Possible Match 17 date for Pacquiao/Barrera rematch
He emerged in 2006 as a pound-for-pound contender and has for years been seen as an all-action banger, so the people are eagerly awaiting the next move for Manny Pacquiao.
His trainer Freddie Roach is on record as saying that Pac Man, age 28, will eventually square off with Marco Antonio Barrera next year.
“We are headed in that direction,” said Roach to the Manila Bulletin.
April is the likely ETA for the Pacquiao/Barerra rematch, since Team Pacquiao will need to clarify his promotional status with his suitor Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) and Top Rank.
Golden Boy is wanting a March 17 date for Pacquiao-Barrera 2 on HBO, but specifics need to be attended to…
Barrera, who’s 32 and hasn’t been called the Baby Faced Assassin in a couple of years, succumbed to Pacquiao in their Nov. 2003 bout. Pacquiao doled out a nasty beating in San Antonio that finally finished in the 11th.
The Filipino came in the underdog and left with a larger fan club and Barrera’s increased respect. Pac Man would not be considered the underdog this go-round…

the odds are against barrera. its going to be a tough assignment for the aging assassin. but i believe that barrera if he could pick his spots very well this time around, box a lot more while unleashing those killers combos in perfect timing that earned him the nickname, then hell win via UD. im going for barrera. (i think a sharp right bolo punch while backpedalling to counter mannys left cross is another key for him to win the battle) Barrera in UD

Barrera is a great champion and I have a lot of respect for him. But I think Pacquiao is just too powerful and fast. I think Barrera will be knocked out in the early rounds. Both Morales and Barrera are great fighters and they deserve to be in the Hall of Fame but Pacquiao is just in another level. I want to see Pacquiao fight Mayweather. That will be one hot ticket.
It sounds good, but it’s just that… too GOOD. Pacquioa vs. Barrera II would be great. But let’s be realistic here, does Marco really have a shot? He’s been in some brutal wars over the years, and I don’t think he’s ready for Pacquioa. What should seem like an easy win will probably end up interesting. I hope Manny wins and get’s ready for Marquez.

marquez is nothing but a second rater. barrera is the real deal. hes the current crowned king of 130. and please, dont compare mab to erik. mab is a perfect blend of grace and power. hes a lot smarter and powerful than erik. and yes, he is the underdog this time and its going to be a hell of a tough assignment for him. and its maybe the toughest fight of his career. its easy to see him losing against a monster in the person of pac. but hell, upset is as old as the game itself! to all of u who regard pac as some kind of an indestructible machine, remember that buster is 49-1 underdog going up against tyson & u know what happenned.
everybody though that barrera is done after his 2003 humiliating KO lost to the pac. but look where he is right now. still the man to beat at 130. gentlemen, barrera UD pac.
mockingbird, I respect your admiration for Barrera and like I said Barrera is a great champion and many people say he’s the greatest Mexican fighter of all time. It will be a good fight.
right now all i can say is pacman is the most powerful the quickest and has the most blinding punch of all 130 lbs guys.. just think of it? will the aging barrera can stand a chance on a sledge hammer like pacman.. yes he’s spirit may do.. but is the flesh strong enough.. think again not all kings rule for the rest of their lives, there will always be another one to replace.. and that is pacman and this is the time.
If Barrera boxes the entire fight, he might have a chance. But at his age and all the wars he’s been through, I doubt he’ll win.
I like them both. This will be hard for me to call, but I’m slightly leaning more towards Pacman.
Correction: Barrera WAS a great champion. This is not the case anymore, he is on his victory lap, cashing in his last major meal ticket. No way can he keep up with Manny – No way. Old man Vs. Young man, there is nothing that Barrera can do that Manny cannot answer 2 times over. I am unbiased, even of Aztec descent but I am a realist and an objective person. I am not too sure who can beat Manny right now…
i believe that MAB is a great champion..king of the hill, indeed. But i guess manny is still in the peak of his career right now and there is no way Marco can keep it with him…even tho he would play cat and mouse with manny, manny would surely catch him with his straight left eventually in the later rounds..manny by KO
Barrera is a KO waiting to happen!!! The only question is in what round? I am willing to bet Barrera will not get to round 6… Barrera will kiss the canvass but before that, he will eat alot of rubber.
barrera’s a great fighter, a future hall-of-famer. but he will definitely lose to the pacman. one, the age factor will be against him. he’s had no knockouts in the last few fights; just respectable, average wins. that tells us that he’s no longer the same exciting player that he was before. two, pacman was already devastating in their first fight, but he has since improved tremendously. his sledgehammer right is now just a tad weaker than his fearsome left. his defense has improved. there is no way barrera will be able to handle that.

Great comment guys! Like I said, I believe Manny will win. But regardless of the outcome, Barrera is still a great fighter who deserves a lot of respect. I look forward to more exciting Pacquiao bouts in 2007. He’s brought a lot of excitement back to the sport. Way To Go PACMAN!!!
after his shocking loss to the pac, wc i viewed as a temporary setback, barrera scored a string of wins: 2 KOs and 4 decisions. this record clearly indicates that barrera, despite of his age, still has it all to either score a KO or outpoint opponents if the fights go the full distance. and given marcos ever-improving ring generalship, his 2003 loss would be avenged this time via UD12.
and guys, give me a break about this age thing. tell that to george foreman, bernard hopkins, thomas hearns and a lot more. u cant equate aging to being shot.

am a mexican and im a great fan of marco antonio barrera but theres no way he can keep up with the speed and strength of the pacman.lets be realistic.i really doubt this fight will end up to the latter rounds.

I was trying to be civilized Mingo Falco but I guess you’re not. I know boxing is a man’s sport and I am sure it’s not for you. I do mixed martial arts and I know what it’s like to fight. That’s why I have respect for every fighter regardless of where they’re from. You can talk shit all you want. Let’s just watch the fight and see what happens. like i said, its going to be a tough job for marco. im not saying that mab would just run off pac and beat his ass into submission. im merely suggesting that marco would win as he still has it all to pull an upset. by the way, im of both mex and filipino descent and a big fan of MAB and luisito espinosa. i was never a fan of pac. i love it when he does it on the ring but i hate it when he meddles in politics.
