P4P king PBF meets Carlos Baldomir at Mandalay Bay
Dan Goossen, president of Goossen Tutor Promotions, announced that P4P king Floyd Mayweather (36-0, 24 KOs) will challenge Carlos Baldomir (43-9-6-, 13 KOs) for the WBC welterweight title he won from Zab Judah at the Garden.
The fight will be co-promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions and HBO PPV will broadcast the bout on Nov. 4 from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
“We’re ecstatic to see the true grit abilities and determination of the modern day Cinderella Man taking on the likes of Mayweather,” said Goossen, “[who's] clearly on the road to becoming one of the greatest of all time.”
“Mayweather-Baldomir, on paper, conjures up thoughts as a Fight of the Year candidate, and from a sports fan’s perspective this bout represents the linear world welterweight champion in Baldomir going against the pound-for-pound best in Mayweather.
“Mayweather continues to face champions in higher weight classes. This spectacular extravaganza will determine if size matters when Baldomir tries to impose his will and strength on Mayweather. Or will the ‘Pretty Boy’ show the world once again size doesn’t matter when fighting the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world?”
Theoretically, Mayweather-Baldomir is a more desirable bout than the recently announced Mayweather vs. Cory Spinks. Still, it’s hard to imagine Baldomir laying a hand on speedy Mayweather, whether the fight goes 10, 12 or 15 rounds.
I guess this is better than MW fighting Spinks….. I’m happy that “Tata”will get to cash in on one more huge payday. I don’t give him a realistic chance of beating MW only for a couple of reasons, MW is way to fast for him and MW is an extremely smart boxer who will not take any risks. Besides “Tata” is not known for having one punch power.
With that being said, the only way MW knocks out Tata is if he brings a sledghammer into the ring with him.

Hopefully PBF does a ton of body work, as that is supposedly Baldomir’s semi weakness.
I can’t see Floyd getting a KO, but a stoppage or a cut are very likely.
I’m happy to see Baldomir getting Mayweather in the ring so that he can cash in for being the “true” welterweight champion. I wouldn’t have bought the fight if it would have been Spinks. I don’t see Mayweather losing this fight honestly. After this fight, if and when Mayweather wins, hopefully he doesn’t have any excuses as to why he can’t fight a serious opponent that has a chance at beating him. De La Hoya, Mosely or Margarito “Pretty Boy?” You have to fight one of them after Baldomir because I won’t pay $49.95 to see youagain on PPV unless you’re fighting another serious contender.

Unfortunately, your scenario only means Margarito will be on the outside looking in for another year because Mayweather’s next fight will be with either Oscar or Sugar Shane.

Floyd should win, but Judah and a lot of others were supposed to win also. I think Floyd will easily outbox Baldy the 1st half, and then try to jackhammer that concrete chin the 2nd leaving Baldy some openings. He’s not fast but I agree with Teddy Atlas, he has good timing on his punches. This should be way more exciting than a Spinks fight. Floyd is stepping up to the plate for this one and I’m glad to see it happen.
Baldomir vs Mayweather is the better fight, conflicting styles and the way to beat a boxer like Mayweather is to swarm him with bunches. Baldomir has a great chance to do this, if he can corner Pretty Boy, we’ll see what kind of punishment he can take.
Strange as it may sound I’m rooting for Baldomir. Clearly, this dude is not afraid of facing the best, I’ve got to hand it to him. If he does defeat Mayweather, he automatically becomes fighter of the year. Then he can take on Mosley next.
Besides I like to see the likes of Baldomir, Maskaev, and I’m hoping Shane Mosley get their dues, hard workers rather than big mouths like Toney and Judah.

If Mayweather comes out of this one alive, he’ll definately finish with at least one of his fragile hands broken. Considering that Baldomir’s a pressure fighter, I reckon he might give Floyd fits once in a while, even though he aint much of a puncher.

This will be a very boring fight. Baldomir is very overated. Baldomir beat an old and worn down arturo gatti. Baldomir beat a lazy Zab Judah. Baldomir isn’t even close to the level a fighter that Floyd Mayweather is as a fighter. This will be a lopsided fight. I won’t be suprised if Mayweather knocks this bum out.

So Baldomir did beat a smaller, past-his-prime Gatti and an overconfident Judah, and Mayweather IS way out of Baldo’s league, but you have to give the guy some credit for stepping up to the challenge.

Floyd Ducks Margarito: Supposedly Floyd will make $8 mil on top of the PPV buys. PBF definitely got off the hook for getting that type of money. He has to duck Margarito because it appears that Baldy got PBF more money. I think Floyd is ducking Margarito also, but Floyd probably will make close to $9 mil off this fight. I’ve been on PBF hard for not fighting Tony but if PBF is making almost $9 mil of Baldomir, then Floyd is doing the right thing…doing good business. After this PBF…a big fight or bust.

