Peter/Toney II: Peter has the brutal punch
By Robert Ecksel December 31st, 2006Samuel Peter claims he has “dynamites in my two hands
Heavyweight contenders Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare Peter and James “Lights Out Toney get it on a second time this Saturday from the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Fla. (Showtime).
The hard-slugging Peter, unlike Toney, is one of those strong, silent types notorious for letting their fists to the talking one the opening bell sounds, but the Nigeria Nightmare is as confident as ever and determined to turn Lights Out’s lights out for good.
“I have got dynamites in my two hands, said Peter, according the Lagos, Nigeria Vanguard, “and I will crush James Toney once and for all. The Toney camp made the mistake of their lives by protesting and seeking a rematch. I am ready to teach him a bitter lesson.
Sam Peter walked away with the W for Peter/Toney I at the Staples Center in LA last September, but it was by disputed split decision—a verdict so disputed, there was even a dispute about the dispute—which forced the WBC’s hand into mandating Saturday’s rematch.
Samuel Peter is the biggest thing to hit African boxing since Ghanaian superstar Azumah Nelson rocked the feather and junior welterweight divisions. The President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, Prince Olaide Adeboye, admitted, according to allAfrica.com, “We are rooting for Samuel Peter, of course. He is one boy we believe in to bring back the country’s lost glory in professional boxing. I am personally making arrangement to be at the ringside to see him fight Toney again. I was at the first fight in Los Angeles in September.
“Peter has the brutal punch, and to me he was the clear winner of the first fight. But the WBC Board of Governors, of which I am a member, voted 21-10 for a rematch. There was nothing those of us Africans on the board could do in the circumstances. But I believe Peter will confirm he is better than Toney and will then go ahead to meet the champion and claim the belt for Nigeria and Africa.

James Toney has never been knocked out yet. I have a hunch if Toney can remain standing for 12 rounds he will be the sentimental winner, again. Still Sam Peter wins the rematch either way. James Toney is too old and his new found condition coach will prepare him for a serious pounding from Sam Peter.

I wonder why Peter is saying that. He said he is going to knock Toney out in four rounds for their first fight. That didn’t happen as we all know. Actually he hurt Toney only once and that was in the fifth round. And besides Toney kicked the shit out of him and actually didn’t lose. Toney is going to kick Peter’s ass worse this time.

It amazes me that both of these fighters, as fat as they are, can still fight as well as they do. Yes, Toney was one of the greatest middleweights of all time, and can slip a punch like no other man can, but he is just way past his prime and I don’t think he has what is takes to beat a man like Samuel Peter. I watched their last fight and was bored the entire time. I can bet, though, that if these two boxers are able to slim down and get into what we fighters like to call “ring shape” it will be a great fight!

Toney is in tremendous shape he will kick Peter’s fat ass all night long!!!!I love James he is the one that can conquer heavyweight division. I think he we will on points but it will be an hard lesson for the Nigerian lier. The heavyweight division needs no big man that can throw one punch at the time, we love s combinations hard punches we love Gladiators like James Toney. Let’s do this James, destroy this guy:

I’m short, fat, and bald too, so I feel Toney’s pain all the way. Seriously doubt though he has a chance against some of these skilled giant gladiators. He should retire if he gets past Peter.

I want to see Peter be more than a home run hitter in the ring - he’s like a guy at the plate who will swing at anything you throw at him, but if he connects, its leaving the park - he’s got serious power and a True Puncher, but thats about it, havent seen much else from him, if he puts some combinations together and can close the ring off on Toney should be an easy night for Sam - Toney can box/punch but doesnt have the power to match up to other heavyweights makes up for it with his superb boxing+defensive skills, all he has to do is be in better shape and just outbox Peter, if hes got the stamina to do it - I want to see Peter win by KO, but see this going to scorecards, its a toss up

As an American, I find myself needing lots and lots of action all the time! And this man is the greatest Nigerian I have ever seen! He reminds me of the tenacity that Christian Okoye would bring to the game after winning the shot put title of all Africa. A couple of Nightmares….A couple of Nigerian Nightmares…..Surrogate Americans!!
