Paul Spadafora Back In Action

Paul Spadafora working off two years of ring rust

Former IBF lightweight champion Paul Spadafora has returned to the gym after a two-year layoff.

Known as “The Pittsburgh Kid, the undefeated Spadafora (38-0-1, 15 KOs), who won the crown from Israel Cardona in 1999 and defended eight times, began sparring this week, trying to work off the ring rust from his recent incarceration.

“Paul has looked spectacular in the gym. I know there has been a lot of speculation that Paul will be returning to the ring in October on the Mike Tyson card, but that is not accurate, Spadafora’s promoter Michael Acri said. “The truth is we have not established a timetable for Paul’s return to the ring yet. The whole team is in complete agreement that we will let Paul’s progress in the gym dictate when he fights next.

Whenever that is, we’ll be ready. It will be good to see Spadafora in action again.

The man who dominated PBF in sparring is back.

  2. wayne says:

Timetables. Interesting that point is brought up.If Spadafora is and believes he is a truly great fighter then a timetable should be zero concern. Spadafora’s timetable should be a match with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

  3. G-Pal says:

Shoot your girlfriend in the stomach and you only lose two years of your career. That’s a sad indictment of the U.S. justice system.

I hope this chump gets knocked out in his first fight back.

  4. Sean says:

He should fight Emanuel Augustus first. Augustus deserves a high profile opponent.

  5. G-Pal says:

Let me say this again……HE SHOT HIS FIANCE!!!!!!!! Who cares about this criminal.

  7. Paulie says:

G-Pal, the truth is, many great boxers are former crims.

  8. Rob M. says:

Spadafora/Dorin was an awesome fight, I hope he gets his personnal life straight and brings some action to BAD, it needs it.

  9. G-Pal says:

Paulie, I understand many boxers are former criminals who got their lives together and went on to have great careers. One great example of that is Bernard Hopkins. He made a mistake when he was young, did his time and had a Hall of Fame career because he kept his life straight.

My problem with Spadafora is that he was already a CHAMPION making good money when he did this act of stupidity. He wasn’t a wayward kid who got in trouble, a la Mike Tyson, Paul was already a grown man and a world champion when he SHOT his girlfriend. Now he did 13 months on an attempted murder and everyone’s ready to welcome him back with open arms. No thank you.

  10. Paulie says:

G-Pal, you make a good point, mate. You have to wonder why they didn’t do him in like they did James Butler and Cliff Etienne.

  11. Prince Mikey says:

Spady is the Best fighter in the world! Team Spadafora Forever!

i know these post are old and i am one of pauls cousin and he made is mistakes ( due to catching an addiction…which 90% of the time comes with the fame!) but paul is more than just focus he is determained to get back what used to be his…a championship belt! and G-Pal…you must feel stupid cause he smashed his first opponent…5th round fight stopped due to major punishment….i felt bad for that kid!…i seen it first hand….i think i might even of got hit with his blood….he fights again march 7th…which will be another W to take him to 40-0-1…now how could you not love those numbers…I love you spat and im with you forever kid…go get what is so rightfully yours cuz!

Spaddy was my bunkmate in the quehanna boot camp… He was just messed up in his head out there when he was on drugs and that…. This guy is very down to earth and you would never know he was even a boxer or had money like that if you met him…. give the guy a break

  14. big hurt` says:

i grew up with spaddy he was a jackass then and still is he needs to be thrown in jail for a long time little punk ass paul

  15. Sara says:

People make mistakes… especially when they have problems with drugs and alcohol (not to mention young fame & money). Young adult relationships are generally passionate and hormonal to begin with, and taking into account these other factors… he made a big mistake. I feel sorry for both he and his ex. That’s a tough situation to be in. Leave the guy alone, though. He’s trying to get his life back and make good decisions. Hopefully this was an experience that he learned a lot from, and hopefully he’ll continue on the straight and narrow. I can’t wait to see his next fight… I’m so glad he’s coming back to fight.

    Good luck Paul!

i know paul well. for all those and especially G-pal, did you ever think that maybe his “FIANCE”was a cazy goldiggin fame cravin psycho? did you know she pulled the gun out first? if she was so sober and concerned, y when you know your mans drug and alcohol problem would you provoke him with his own gun? i know so he could go to jail and you could spend all his money by the time he got out. brilliant. what kind of woman threatens to drive her own precious 2 year into a wall? heartbroken or not, what the hell are you thinking? leave him alone he’s a good hearted man and father who is stuck with a psycho in his life.
