Coincidence Of The Year: Bika’s Elbow Injury
By Michael Woods August 22nd, 2006Lie detector tests mandated for Calzaghe vs. Bika
Forgive me for being a skeptic. If you think I’m barking up the wrong tree here, then let me know…
But remember back three weeks back, when Sakio Bika withdrew from the Showtime super middleweight tournament? The reason cited was an injury to his elbow. Well, that elbow healed well enough for him to pick up a pen to fight Joe Calzaghe, didn’t it?
The Australian-based Bika, who fought to a technical draw with WBC super middleweight world champion Markus Beyer in Germany last May, will fight IBF and WBO titleholder Calzaghe on October 14 in Manchester.
Bika (20-1-2, 13 KOs) said he hurt the ‘bow in sparring a week before he was to fight Colombian Jose Luis Herrera.
He underwent surgery about two weeks ago and said his elbow was “95 percent good now.”
Fast healer, that Bika…
I’m not certain I like Bika’s “fightin’ words” going in to the biggest fight of his career, however…
“It is a very big challenge for me, its going to be very hard to beat him in England, but I’m going there to try to win,” he said.
Sounds somewhat like Prince Badi before he met Roy Jones, and we all know how that went…
Listen, maybe I’m seeing something that isn’t there, and there was a marvelous confluence of coincidence that added up to a big, fat break for Bika, but c’mon, this is boxing, where you know people are lying, most of the time, by applying one simple test: Are their lips moving?

I wondered if anyone was going to pick up on how well Bika “healed.”

Listen why would bika fight in this supposed super tournatment when he can fight the best IBO belt so what if he wins, Calzaghe is the best, Kessler, Beyer, then Mundine, Kessler will demolish Beyer with 7, so if Bika can cause the upset of the decade, bigger paydays await, 1)Mundine will definetly fight him in Aus after recently bashing Danny Green over 12 round, Mundine is the money man when it comes to this sport having promoted all of his fights he can draw a crowd 30k to his last fight, 2 Kessler will travel to Australia as he did when just beating Mundine 05, and Bika will travel to Denmark. If Bika can cause an upset we will finally unify the super middle weight belts as mundine is the mandatory challenger. Jeff Lacy should fight LH end of story….

Bika under no circumstance deserves this title shot. Boxing seems to be one of the few sports where the best never seem to get a shot at the championship. I can think of many super middleweights who have fought hard to push their way up the rankings, why is it that they are not getting their deserved shot? Boxing is a disgrace.
