Taylor/Pavlik II Is On

By Michael Woods October 23rd, 2007

Jermain Taylor will glove up again against Kelly Pavlik, the man who knocked him out in the seventh round of their Sept. 29 fight, it was announced Tuesday.

ESPN’s Dan Rafael said the rematch probably will happen in mid-to-late February, with the 16th being in the lead at this time. No venue has been chosen.

A huge sticking point for some may well be that the bout will take place at 166 pounds, six pounds over the middleweight limit. That detail acknowledges that Taylor can no longer make 160 pounds with any level of comfort.

Question: does this match mean as much at 166, with no title on the line?

I’m sure it means just as much, if not more, to Taylor. But to the general boxing world, not as much. Pavlik has a hard time making 160 as well, and when he fights over 160, he has even more brutal 1 punch power. I just hope it’s NOT PPV. Good luck to both guys.

I hope it’s not on PPV either. However, a rematch is good for boxing. Can’t wait to see it again!

I don’t know. I think the fight will be a lot close than people think. I have a feeling that Taylor might just win a rematch. There’s a lot of questions to be asked after their first match.

this rematch definitely can not be for the middleweight championship of the world at 166lbs. no way possible do i think its theright thing to do. lets face facts kelly pavlik will still hold the 160 pound belt so fight fans kelly has absolutely nothing to loss. that makes kelly a very dangerous foe for mr. taylor. kelly had j.t. figured out after the 3 round, taylor had, never been hurt like that and i have to give kelly. the nod a k.o. inside nine, although i expect and respect j.t. who will try to box. j.t. will get caught in the corner or on the ropes and that will be the end of the fight . Man BOObS i agree with 100%.

is this for the middleweight title or some kind of joke at 166, this defies all title logic kelly k.o. at or inside ten.

    Def PPV :(
Pavlik will do the same thing. If Taylor will b stronger above 160, so will Pavlik. Taylor surprised me in the first fight. He might even win the rematch, i dont even kno lol. Gonna be a good one!!!!

SHould happen at Super middleweight. Also, I think the result will pretty much be the same

whats the difference? they weigh in at 160 BEFORE fight night then on the night of the bout they weigh 166 or probably more!

I would rather have two guys at full strenght duke it out than one fighter weak and drained of his energy bc of having to make weight and pretty much having already having an excuse b4 they step into the ring….

    Even playing field this way
