Kelvin Davis Has Broken Back, Neck

By Michael Woods June 26th, 2007

Kelvin Davis fractured his back and neck in New Zealand and authorities are still trying to figure out how.

The former cruiserweight champ was to fight New Zealand’s Shane Cameron on Thursday, TVNZ.co.nz reported.
Apparently, the boxer was out running, and ended up tumbling off a bridge.

“I’m just getting bits and pieces from him, but you know, I think he’s been kind of out of it, like groggy about it, I mean if you fall on your head, you know you’re not going to be the same,” says his brother/trainer Kelly Davis to the website.

Davis was admitted to a local hospital on Sunday night.

Supposedly, he’d leapt out of the way of an oncoming car, and fell a large distance, breaking his neck and upper spine.

“Yeah I think he’s extremely lucky not to be paralysed - maybe if he wasn’t quite so fit and athletic, it might have been a different story, and that would have changed his life incredibly,” says Dr Bill Farrington, the Orthopaedic Consultant at the hospital to TVNZ.co.nz

Davis, 29, loser of his last two fights (to Darnell Wilson and Terry Smith) is due to have surgery today. TSS send crossed fingers to the fighter, for good luck…
