Vitali Klitschko To Come Out Of Retirement?

By Uncategorized November 8th, 2006

Vitali Klitschko is waiting for Lennox Lewis

Vitali KlitschkoHe always has his little brother’s back, and gracefully concedes the spotlight to Wladimir when fight time is near. But Vitali Klitschko’s competitive juices have not dried up during his two years away from the ring.

TSS spoke to V at the final press conference for the Saturday night showdown at Madison Square Garden which pits Wladimir against undefeated American Calvin Brock and asked him if saw himself lacing the glove back on, and seeing what he has left at age 35.

“I will perhaps be having an alcoholic drink at my hotel,” he said, grinning widely, “and will have my comeback tonight in a bar fight.”

More seriously, Klitschko said, he hopes Lewis gets bored during his retirement.

Klitschko’s body, he said, still hasn’t bounced back from the ailments that plagued his last years as a pro puncher.

My knee is not 100% ready,” he said. “I’m not ready.”

He did tune in to see the Liakhovich/Briggs Showtime scrap on Saturday and finds himself comparing himself with other boxers when he does tune in. “I see the fight and think, ‘I can do better.”’

“Briggs was not impressive in this fight,” V said. “He is the champ for Showtime. And I’m not impressed with Liakhovich.”

“And I hope Maskaev fights Wladimir,” he said, again breaking into an impish grin.

First and foremost, he’d like to see his brother help fight fans render a proper verdict on the Giant Valuev.

“Most important, a boxer needs speed, punch and technique,” he said. “Does Valuev have these three points?”

And if Lewis gets bored, and is tired of changing diapers and trying to master the art of broadcasting, Klitschko said he would be willing to get in to shape and get it on.

“If Lewis says yes, we can discuss and find a day for me to be ready.”

vitaly, the place is open man,you can make more money man
look at what is going on?,come back lewis is gone.

  2. Mark Says:

Come back you beat lewis in that fight as far as i and many other boxing fans i know belive and you started to become a real hero in boxing plus your better than anyone out there now come back and take over the heavyweight division really needs you

  3. David Payne Says:

He didn’t beat Lewis on any measure you wish to apply.

An old, out-of-shape Lewis was getting on top and smashing Vitaly up.

Klitschko had his chance, couldn’t put Lewis down and was looking at a beating.

Lewis will never fight again. He’s arguably the best advert for pro-boxing in so many respects.

  4. Leonard Harding Says:

Vitali should let the Lewis thing go. When all is said and done he had his opportunity and couldn’t beat the man. Lewis as we know cut him to shreds (What does that tell you about Vitali’s defence). If he wants to comeback, do so and clean up the heavyweight mess and create your own little legacy. Otherwise just stay retired and stop whining about a fight that you lost fair and square that was stopped because it looked like someone took a machete to your face.

The best fighters bounce back from adversity!!

  5. Gary Naz Says:

If lewis is such an all time great, why dosent he come back to prove klitschko wrong. Lewis retired without letting anybody know what his reasons are, the only reason I could think of is that Lewis is scared to lose a challenging fight. Just like Floyd Mayweather wants to avoid De La hoya by trying to retire. Lewis isnt a tru champ like Tyson, Holyfield, and many others from back in the days…he is just a fighter who has to will to fight any great fighters, defeating Tyson and Holyfield did not prove anything to Lewis and teh fans, it just proved that he could defeat 40 year old fighters. If Lewis wants to receive the respect of the fans, he should fight Klitschko this one time and retire from there on.

  6. waseem Says:

you show stay retired and let your brother take care of the poor division, you should come back only if lewis does

  7. UKRAINE Says:

Why is it that when all the great fighters are old you have these nobody’s trying to prove they can take on the champions of champions… Just when Tyson, Ali, Hollyfield… are old you have fighters beating them and saying that they’re all that. Why was it that when they were young they were undefeated, and when they get older you have these young guys proving something. If klitschko didn’t get his eye ripped he would have ripped Lennox apart no matter what! It is a good thing that they stopped the fight because something could have happend with vitaly’s eye. But the point is champions are champions and no matter what they stay champions just like Klitschko.

  8. Lifi Says:

Vitali, please come back.Lewis will never fight again.i know ,you beat Lewis in that fight. The heavyweight division really needs you.You are a great and a real heroplease come back

  9. wayne Says:

Vitaly is obsessed with Lennox Lewis.

  10. Dmitriy Says:

The Klitschko brothers bring some respect to the sport of boxing, they respect other boxers, they are college grats, smart, good, great boxers. Lewis will never come back, everyone knows that. Vitali is better and Lennox knows that, Vitali should come back and prove he is the best by killing everyone in the division.

I would love to see Vitali and Lewis get it on. I don’t think Lewis would though. We must be circumspect about the first fight, realizing that it was the correct decision to stop it because of Vitali’s eye. This was a lucky break for Lewis, because I don’t feel that it was his fight at that point, and neither do most others. I don’t feel that Vitali has the time ot clean up the rest of the division and then take on Lewis, let them fight first and all others will come knocking. Then there would probably be a $50 million dollar payday for a Wladimir vs. Vitali fight, wouldn’t that be intersting?

  12. Mark S Says:

    Remember one crucial thing guys.

Vitali took the Lewis fight at short notice, my cynical side says Lewis did this on pupose and looking back I think yeah Vitali was winning the rounds but also Lennox started to get to Vitali but it was very close.

I would say that if Vitali has a bad knee problem (I myself suffered torn ACL - cruciate ligament), he should forget it as his knee with any kind of ligament tear is unstable with twisting.

Notice tyson’s inaffective punches against Williams after he jolted his knee, you can just tell he’s never recovered from this (IMO).

But back to Klitschko, I think Vitali is probably the most underrated boxer of the last 10 years.

    All the best guys!
    Mark

  13. ron j Says:

after the tyson fight lennox could not get up for vitali because that was his personal pinnacle fight, he said it himself. Lennox was winning the fight with vitali. Vitali should have knocked out lennox if he feels he was so much better the better man. The fact is he lost because he was a bleeder and needs to get over it. You people who keep saying “oh vitali was winning” need to check the facts. TKO victory for lennox and for once a boxer who is content in retirement. Why should lennox do the muhammad ali routine and keep fighting and risking permanent injury. Once a man turns near 40 his boxing fire begins to wane considerably, go ask mike tyson. peace out.

  14. audley harrison Says:

Listen vitali was not only winning the fight but did win the fight in people eye, lennox only won on paper but really lost. some sick person here who would batter his own mam for £5 said that it would be interesting for wladimir and vitali to fight for £50 million dollars, let get one thing straight i am a nobody and I wouldn’t fight my own brother for all the money in the world, these 2 klitschko brother have everything in the world and there nothing on this universe that could make them fight

  15. james soni Says:

erm lennox was not 40 but was 37 against vitali fight, u can never compare lewis or tyson because tyson was champion at 20 and lewis first become champion at 27-28, tyson was in his peak at the time when lennox could not knock out the 35 year old Ossie Ocasio, Ossie Ocasio was knocked out in the first round at 25yrs old by michael dokes.
lennox has peaked in his late age as everyone knows as lennox has admitted himself, the truth is vitali beat lennox that badly that suddenly he made lennox look old and past his peak when klitschko had only prepare 11 days before this fight, u must put in mind that lennox has put 100% in boxing but klitschko has put 100% in kick boxing, boxing, education(p.h.d), and politician(run for mayor this year), vitali is on another level compare to lewis and shud not be compared
