Vazquez/Marquez On Showtime
By Boxing News January 23rd, 2007Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez get it on March 3
Israel Vazquez will defend his WBC super bantamweight title against IBF bantamweight champion Rafael Marquez on Showtime Championship Boxing on Saturday, March 3, at 9 PM/ET.
The bout will be promoted by Gary Shaw Productions in association with Sycuan Ringside Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.
Both Vazquez and Marquez hail from Mexico City and are legitimate, hard-punching, world champions who make for crowd-pleasing, exhilarating scraps. Since they burst onto the scene, each capturing world titles, fans have been clamoring for this matchup.
Vazquez (41-3, 31 KOs) is a two-time world champion at 122 pounds and will be making the third defense of the WBC title he captured by scoring a third-round TKO over Oscar Larios on Dec. 3, 2005 in Las Vegas.
Marquez (36-3, 32 KOs) has won his last 15 bouts, including 12 by the short route. The tough, dangerous counter-puncher and brother of Juan Manuel Marquez will finally step up in weight after successfully defending his IBF 118-pound crown seven times.

This fight is why Showtime should be considered THE boxing channel. Why would HBO pass on this fight, it makes no sense.

I am so jealous of those of you who have Showtime, I want to see this fight so bad. It really doesn’t make no sense that HBO would pass up on this, it’s really going to be a great fight.

definitely! this one and the one coming in Feb, Dawson-Adamek and on the undercard Chavez-Diaz should be all action card - Showtime’s Americas Fight Night has been great every 1st Saturday of the month they have a nice competitive card. Compared to HBO who will show you top fighters in complete mismatches and fights that should not be even on ESPN FNF’s, probably Telefutura main event

Saul,
I am a subscriber to Showtime now, but in the past what I used to do was order Showtime from my cable provider and cancel a day after the fight. They’d charge me a pro-rated fee and a cancellation fee. Usually, it was only about $3 to $5 to do this.
You definitely don’t want to miss this fight!!!

Saul… it’s very simple… call you cable company and get Showtime. It’s like $7 or $12 per month… if you can’t swing that, then just get SHO for one month.

Saul… like Christian says, it’s very simple… GET SHO for great boxing. Get HBO for reruns of the Sapranos.