Floyd will not have a problem out boxing this guy. Not taking anything away from him beacause he clearly beat Gatti…in his home town.He did beat Judah….but this is my man PBFloyd , ya heard me ? I am tired of people saying Mayweather is ducking Margarito, really who has Margarito beat!!!!!!!!!! Everybody is taking the critics words and making them there own. Margarito has 4 losses to unranked opponents let’s not forget that. Also the guys he is fighting are amatuer boxers so by far Mayweather is not ducking Margarito. The fact of the matter is Baldomir was the right man, he is considered the top welterweight in the division and Floyd is fighting him so what’s all the talk. Plus Floyd has two 15-25 multimillion dollar fights with Oscar and Mosley so why would he want to jepordize that. You people have to realize he is 30 years old he won’t be fighting forever, now he has to be smart. Plus Baldomir is a much harder fight for Floyd. Mayweather wins by blowout decision.

do not be fooled! Baldomir is cashing out! he got up for Gatti because that would open bigger doors to him. he’s as rugged as they come, but he said he’s only got a few fights left that will hopefully take care of his financial needs.
this fight is for the linear championship, and it’s legit but style-wise PBF will give Baldomir such a boxing lesson that “Tata” will be feeling the punches all the way back to Argentina.
PBF by easy decision, and no I’m not particularly a PBF fan but that’s the way it will turn out.
All I really want to say is that out of the four fights mentioned, Oscar, Sugar Shane, Margarito, and Baldomir the only fights I would want to see is either against Oscar or Sugar Shane because I feel like they’re closer to PBF level than Margarito or Baldomir. Honestly, I can see all of those fights happening over time starting off with Baldomir.
You have to feel bad about poor ole Tony. The only chance he will get at the title is if Baldo upsets MW. If MW wins, which is very very likely, he will go against Mosely… and I am sure Mosley will win that one, based on chin and power… eventhough MW is faster. That means 147 will belong to Golden Boy Promotions which will never give Margarito a shot.
You really have to wonder why didn’t Arum risked his money on a solid fighter like Margarito, while risking all that money on Rahman… I am sure that Bob could have easily lured Baldomir into unification match, offering a good deal with rematch clauses included, plus upsides of ppv revenue, etc….

I’m glad Pretty Boy is finally going to step up and show what he’s really made of. Baldomir is not over-rated nor is he under-rated. Sure he beat an older Gatti, but that still does not take away from the fact that Baldomir cannot box. Truth be told, Mayweather is faster and more agile, and all he has to do is outbox Baldomir. However, Baldomir is more of a warrior and is not an easy target to knockout. I think it will be an intense battle that will bring out the best in both of them. With that said, my hatred towards Mayweather still stands and I hope Baldomir punishes this paper-weight champion.
Baldomir is a dam good fighter and mayweather better not underestimate him like judah. he’s alot better than he gets credit for.but i will say that margarito is a more dangerous opponent to face than Baldomir, due to the style of each. He is also the one who will or” could have” beaten floyd.
with all that said, myt wife and i have met floyd back in 98/99 at r.steels former gym in vegas and i have to say that he was a complete gentleman , a very very nice kid .i liked him right away and from that moment ive rooted for him every time he fought and will continue to.but styles guys styles,with floyd ,if he’s waiting on you ,he’s in charge and at his best.When you have guys like baldomir and antonio margarito who are always putting excruciating pressure on you,it’s a different ballgame and floyds not going to have the time to pick his shots so easily. its going to be alot better than people think. theses guys arent stupid they know what theyve got to do to try and beat him,but can they execute? thats always the question isnt it?

On another blog it says that Mayweather is making $6 mil. for the fight against Baldomir instead of $ 5 mil. to fight Spinks:

I agree with Rob that this is definitely better than a Spinks fight but the purse shows he’s ducking Margarito. He’s making $ 2 mil. less and paid an additional $750k to get out of his contract. Sounds like a bitch move to me. On that note i hope Baldomir trains his ass off and knocks out Mayweather so everyone can stop riding his jock.
If Maweather trains, and he always does, he’ll knock Baldomir out! I’m not a big fan , but he’s that good. Baldomir has a good, no GREAT chin, but PBF’S body game is so strong, he’ll wear him down. Baldy doesn’t hit particularly hard, so he won’t be able to keep Floyd off of him. Make no mistake, I think Spinks at 154 is too much for him, but at 147, Baldomir’s a breeze. Margarito doesn’t appear to be better than PBF, but not taking 8 mil tells me that Floyd sees something I don’t, and he’s afraid of it. Anyway, Sugar Shane will clear this mess at 147 up next year when he beats the hell outta Gayweather. It’s time for Floyd to fight a guy with the hand and foot speed to match him, as well as more power and a better chin. SUGAR SHANE MOSLEY!!!!!!!

First you dog the man for not fighting Baldomir and Margarito, now that he is going to fight Baldomir a more proven fighter than Margarito you still dog him. He beat the same two opponents Baldy has in the same fashion. After PBF dismantles Baldomir you are going to say Baldy was a bum and PBF beat a nobody. I like the fight Baldomir-Mayweather. I would have preferred Margarito-Mayweather or Hatton-Mayweather, but that’s OK. Mayweather-Spinks did not attract me at all.
It would be a tremendous upset if Baldomir wins this fight. I’d make Mayweather the heavy favorite. Baldomir’s only chance will be if he can check Mayweather’s chin just like Judah’s. But Mayweather’s chin appears to be far more solid than Judah’s (who does the chicken dance when hurt). When Mayweather appears to be hurt, he clams up and is very had to hit.
A myth that needs to be dispelled is that Baldomir has an unbreakable chin. It’s true that it’s been a long time since he’s been KO’d. However, when he fought Joshua Clottey, I saw him look vulnerable.

Does anybody remember the 1st Castillo vs PBF fight. Castillo took him to school by closing out the ring and having a tough chin. PBF won but that was a gift of the gods.
Baldomir is the same type of fighter and if PBF does not move out of range it will be a tough one for him. If PBF wins I would like to see him continue to fight the best out in the field.

We all know what a technician PBF is ,,,and his team alike,,Baldi isnt gonna be a struggle to fight and beat. Its a technical match up by PBFs camp to gain as much as possible without facing too much danger and continue with the sound of pound for pounder. Unfortunatley every one that isnt a PBF brown noser knows the truth that it is orchestrated achievements avoiding dangerous hitters of each division.
