James Toney Looks For Sam Peter

Toney looked in shape in appearence at Pechanga

I saw James Toney at the Pechanga Casino who was there to support his sparring partner Cisse Salif in the co-feature against Damian “Bolo” Wills. I may have to retract my prediction of a Sam Peter win. Toney looks in great shape and serious about their upcoming September second bout which will televised on Showtime.

Also at Pechanga was heavyweight contender and Toney’s other sparring partner Javier Mora. I ran into him as he was standing in line for a beer. Mora is a talented Mexican-American heavyweight who somehow finds a way to sabotage his success. Like Toney, he also looked to be in shape. Is he finally getting serious? He lost his last outing in a rout to Fres Oquendo. Maybe less trips to the bar might help. This kid could make a ton of money if he got his head together.

Mora is a young kid with a future, when Toney retires, he’s gonna train Mora en route to the 1st Mexican hw championship. And if Toney comes in shape, hes indestructible.

  2. Rob M. Says:

Under 225 = “Good Shape” for James. Thats unreal for a 5′9″ man.
I cant wait to see Peter swingin at air while JT mocks him from 2 feet away.
Other than a lucky punch to the back of the head, I cant see Peter winning this one, hes way to slow and throws WIDE punches.

JT in shape?? I believe when I see it!

  4. DIGGY Says:

INDESTRUCTABLE??? This is the guy who lost TWICE to Montell Griffin!!!!The SAME guy who got COMPLETELY shut out by RJJ. The same guy who barely mustered a DRAW against Hasim Rahman!!! INDESTRUCTABLE……………are you friggin KIDDING?

  5. BoxingTalk Claims Says:

BoxingTalk Claims that Mr. Toney is near 270 pounds.

  6. G-Pal Says:

Easy with the “indestructable” Jackman. And Diggy, you forgot he lost to Drake Thadzi, too.

Unfortunately, with the current state of heavyweight division, Toney could beat the current crop if he comes in shape, but I wouldn’t go so far as to call him indestructable. He is the most technically skilled fighter out there right now, but he’s had two shots lately and HE blew them both. I’d love to see him come in in the 220’s and school young Peter, but I’m with Christian, I’ll believe it when I see it.

Hi. Toney’s made appearences at Pechanga for years. Believe me. I’ve seen Toney in terrible shape. There’s no way Toney’s weighing in at 270 pounds at the current moment.

  8. David Says:

If Toney should lose to Peter, he will lose a lot of credibility. Fighters like Toney create an superior image of themselves with their incessant talk about how great they are. This is in contrast to the Barreras and the Moraleses who talk litle and fight their hearts out.

That being said, Peter IS somewhat slow and plodding and a Lennox or Vitali would have dismantled him…Toney has as good a chance here with his rolling ducking defence.

  9. Gabriel Orama Says:

    Peter will knock out Toney.

  10. FELIPE LEON Says:

I’m with Ralph Gonzalez, I also saw Mr. James Toney at Pechanga and he did look in shape and in good spirits, so the estimate from boxingtalk.com is way off.

  11. scott steward Says:

Toney will win this fight, easily either by ko or decision Peter is way too slow and dosent throw many punches.

  12. Chris Says:

    Toney has the skill
    Peter has the will
    neither will take a spill
    fans may get a thrill
