PBF Lets His Mouth Do The Talking

Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather turns his ire on Ricky Hatton

Floyd Mayweather Jr.It’s good to know that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is focusing on his next fight.

Pretty Boy Floyd is scheduled to meet the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya in a May superfight that most observers expect to will be either a passing of the torch from ODLH to PBF or a swansong for one or both fighters, depending on what transpires, depending on how Pretty Boy Floyd is feeling at the final bell.

But instead of keeping his eye on the prize, such as that prize is, considering that Mayweather says he’s accomplished all he wants to accomplish in boxing, the pound-for-pounder hailing originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, but now fighting out of Las Vegas has turned his attention to IBF junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton.

Hatton (42-0, 30 KOs) has been vocal about wanting a fight with Mayweather (37-0, 24 KOs), at least since his June 2005 demolition of Kostya Tszyu, and while PBF’s remarks regarding Hatton may indicate that the Manchester Hitman may be the next man in line, it’s possible that Mayweather’s talk is just talk, nothing more or less.

“Ricky Hatton ain’t nothing but a fat man,” Mayweather told the BBC. “I’m going to punch him in his beer belly.” the American told the BBC. “I’ve only seen Ricky Hatton fight one time and that was against Urango and he looked like garbage. All he can do is punch and hold, punch and hold and wrestle. It’s obvious that his fights are not more exciting than mine.”

Even though everyone is entitled to his opinion, no matter how childish it might sound, whether Hatton’s fights are more or less exciting than Mayweather’s is for someone other than Mayweather to determine.

“And guess what?” continued Mayweather. “He (Hatton) said he was going to come to America and do 5,000 seats, but 5,000 people come and watch me train every day. Nobody even knows Ricky Hatton. He came over to America and nobody even came to see him fight.”

It’s hard to not respect Mayweather’s skills and accomplishments in the ring, but the same must be said of Hatton. And while Ricky lacks of razzle-dazzle of Floyd—and who doesn’t?—a little mutual respect would go a long way toward healing some of boxing woes, whether PBF knows it or not, whether PBF cares or not.

I’m not a Hatton hater or a “pretty boy” but, Hatton has about a farts chance in the wind of beating Floyd. Out of all the active fighters, I think Mosely is about the only one who could do it as long as he isn’t 40 when they fight. I think Oscar will just get a boxing lesson in a boring 1 sided fight. Welterwieght is a very deep division and Floyd will leave it having only fought Judah and Baldi, (Mitchell doesn’t count) what a shame.

Hatton could not beat Callazo but boxing politics blessed him with a gift. Just so he can be totally embarassed by an even tougher fighter. Let’s keep it real Mr. Ecksel with all respects to your Sir. If Hatton had any faint chance of making it a fight with PBF. Why would he need a gift at the cost of Callazo? Anybody who saw that fight and who know’s boxing. Know’s that “The Hitman” got hit more than he dished out. I’ll make a fight time prediction “IF” a fight with PBF & Hatton ever happens. The ref will stop the fight or Hatton’s corner will. PBF like Ali did Foley will make “The Hitman” submit before 12. I’ll be at the De La Hoya / Mayweather fight. Cinco De Mayo will be about all the Mexican’s will be celebrating that day. De La Hoya doesnt have a snow balls chance in hell.

  3. Ed Egan Says:

Forget Hatton…PBF has no brass! He only comments on another fighter after he’s had enough time to do his analysis of the other fighter and has convinced his fragile ego that he’s good enough to beat him. Until he fights Margarito…I’ll never respect him. Margarito and PBF have a date with destiny. Margarito, after some deliberation, is now willing to take on Williams. Williams has never come close to the destructive force he’ll face in Tony. Once Tony disposes of “The Punisher” he’ll take on Cotto in October and reveal Cotto’s weaknesses. Margarito will knock Cotto out! Cotto is made for Margarito. Then PBF will know in his heart his legacy will never be complete without fighting Margarito. On PBF and ODLH…I agree, ODLH is in way over his head. It will go the distance but PBF will make him look silly.

