Queen Strips Prince Of Title

The Queen giveth and the Queen taketh away

Naseem HamedFormer featherweight champion Naseem Hamed, recently released from prison after serving four months of his 15 month sentence for reckless driving—Prince was driving his Benz upwards of 90 mph on the wrong side of the road when he crashed head-on into a poor sap behind the wheel of a Volkswagen—has just been stripped by the Queen of his MBE, an honor bestowed on the boxer by HRH when the Prince was riding high.

According to the London Gazette, “The Queen has directed that the appointment of Naseem Hamed to be a Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 31 December 1998, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.”

Hamed’s former trainer, Brendan Ingle, told the Mirror that Hamed’s losing the MBE is a “terrible blow… This will really upset him. He was delighted at receiving the award from the Queen. Afterwards he was so proud he used to show it to everyone.

“It is really sad the way things have turned out. He was a fantastic champion.”

As a personnal friend i know Nas will be upset but reflective about her majestey’s decision. It must seem a lifetime ago he was top of the world.
I also know he will be glad when 2007 is over and then hopefully he can finally begin with the rest of his life.

I beg to differ from Brendan Ingle’s viewpoint about the Prince’s sudden loss of his Boxing Career. From a fans viewpoint I’d say it was the Prince’s fight right before Barerra against the “Vegas Kid”. The Prince struggled with the “Vegas Kid” and was exposed in that fight even though he brutally kayoed his opponent. Let’s not forget The Prince was highly motivated since he was about 12 years old so that counts too for Boxing Years. The Prince started out Hot as a flame and just burned out in a instant.

Quit bitching on this chump’s behalf, Ingle.

This chump nearly kills someone and gets off light? What a world we live in!

Hey, Prince! What about getting back in the ring, eh? Maybe Marco Antonio Barrera can give you another beating.

I guess Naz is another case of an undefeated fighter who is never the same after losing that ‘0′ from his record.

It’s happened to many fighters (Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier among others) and still happens today. Look at Jeff Lacy.

Which makes me wonder - If Floyd does lose to De La Hoya and decides ‘Maybe I’ll stick around to atone for that loss,’ what kind of fighter would he be like then?

this was nothing but pure racism. this almost never happens and yet because naseem hamed is muslim the queen strips him. there are other people who have received mbe and commit offences .
but it is islamophobia any thing they can do to attack and insult muslims furthur they will.
ok so what naseem did was very bad. but the queen supports the war in iraq where thousands of people are dyin every day.

  6. SDB Says:

So which is it Sanchez, racism or islamophobia?

I don’t think it’s either but it is definitely double standards. Lord Archer was sent to prison for much longer and he’s still a Lord.

  7. LoCo429 Says:

Sanchez Ferreira’s got a point: while Prince’s actions are reprehensible and deserved time behind bars, the action by the HRH is completely arbitrary. I am not familiar with British novelty politics, but what is the precedent for this type of action? SDB, racism and islamophobia may be similar ideas, racism may be specific to skin color, but it is perfectly valid that Sanchez Ferreira draws the two together as a possible explanation.

  8. SDB Says:

I don’t agree LoCo, racism is discrimination on the grounds of skin colour, whereas islamophobia involves discrimination against the religion of Islam.
Furthermore there is no proof that either was the reason other than the fact that Naz is of Arabic origin and a Muslim.
Knowing how the British elite works, the discrimination was more likely due to the fact that he has a working class accent or that he is a Boxer, as opposed to a Lawyer or Politician.
However, as I said, I don’t agree with the move and it further devalues the honours system that they can retract an award when the recipient falls from grace.
I would love to hear Naz’s story one day. Naz, if you ever read this and you want a biographer, count me in.

ONE HOOK FROM THE PRINCE COULD HAVE FIXED THAT
