Question: Would Clottey beat Judah?

By Michael Woods July 11th, 2007

On WNF, they showed Ring’s welterweight ratings.

Joshua Clottey was at No. 8, while Zab Judah is rated No.5.

I say that Clottey, now feeling certain of himself and his skills and his place in the game, handles Judah if they were to fight. Not to mention that I believe Clottey handles their No. 4 pick, Carlos Baldomir.

You guys?

I’m with you, Michael. Everyone who knows boxing knows that if Clottey doesn’t break his hand, he’s the WBO champ right now. Clottey has great power and skill and is one of the most underrated boxers in the game. I think if this fight can happen, Clottey would win UD over Judah.

Clottey handles either of these guys easily — he has great handspeed to go with decent defense and power. The biggest challenger for Clottey in the welterweight division is himself — he came into the ring at 170lbs for the Corrales fight. That’s a good sign that he’s outgrowing the division, and quickly.

Also, weighing 170 the night of a welterweight fight is a joke — the governing body should have stepped in and put a stop to it. All credit to Corrales (RIP) for sticking it out against Clottey in a hell of a scrap.

I think Joshua is the #4 welterweight just below the elite trio of PBF,Cotto, and Margarito.I’m not sure he can beat those guys,he seems to lack the ability to take it up notch in the championship rounds. In that,he reminds me alot of another great African fighter,”Bazooka” Quartey. But he would give PBF or Cotto a very stern test,he already gave Margarito everything he could handle.I think that Joshua should be favored against the other top welters (Cintron,Judah,Williams and for sure Baldomir)

Margarito? Elite????? I would love to see a rematch w/Margarito v. Clottey. Margarito won…ok, whatever. However, fight fans who are being real with themselves know that before Clottey broke his hand in the first 4 rounds of their fight, he was beating Margarito pretty badly and we probably would have seen Margarito knocked out or outpointed badly. PBF and Cotto…they’re the only two elite fighters in that division.

Clottey is coming off a performance where he beat the late Corrales….where Corrales was going from 135 to 147!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take that into consideration and the fact that he LOST to Margarito….people like jumping on the bandwagon……ridiculous, JUDAH breaks Clottey’s face in!!!!!!

I think your KOOL-AID is spiked. If you would’ve read my comment (with a clear head) ,I think that you might have noticed that I was giving Joshua alot of respect.I think that he has the best set-defense this side of Winky Wright. That being said.there have been plenty of boxers that have managed to win with a hurt hand.Bottom Line Margarito Won.

joshua is rubbish just like that clown mayweather.hatton and duddy are real boxers.

  8. Kool-Aid Says:

Bigdaddy…I’ll give you that some fighters win w/broken hands. And you did give Clottey props. I was more or less saying that I wouldn’t consider Margarito an “elite” fighter. He’s ok…overrated, but not terrible.

    Clottey would DESTROY Judah
