Calzaghe/Kessler Is On

Joe Calzaghe, the Prince of Wales, will take on Mikkel Kessler at the Millennium Stadium on November 3, according to Sportinglife.com.

WBO super-middleweight champion Calzaghe–who last fought on April 7th against Peter Manfredo, will meet the Dane Kessler, who holds the WBA and WBC belts.

Promoter Frank Warren said to the website: “This is the biggest fight in the world at the moment. Both Joe and Mikkel are at the top of their game. This is one of the biggest fights I’ve put on in the last 20 years.”

Calzaghe, at 35, has been criticized for not seeking out the most meaningful fights, but this bout makes sense to the fans who follow the sport, and he cannot be attacked for the move.

The southpaw has a 43-0 (32 Ks) mark, while the 28-year-old Kessler brings a 39-0 (29 Ks) record to the table.

The handsome Kessler will be the underdog in the pairing, as he has been skillfully matched to this point.

American fight fans liked what they saw of Kessler, though, as he took a UD12 from Librado Andrade in March.
