Lamon Brewster To Return

By Robert Ecksel December 5th, 2006

Former champion Lamon Brewster cleared by docs to fight

Lamon BrewsterFormer WBO heavyweight champion “Relentless Lamon Brewster (33-3, 29 KOs), who won the title from Wladimir Klitschko in April 2004 and defended three times before losing his crown and suffering a detached retina in his fight against Sergei Liakhovich in April of this year, has been given the all-clear to fight and is eager to return to action at the earliest possible date.

“Contractually I am a free-agent, says Brewster, “and I am ready to move on and go after what the public demands, and that’s an exciting aggressive American heavyweight who will unify the belts.

“The eye injury was an unfortunate injury, and it cost me the title, but I learn from every fight, and I intend to be very aggressive in all my future bouts. My strength is my power and I intend to KO all opponents from now on.

Many people had pinned their hopes on Brewster as the heavyweight champion to watch, especially after his dismantling of Klitschko, and even though those hopes were dashed by White Wolf Liakhovich, Brewster’s not done with boxing, not by a longshot.

“I’m making a vow to the American people, Brewster continues. “I will be in the best shape of my career, even before I begin my next training camp, and I’ll be in the best possible condition for every fight. I put all my heart into every fight and I’m the only heavyweight out there providing exciting fights to the boxing public. I’m going into the ring to take out all opponents quickly. Once I get a title back, I promise to only go after the other champions and to unify all the belts.

Whether or not Brewster can win a belt, let alone unify, only time will tell, but he has his eye on the prize and the four heavyweight champions still standing.

“I have one goal and one goal only: to unify the heavyweight division with resounding power and exciting bouts. I want to keep my promise to the people. Maskaev, Briggs, Valuev and Klitschko, if you have the heart, and you’re not scared let’s do it, let’s give the people what they want, and let’s return the heavyweight division back to the glory days with one unified champion.

Brewster should have won that fight against Sergei Liakhovich. It almost seemed as if he either under estimated the guy or just didnt show up for the fight. I also noticed that Brewster’s “slugger style” holds no ground to a “half way” so - so boxer. I think Brewster’s claims of unifying the belts is just words and all talk that he cant back up. Not with the boxing skills he has - “no way”. The guy’s who have the best chance at unifying the belts are Klitschko and Briggs. Even those two cat’s are suspect to someone with more determination, heart and “boxing skills”. I know Cory Saunders of South Africa is drooling all over the thought of having an opportunity to fight Klitscko - who is a “sucker” for a “straight hard left” - “all day long”. Brewster is about Saunder’s height and weight to. All you gotta do Brewster is look at that fight between Cory Saunders and Klitschko to know how to beat him. If I were as big as Brigg’s I would be Heavyweight champ for at least 5 years straight knockin out anybody and everybody who even breathed my name! It’s a shame….if Brigg’s doesn’t unify the belts alone just on his physical gifts. I will then give up on African American fighters in the Heavyweight division - “for now”. Does anybody know of any up coming black heavyweights who really have what it takes? I laughed when they were trying to hype up this “banker/accountant” guy who just got knocked out by Klitschko. I knew that brotha couldn’t whoop me on the streets! Stick to banking black man! Your performance was so embarassing I forgot your name - now that’s sad!

I agree. Lamont Brewster talks about unifying the belts. Well that’s just talk. King talks about having one heavyweight champ only he forgot their really isn’t a money making machine around these days that can captivate a nation like Tyson did during his heyday. One Heavyweight Champ has become old hat like don’t hold your breath,in one ear and out the other.

you guys will eat your words.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Hans Says:

One thing I really like about Brewster is his heart. In the Klitschko fight he was getting the snot beat out of him, he was knocked down and even on queer street once. He survived the onslaught and won the fight over a tired and colapsed Klitschko. I thought his fight with Sergei was fight of the year, 12 rounds of back and fourth. Will he win all the marbles? I don’t know. Will he provide good fights ? YES! Even if Brewster doesn’t win, the other guy knows he was in a fight. Brewster vs. Peter/Toney! Brewster. LB vs. Sergei II, LB. LB vs. Briggs, LB. LB vs. Giant, LB. LB vs. Maskaev, not sure take LB. LB vs. Klitschko II, ??? because of recent performance Klitschko.

  5. The beast Says:

I think Brewster would easily KO Briggs.

  6. Fraser Says:

Wlad wouldn’t make the same mistake against Brewster this time. If the stoppage comes then great but otherwise Wlad will run away with it on points.

  7. bill major Says:

briggs cant even move out of a 3 x 3 ft area, how the hell is he going to beat any of the other guys holding the belt ? he would be exhausted if he had to exert himself. the white wolf gave him the fight for some reason thats why he won,it wasnt that he was the aggressor throwing bombs, sergi
just was terribnle that night. i like briggs but come on,how can a guy that has asthma going to beat these champs (chumps) ?

  8. AaronW Says:

If Klitschko could outpoint Sam Peter, no way will he lose to Brewster a second time.

  9. Ralph Says:

Take a good look at the 4 beltholders calling themselves champions right now and I can easily see Brewster handling any of them, especially Valuev & W-Klit. Brewster may be a one dimensional slugger, but the guy is usually in great physical condition, has a solid chin, & with the possible exception of the Liakhovich bout, he always steps into the ring ready to let it all hang out. Take away the eye injury in his last bout (Liakhovich) and he’d have probably stopped that mediocre fighter in the mid to late rounds of that match. A return bout with Klitschko, no doubt in my mind - would amount to nothing more than a carbon copy of the first match, unless Brewter finds W-Klit’s pathetically weak chin a few rounds earlier in the second fight - which I seriously doubt will ever take place. Like I say, I really see no reason Brew can’t unify against these other beltholders, unless the promoters prevent him from doing so - which is a very real possibility.

  10. Mr Payback Says:

brewster could beat briggs who i see as the most vulnerable champion mainly because of his terrible stamina, i think a fighyt with maskaev
would be a war very exciting to watch , but i don’t think maskaev is eager to fight lamon, truth is i don’t think lamon is gonna get another title shot unless he begs don king to let him fight valuev, that might happen and i would strongly favor valuev, i like brewster but he really is’nt that good and i bet he is probally half shot and past his prime now anyway.

  11. Brandon L Says:

Brewster will fight anybody, anywhere,.I think he will come back and resurfuce himself, and give any heavyweight that wants to fight him a problem. I have not seen a clean KO since Brewster left the ring. And when he gets back THE ART OF THE KNOCKOUT PUNCH will be once again exhibited by Lamon. Its just a matter of time ..(Dont sleep on Brewster)

  12. james soni Says:

the only reason lamon won klitschko is because he was drugged, no fighter out there is dumb enuf to punch himself out in 4-5 rounds especially someone with a phd also wladimir made this mistake with ross purity and had learned not to make this mistake again.

  13. michael brown Says:

what are you going on about that since lamon has left the ring you have seen no clean knockout, I have proof here that lamon has scored no clean knockout since 1999 against quinn somthing. This is the proof http://boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=008987
, also if you missed last month fight wladimir had scored a clean knockout against calvin brock, this is the proof
    http://boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=007035

  14. Brandon L Says:

What do you mean he was drugged. Was he drugged against Corrie Sanders too? OH what about D.Williams, he did all he could to stand up in that fight. You say Lamon has not scored a clean KO what about Krasnsqui or, The first round KO on Golota. In both of those fights Lamon was the underdog. I have a better KO what about when he KO VITALI. No excuses a KO is a KO critics wish they could take that fight from him but they cant. GET OVER IT.
