Buster Douglas Will Not Be Arrested

Former heavyweight champion Buster Douglas a free man

Court officials in Columbus, Ohio say an arrest warrant for former heavyweight boxing champ James “Buster” Douglas has been canceled.

The big man, who ascended in status from underachieving journeyman to upset specialist for the ages when he beat Mike Tyson in 1990, owed more $400 in outstanding fines and court costs.

That stemmed from a September sit when he let his bro use his identity to apply for a cycle license.

But Douglas got wind of the inevitable police dragnet and paid up this morning.

The fighter, who was born in Columbus, and was hailed by singer/songwriter Warren Zevon with a verse of “All hail the man from Columbus/All hail Buster Douglas” at a Columbus concert right after he shocked and amazed the world by dethroning the undethronable Tyson, had until October 26th to pay the money owed to da man.

A Franklin County Municipal Court clerk told the AP that the warrant was issued the following day.

It’s always a “white eye for boxing” when a fighter or ex-fighter staves off arrest…

Now this guy had hit the biggest lotto in sports history and BLEW IT! People criticize Mike Tyson for his life that turned upside downinsideout, but DOuglas could not even handle the preasure for a few short months! Tyson lived under this preasure cooker for years and years! DOuglas had the opportunity of a lifetime and folded under preasure. Oh well…

I never forgave Buster for not giving Tyson a immediate rematch. That’s nothing against Buster personally. Buster to his credit was the biggest one shot wonder in the history of all Sport’s.

Buster should’ve been counted out in the eighth round.
Wonder how different the lives of Tyson and Douglas would’ve been.
Amazing that life can be defined by two seconds – the long count.

Douglas received the biggest gift of all when the referee allowed him to continue. Fittingly, according to those dramatic two seconds, the round ended after he regained his feet, giving him a minute to regain his senses.

I too have never forgiven Douglas, not the refusing a rematch, but for starting the whirlwind that sucked away Tyson’s purpose.

Tyson once said I’ll now how good I am when I’m defeated.

We all know how good he is/was too.

Buster started it all. Well done him.

Buster was busy in court with Don King
    after winning the belts ..
why should he have given a rematch
when they were trying to strip him of his belt
some believe he took a dive against holyfield
as King still had options on him and he didn’t
want to make more money for him …
