Delvin Rodriguez Snags FNF Gig

Welterweight Delvin Rodriguez takes center stage

Delvin RodriguezA welterweight to watch, Delvin Rodriguez, takes center stage on March 23 when he gets the headlining spot on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights.

Rodriguez (20-1-1, 12 KOs) takes on Jesse Feliciano (14-5-3 8 KOs) for the USBA Welterweight championship in a scrap scheduled for 12.

Rodriguez, age 26, gloved up against 14-2 Luis Hernandez for the USBA Welterweight title in May. And for what it’s worth, Hernandez extended Paul Williams the full ten in their 2004 bout, but he didn’t make it out of the third against Rodriguez.

In his latest outing, Rodriguez took out Frans Hantindi in one round in November in Canada.

Star Boxing CEO Joe DeGuardia, Rodriguez’s promoter, talked up his prospect.

“Delvin is an exciting refreshing talent, and we believe he is the near future of the welterweight division, said DeGuardia. “He has all the tools to become world champion and the punching power to create the highlight-reel knockouts the fans love. He’d better be because Feliciano is one tough hombre.

Boxing Writer’s Association president Tim Graham is a fan of Rodriguez. “Rodriguez has a style that makes for exciting fights, he goes into a bout with an aggressive attitude and looks to land hard shots.”

The ascendant welterweight, who was born in the Dominican Republic, lives in Connecticut.

Hey, Chad Dawson learned his trade in Connecticut gyms as well.

Tip of the cap goes to CT boxing…

  1. Ed Egan says:

Why do you pump up a fighter who amounts to what is a fringe contender at best…Delvin Rodriguez. So he KO’d someone who lasted against Williams. But who has Delvin really fought? Bums like Feliciano who have lost more than 22% of their fights? Frans Hantindi who last I knew had a record of 10-7-2? Rodriquez is 26 years old and he’s faced nothing but bums. He’s in for a rude awakening the day he fights a real welterweight like Cotto, Margarito, or Paul Williams. His promoter needs to stop protecting him and find out what’s really made of. At 26, its time to step-up or step down Delvin!
