Big Daddy tries and fails to file for bankrupcy
Prince George’s County, Maryland, is opposing former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe’s bankruptcy reorganization plan because it does not allow for the payment of property taxes, The Washington Times reported.
The county filed its objection Friday, August 11, in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Greenbelt, Maryland. Officials say the plan does not account for two tax liens the county holds on properties owned by Bowe.
The Times reported that the annual taxes for Bowe’s two properties in Fort Washington, Maryland, are about $5,000 each. Bowe did not comment on the objection. His attorney said a court hearing on Bowe’s debt reorganization is scheduled for later this month.
The former two-time heavyweight champion served 17 months in prison for kidnapping his former wife and their five children. Since his release in 2004, he has made a sporadic comeback, fighting only twice.
Bowe filed for bankruptcy in October of 2005. He has not fought since then. However, the 39-year-old fighter is scheduled to return to the ring on October 6 in Norfolk, Virginia, against George Linberger.
Bowe is gonna leave October 6 a broken man – literally.
Oh yeah…I don’t know if this is 100% true, but I read that Andrew Golota is also coming back (!)
