Roger Mayweather Back With Floyd

By Michael Woods March 21st, 2007

He’d been a guest of the Nevada penal system for the last few months, but now Roger Mayweather is a free man, and he’s back in his nephew’s corner, just in time to help PBF get in proper shape for his May 5 showdown with Oscar De La Hoya.

Floyd Mayweather welcomed Uncle Roger back to the gym and his Las Vegas training camp this week, and PBF is psyched.

“When he got to the gym we picked up where we left off and things were back to normal,” Floyd said. “It’s great to have my uncle back and I never thought to pick someone else to train me, as I truly believe that my uncle is the best in boxing and there is absolutely no substitute for what he can do.”

Roger weighed in with his take.

“There is no time for catch-up,” he said. “I’m happy to be back in the gym with my nephew and help him prepare for De La Hoya. I’ve been keeping close tabs on him and am very pleased with how things have been going so far. Now we’re ready to get down to serious business.

“They tell me the whole world is waiting and everyone will be watching this fight. Just wait until they see Floyd at his best and the fans will know why the Mayweather family dominates the sport.”

Roger Mayweather was sentenced to jail for six months in September for committing battery on the grandmother of his infant son in 2005.

My prediction: it’s just a matter of time before Floyd Senior, and Uncle Jeff are added as chief third, and chief fourth…
