Jim Lampley Busted

Lamps was released from Vista jail in San Diego after posting $35,000 bail.
Lampley is one of best sports broadcasters in the biz. He’s worked for the big three—ABC, CBS and NBC—and his long-running stint at HBO has made him a familiar, distinguished and welcome voice among boxing’s talking heads.
A pot bust many moons ago should have zero effect on the outcome of this latest brush with the law.
HBO was contacted by TSS and had no comment.

What will Larry Merchant say about this? Larry tried and convicted Mayweather when there were issues, and Mayweather was later acquitted and that still didn’t stop Merchant from his criticism … Let’s see if the same logic applies “in house”. Lampley deserves the presumption of innocence just like everyone else, and this does nothing to cloud his reputation as a fabulous announcer but confirms that he like everyone else has issues in life. Hope for the best for all concerned.

the best announcer in the sport, makes a crappy fight watchable, great announcer - and love his excitement - definitely need to blaze with Lampley, would be a great guy to meet

You are right guys, Lamps is a great announcer. You know O.J. Simpson was entertaining too, perhaps we should get the Juice a gig on HBO. The world does not give a damn about victims and the weak. I hope you all come back as 90 pound women and hook up with abusive men and have to watch them be defended in the media.

Gonzo, if memory serves correctly, Jim had hip replacement surgery (I believe on both hips), and I’m guessing no real threat, even on a good day. Lampley is a class act, an that’s an aside from doing his job about as well as you can do it.

nothing should happen to Jim - best announcer period. I watch the Olympics when he’s announcing, thats how good he is! This is kinda like Marv Albert, except not as much media circus, nothing will happen and let the man continue to do what he does best - call fights!!!!!!!! HBO would broadcasts would S-U-C-K w/out him.

HA,HA,HA……. Itis funny that Lamps got busted. Does anyone recall the time he called Jim Rome uninvited to bad talk Hopkins after he started getting props after Hopkins shared his life with the Rome show.

it is going to be another one that apologizes and goes to rehab. That is the model. I have problems,need a second chance I’ll go to rehab.
We are all professionals although not in the media spotlight.
being talented does not make you imune to prosecution,needless to say that a man that beats his wife/girlfriend is just a pathetic loser in the moral department.

We’ve gotta assume Lampley is innocent until proven guilty. If he did what he’s accused of doing, he’ll get help or get punished, whatever. In the meantime, we should drop the noose, put down the tar and feathers, and deal with our own problems.

and after all the years of covering boxing…some of it had
to rub off….for crying out loud…she’s a skinny ass model
they’re all whack jobs…..Lamps is my hero…no! not for the
wall to wall action…but if this is the worst this man has done in
his 30 +plus years, in the business…let us give him due
process……….he deserves that much.

I see that you all have an opinion on something that has nothing whatsoever to do with you. Mr. Lampley’s life is none of your business, I bet if some light was shun on your dark secrets you wouldn’t like it. We all live in glass houses; ergo, it is dangerous to be throwing hypocritical stones. One rather unenlightened individual, to say the least, stated above that Mr. Lampley is not very moral because he beat up a woman. Firstly, isn’t he innocent until proven otherwise, and secondly are you so idiotic to believe that not one female on this planet exists who it would not be immoral to physically harm? This is a crazy world at times, and it’s inhabitants are not all men! Mr. Lampley’s good at his job, and none of us can take that away from him. Before attempting to take a spec of crap from anyone’s eye, please remove the big lump of hypocritical pooh from one’s own eye is a wise adage I once came across in the greatest story I’ve never read !

I gotta say, regardless of how entertaining Lampley is at his job, and whether we like him or not, it’s really none of our business what goes on in the man’s personal life. I hope Jim’s innocent of any wrong doing, but HBO will take the hit either way in the public area and odds are good it will blow over in a short time either way. As boxing black eyes go, this one’s pretty minor.

Why did HBO fire Roy Jones Jr.?Same reason why HBO will fire Lampley.It’s the small groups that picket outside the HBO offices in NYC. At least that’s what they teach in Sociology 101.

Who doesn’t screw up? Lesson learned, we hope for Jim. If it comes down to bad vibs in a relationship, its time to hit the trail. Don’t give booze and pot a bad name, when used properly, its a gas.
We like Jim, so, he gets a second chance.
