HBO Programming Note On Calzaghe/Manfredo

By Boxing News April 2nd, 2007

Please note, fight fans, that HBO will run the Joe Calzaghe/Peter Manfredo fight on APRIL 7 at 5:00 p.m. (ET)/2:00 p.m. (PT), and will replay the fight later that same evening at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT), from Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on HBO.

Calzaghe (42-0, 31 KOs) from Newbridge, Wales defends his title against Peter Manfredo, Jr. (26-3, 12 KOs) from Providence, RI in a scheduled 12-round bout.

Co-trained by the Sugar Ray Leonard, and his father, Peter Sr., the 25-year-old Manfredo will fight in front of a crowd in excess of 25,000 at Millennium Stadium, which has a retractable roof that will be closed on fight night.

HBO will show as an opening bout a ten-round lightweight bout between British sensation Amir Khan (11-0, 8 KOs) and fellow Briton Steffy Bull (24-4-1, 5 KOs).

Khan captured silver at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and has been on the fast track since turning pro. Bull, a rugged southpaw with considerably more experience, promises to be the toughest test to date of Khan’s young pro career.

“A year ago, we introduced a new twist: presenting fights from Europe live in the afternoon and replaying them again later in prime time. We’re delighted to offer the same viewing option again for fight fans, says Kery Davis, senior vice president, programming, HBO Sports.
