Bert Sugar feels your pain… and then some

For those of you who feel that boxing gets shafted by the sports encyclopedia genre, Bert Sugar feels your pain. The Lyons Press will release Bert Sugar’s Boxing Encyclopedia: Everything You Want to Know and More. Sugar, the former editor of The Ring, Boxing Illustrated, and Fight Game is widely considered the sport’s resident historian by those inside and outside of the fight game.

According to Amazon.com, the 600-page book will list the records of over 2,000 fighters and a detailed history of every championship bout. Like all encyclopedias, Sugar’s book will also feature articles and sections discussing boxing’s most significant fighters, trainers, managers, and promoters throughout history. Both amateur and women’s boxing will receive coverage as well.

Sugar has authored more than 50 books, including his updated version of Boxing’s Greatest Fighters, which was released earlier this year. His Encyclopedia is scheduled for release in May of 2007.
