Mike Tyson Plea: Not Guilty

Mike Tyson pleads not guilty at Monday’s coke/DUI hearing

Mike TysonIn another instance where truth takes a backseat to expediency, one-time heavyweight champion of the world Mike Tyson pleaded not guilty earlier today to charges of drug possession and DUI.

Tyson spoke only when spoken to at his Monday morning hearing before Commissioner Lisa Vandenberg of the Maricopa County Superior Court, and by all accounts the former “baddest man on the planet was on his best behavior.

A member of Tyson’s legal team, attorney David Chesnoff, said, according to the AP, that Tyson has begun to seek help “for whatever problems he has… Drug addiction is a victimless crime. We believe this is the kind of crime where you shouldn’t go to prison.”

We concur, but realize such thinking hurts the justice business.

“Mike provided a lot of thrills and excitement,” Chesnoff added. “He made a lot of people rich. He’s concerned about this. He’s a sensitive guy. This is not a game to him.”

Tyson is facing felony drug possession for three bags of blow found on his person on Dec. 29, and paraphernalia possession counts, and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of drugs.

Tyson is looking at up to 7½ years behind bars if found guilty of all the charges.

Andrew Thomas, the Maricopa County Attorney, has said he believes Tyson belongs behind bars, in part because of Mike’s prior arrests and convictions, in part because Mike broke the law another time, in part because of the D.A.’s ambition and dumb luck.

    Mike’s actually a two-time heavyweight champion.

  2. Scott Mallon Says:

I suppose the three bags of blow were simply found on his person…someone must have put them there. Jesus, when will this guy wake up? And how bad is it when Tysons lawyer is spouting off such statements of irrelevance like “Mike provided a lot of thrills and excitement.” What does that have to do with the price of tea in China - either the blow was there or it wasn’t./ Either you’re guilty or your not…

Mikey, you’re going to jail which is where you deserve to be.

  3. The Shadow Says:

Hey Scott - if Mike belongs in Jail. What do you say neds to happen about Colonial England & her sister America about Slavery. Why dont we add the genocide attempt to an entire continet of Native Americans as well. Help us all out with that one Scotty. What do you think should be done there Sir? Let Mike kill himself off if thats what he wants to do. Who brings the blow into the country Scotty? Not Iron Mike Tyson that’s for damn sure!! The U.S. Government/C.I.A. should be on trial for bringing the cocaine into this country for lost souls like Tyson. But hey Scotty I’m sure you have an answer to that one to I bet.

  4. kmoney Says:

First of all Scott, no one should go to jail for taking drugs. Jails should be reserved for people who intenionally hurt other people. Once we get all of those people in jail, then we can start talking about punishments for people hurting themselves. Ah but you say Scotto, Tyson has hurt people, in fact, many people. But this time, he was only hurting him himself. So forget jail time its just stupid. Mike Tyson does not need to go jail he needs the Iron Mike Tyson grill. Let him take his place among other great heavyweights. The man is just trying to maintain.

Scotty, Mike Tyson was a great champion once…..what were you once? What are you going to be? Like most us, I suspect something less then a great champion.

Why throw a man like that in a jail to rot? What does that say about our legal priorities? The price of tea in china??

  5. Anita Says:

Remember Scott, we all live in glass houses. Where do you deserve to be?

  6. Rick Says:

Scott….you sound lie another Mike hater….the man does not belong in jail.If he has a problem then he belongs in a rehab where he can get help…not in prison.

  7. wayne Says:

I feel sorry for Tyson. Next too Ali he was my favorite fighter of all time.

  8. Scott Mallon Says:

The guy is on probation and there are laws for a reason. He was caught with three bags of coke - my guess is he’s going to do time for violating probation - as he should. I’m no Tyson hater by any means and I also feel sad he’s got to this point.

Clearly he’s in trouble and as sad as it may be, perhaps another stint in prison will help him get his life straight. He needs alot more help than just rehab….
