Poll: Is Barrera/Juarez II Too Close To Call?

Who do you like in Saturday’s Barrera/Juarez rematch?

Will the young buck make a conclusive statement and demand a spot at the tiptop of the featherweight food chain?

Or will the consummate old pro step it up a notch, and shrug off Father Time’s advance and the youngster’s spirited attack, and maintain his standing in the division?

What about it, Blog Squad?

Who will prevail in the 12-round featherweight title match between Marco Antonio Barrera and Rocky Juarez on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to be shown on HBO Pay-Per-View?

Juarez, age 26, who won a silver medal for the U.S. in the 2000 Olympics, said he will step it up a notch as compared to his May attempt at Barrera’s WBC super feather crown.

“I feel that I have to beat him decisively the second time around,” Juarez (25-2, 18 KOs) said. “Not too many fighters get the second opportunity, a second chance for a title back-to-back, and as fast as this has happened. So I have to make the best of it and go out there and leave nothing behind.”

As you’ll recall, thirty minutes after had left the Staples Center after the first scrap, the verdict on that match was switched, from a draw to a MAB win. One judge’s scorecard had been added incorrectly.

“I wanted this fight more than anything because it was personal,” the 32-year-old Barrera (62-4, 42 KOs) said. “I had a debt with myself and I wanted to erase the debt. I’m not thinking knockout. I just want to beat him 12 rounds. In the first fight, I didn’t have the extra kick that I usually have, but this time I’m going to start with the kick and move from there. I really want to show people what Marco Antonio Barrera is all about.”

This bout is being billed as “Too Close To Call.”

But give it a shot, Blog Squad.

The old pro pulls out some special tricks and wins by another split decision. MAB is one of this generations best warrior and will come out with both guns blazin! Even though he won last time you can tell he wasnt happy with the fight.

I don’t see what was “Too close to call” in the first fight. I had Barrera with the win in the first place before they called it a draw. I’m from Houston and I think Juarez is great I think hes got potential to be champ…SOMEDAY but not this saturday. I think Barrera has to much experience and he’s going to look a lot better this fight I would really like to see the M.A.B from the Barrera Vs. Morales 3 fight cause I know that would really blow Rocky away cause he ain’t ready for that type of fight. What Juarez really needs to do is avenge that loss to Humberto Soto if he wants to be considered part of the boxing elite.

  4. Winslow says:

Barrera fought of his heels for most of the fight against Juarez the first time. This was due to the punching power of Juarez who proved he can cause alot of damage as scene at the outcome of the last fight. In the rematch expect Barerra to tire out in the second half of the fight. This time however Rocky does not let him of the hook. Rocky wins by TKO between rounds 8-10.

  5. Guido says:

I have to give the rematch to the man with more skill – in this case Barrera.

I’ve gone against Barrera before; I know better now.

  6. Eddy Manning says:

I like Juarez via fairly clear UD…a seemingly close first fight will only assist rocky more and if there is ever a well stereotyped ‘changing of the guards’ matchup- then this is it.

Rob M., I agree with you. Barrera wins again. On an off-night he was able to hold on for a win the first time, so this time he actually throws a few body shots to sap some of Rocky’s strength. Barrera wins a close, but unanimous decision this time.
