Wladimir Klitschko TKOs Calvin Brock

Klitschko overpowers a game but overmatched Calvin Brock

Wladimir KlitschkoIBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (47-3, 42 KOs), aka Dr. Steelhammer, stopped previously unbeaten Calvin “The Boxing Banker Brock (29-1, 22 KOs) in round number seven at New York’s Madison Square Garden Saturday night.

Using his advantages in height, reach and experience, Klitschko fought off Brock’s relative success in the early rounds to take charge of the bout in round five with a stunning series of jabs that stopped Brock in his tracks.

Although bleeding above his left eye from an accidental headbutt in the sixth round, Dr. Steelhammer found the range and dropped Brock to the canvas with a strong jab followed by a devastating right in the seventh. The Boxing Banker beat the count, but he was on wobbly legs when referee Wayne Kelly waved off the fight at 2:10, allowing Klitschko to retain his heavyweight titles.

Wlad was very impressive against a very good defensive fighter. Klitschko is obviously the king in this division. As far as brock goes I think he’ll be around for a while, and still a very good fighter. I expect alot of boxingfans to begin brock bashing, but he is a very good fighter who was just beaten tonight by a better fighter.

This is one that could have went either way, Lets see if the russian will fight a real contender now. Brock was a descent contender but hardly a title challenger. I would like to see toney get his title fight.

  3. Nawfside says:

ooohhhh!!!! what did I say!!!! Wald KOs Brock in SEVEN OR LESS!!! Brock was out before he pancaked faced down onto the canvas. Bring on Maskaev,Briggs and VALUEV LET’S GET UNIFIED!

  4. Phillip says:

yeah we all think mayweather fights weak competition also, but we also know that he is the best fighter in the welterweight division.

  5. nostradomus says:

for me wlad is the undisputed heavyweight champ.
    i dont see enyone else.

Brock was truly impressive as a defensive fighter. No doubt that he will be around for a very long time. I respect him for even getting into that ring with Klitschko! Wladimir proved to the world wholeheartedly last night that he’s the best belt holder of the 4. I look forward to him unifying those titles in the future!

  7. Paulie says:

OK, so NOW can we see the heavies try to unify the titles?

  8. stax brix says:

as long as king’s fighters hold the belts they wont be fighting each other.

the worst display of boxing i’ve seen in a long time.
i took one look at brock and figured if he lasts 4 rounds i’ll be surprised.the crew agreed.after falling all over the place including on klitschko,he managed to headbutt a cut.WOW!
now here’s the question,if klitschko is as good as his promotion why didn’t he dispatch brock sooner.defence!falling down?great defence.
perhaps the promoters took a page from don king.
ok guys let’ s give the fans a few rounds to discuss.
    the boxing banker?hmmmm…..

Well Brock had a better defensive game than Chris Byrd had against Klitschko, and Byrd has a good a defense as anyone fighting in the heavyweight division with maybe the exception of James Toney. It was also stated during the fight that Brocks opponents had an average 20% connect rate against him. Thats good defense.

Vlad may be the top heavyweight but i wouldnt rush to judgment yet.dont forget his china chin, any one of the champs ,and i use that word loosley, can crack him and it’d be over.

  12. nostradomus says:

yes bil,he can still go down but who do you think is going to knock that chin out?,i dont see valuev, toney, maybe maskaev??
    maskaev and briggs maybe.

brock panicked abit and, found hem self down. now we know that lamon brewster was brave to beat this big guy, haa??.

massive respect for wlad,he’s on the way of becoming the undisputed heavyweght chap of the world, but has got just two more fights next and hes there, undisputed!.

valuev is would be easy for wlad.makaev and shannon could make thing’s dificult for wlad.

Sometimes boxers take some time to adjust to an opponent. Brock has a strong defense and for the first four rounds that defense held against Wlad. But in the fifth round Wlad adjusted and his jabs started sailing over Brock’s defense. Soon the right hooks followed. And by the seventh round Wlad had Brock’s number and rand it with two hard rights. One to stun him and one to knock him flat to the canvas.

I think Wlad is at the top of his game and the glass chin may no longer be the case. I’d put him over any fighter right now with the possible exception of Valuev. Valuev is a radical departure from any type of fighter Wlad has ever fought. He’s undefeated ( but so was Brock ). Worse its entirely possible that the SteelHammer may prove unable to hurt the “Iron giant”. I’m not sure Wlad has ever faced an taller opponent with a longer jab.
