round, I thought Marquez won almost every round, and am happy that the bout was scored a draw and not a win for Pacman.
Marquez also surprised me with the way he won this past weekend. He seemed to have a lot more fire in that fight, and I think he needed to win in that type of fashion.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to say that JMM won every round except the first is ridiculous. PACMAN has been improving and the version that had the Draw fell in love with his double right left sequence that knocked JMM down 3 times in the first round.
IF JMM fights the new two fisted, body attacking, lead with his left, right hooking PACMAN, I think he’ll be in serious trouble. The new PACMAN has not only improved his skill set but his confidence and experience have also increased as well.
Did you see JMM’s right eye? If the Turdsak can do that kind of damage with his left, what kind of trouble would he be in with Pacmans power @ 130?

tru, JMM will hav too much on his hands with Pac. and he should def fight JMM again and not barrera. its all about money and not good fights. juarez beat him in may, now a ppv rematch, rahman should hav been pressing the issue harder for a unification bout with Vlad KlitchsKO, instead another pointless rematch on ppv. im not paying for either of these fights, ill enjoy it free on hbo. im kinda pissed about the way things hav been goin on in the boxing world

Pac wants nothing to do with JMM. And he’s correct, because JMM will smack him around for 12 rounds en route to a lopsided decision and end the MP mystique.

JMM cannot beat a more improved and versatile pacman. Beside, if JMM want Pacman, he must go to 130lbs and I don’t think JMM can make his way through that league. If not for damge hand of Pacman after the first round of his fight with JMM, JMM will not survive the 5 rounds. Still Pacman never quit eventhough his left hand was badly damaged during the first round of the fight

sana hindi muna magreitire si manny gusto kung lumaban sya sa mas mabigat na timbang kc pinabagsak na nya lahat ng mabibigat na boxer sa 130 division at para malaman natin kung ano talaga sya kagaling sa boxing.

J.M. Marquez is not big enough to handle Pac-man at 130lbs. Pac-man has improved in all of his fights, especially the re-match with Morales. No disrespect to Marquez, but Pac-Man is too good right now.

I think PM can beat all three Mexican warriors again…However, JMM will give him one hell of a fight…..Barrera should not fight PM because PM will seriously hurt him. Although Im a big MAB fan, he is definitely past his prime and it showed in the Rocky Juarez fight…..The bigger Morales, can probably re-invent himself one last time and will himself to a great all out, balls to the wall effort against PM, but at the end he will once again run out of gas, but not before putting up a great fight for about 7 or 8 rounds.

Manny Pacquiao is just obviously a very improved prayer. His confidence right now is soaring. In his last fight with Larios, Pacman was hit by very good shot by Larios, but he did not panic. He weathered the storm and methodically outboxed, outmoved and outstrategized Larios who nevertheless gave a good account of himself.
JMM will give a good account of himself when he fights the Pacman. But, i do not see JMM winning. He will be down and out by the 8th if he is lucky enough to reach the 8th round.
Barrera vs. Pacquiao II is one of the most anticipated fight of all. I hope it really happens. Barrera can still fight. He is intelligent, seasoned, strong and a great champion. He may even win this one. But even as Barrera has improved since being clobbered by the Pacman, Pacman is not only improving also but learning to improvise in the ring. His boxing IQ seems to be getting higher and higher with each fight. I agree, Barrera will give a good account of himself, but it is likely that the match will be his swan song.