In reply to Shadow, Anyone who judges a boxing match on the last few rounds would have given the fight to Callazo, anyone who actually judges a boxing match on the boxing match as a whole. i.e the way it is actually judged…..would give it to Hatton. Hence why Hatton won, there was no boxing politics involved.

The problem with Hatton is that he doesn’t train regular, he takes breaks, puts on loads of weight and gets fat, then trains for 13 weeks and fights. Hatton has only trained properly once, and got himself into shape properly once, and that was against Tszyu who he took seriously, and he looked inhuman that night. If he ever fights Mayweather it will be a lot closer than you think, because he will actually take him serious.

  5. The Shadow Says:

Hmmmm….well Rob I’m a Robert so I know your rationally looking at this. But all of what I read that you wrote truely does sound like excuses. Hatton may very well be in top shape that night if PBF and The Hitman fight. He’ll be in better shape to take the inevitable ass whoopin he’s going to experience. Though I must say there is one way Hatton can beat PBF. Tell him to watch some “Aaron “The Hawk” Pryor tapes. That’s the only style & way to beat PBF - “relentless aggression” “never letting up” “Full Tilt” “Non Stop”. Otherwise - you’ll be watching a repeat of PBF/Gatti. Make sure you get that back to your boy Rob - “loud and clear” if he wants to dance with Pretty Boy.

  6. Bigg Says:

Margarito could not defend himself against Clottey boxing. PBF will make him look silly. Hatton never wanted to fight PBF, that why he went back down to 140. Guys stop thinking with your buttock, and use your brain.

  7. Ed Egan Says:

Shadow Dawson…I couldn’t agree with you more on the method required to beat PBF. It has always amazed me that no one has attempted that strategy. I supposed Chico tried but his effort was half-hearted.
Bigg…it’s called boxing for a reason, sometimes you get hit. Clottey never hurt Margarito so his defense was good enough. Lets face it, Margarito is not exactly known for his defense although its not bad at all. He’s all about “punches in bunches”. And by the way…he won the fight by UD. Not a split and with no controversy. You also need to give Clottey some credit…he can hold his own against any top welterweight.

  8. The Shadow Says:

Hey Ed - Hatton can do it if he applies himself. We’ll see if the fight even happens. I think A Mayweather / Moseley fight would put more asses in seats. Hatton is an easier fight for the Pretty Boy. If I was a bettin man. I’d say that’s the fight Floyd will take.

  9. rjack58 Says:

Hatton who? He took 5 body blows from Juan Urango (the 140 lb Carlos Baldomir) and pulled a John Ruiz the rest of the fight! Collazo taught Hatton how to lose! I too want to see Mayweather fight the Margarito/Williams winner, if he beats those guys I’ll give PBF his PROPERS! Oscar as good as he once was is going to get embarrased with Roach in his corner! I think Floyd Sr was worth $1M up front and another $1M if Oscar wins!

  10. Bigg Says:

Ed, you fail to realized PBF will not stand in front of Margarito. It is call boxing, he will tattoo all night. If Castillo could not catch him. Nobody will

  11. mike R Says:

Please that wouldnt even be a fight. it would be a 12 round slaughter of Ricky Hatton. did you see Floyd fight Arturo Gatti. thats exactly how ot would be if Mayweather fought Hatton.Floyd is the pound 4 pound best for a reason and come may 5th he’ll show De La Hoya and everybody that doubts him.

Margarita got his ass kicked by Clottey;it doesn,t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. What rounds did Margarita win?The judges are all retards and anyone that agrees.Ricky Hatton did lose to collazo.Antonio Tarver lost his tuneup fight.Judges should get fined also;they are some cheating motherfuckers.I,m picking Paul Williams to destroy Margarita and then Cotto. Both Cotto and Margarita sucks at defense. They will only be target pratice for Paul.Pbf would do nothing to Margarita,Cotto and Hatton but destroy them.I,ll pick Cotto to destroy Margarita and Hatton.Margarita sucks.
