Non-Rusty Maske Upsets Hill

By Michael Woods March 31st, 2007

He hadn’t fought since 1996, but long dormant Henry Maske gave a solid performance of himself last night in Germany, as he unanimously outpointed Virgil Hill in a non-title bout.

In a battle of 43-year-olds, it was Maske, who lost to Hill via split decision in his last outing, who most impressed the judges.

Maske rose to 30-1 with the surprising performance, while Hill dropped to 50-6.

While the fight was certain to draw lots of eyeballs in Maske’s native land, there wasn’t much buzz about the scrap in the States. Now, though, a third beef between the two fighters is that much more marketable. There is, after all, a tie to be broken…

i just searched the entire internet to see if there was a single other person that saw the same fight as me. virgil won at least 11 rounds of that fight. since when can you win a fight by standing flat footed and throwing no punches. maske landed one good punch the entire fight. granted virgil was cut and bleeding but it did nothing to hinder his performance as well it did nothing to help maske start fighting.virgil was set up the whole show was scripted to rob virgil hill. maske must be running for political office.
