Steward Out As Jermain Trainer
By Michael Woods November 13th, 2007Emanuel Steward is no longer the trainer of former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor.
The four-fight pairing is kaput, Dan Rafael reported.
Taylor co-trainer/mentor Ozell Nelson is credited with being the impetus behind the move.
Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29 KOs) will rematch with Taylor (27-1-1, 17 KOs) on Feb. 16.
Will former trainer Pat Burns be back in Taylor’s corner? Will Nelson take over the lead gig?
Stay tuned for the other shoe to drop.

I don’t think it’s gonna matter. As long as Pavlik doesn’t drop his hands and try to “Nate Campbell” himself like last time, he should get the W.

Team Taylor is lost. Nothing it does will be able to handle “The Ghost” Pavlik. Team Taylor is so spooked that it’s trying to scapegoat the great master trainer Manny Steward. Taylor is a lucky middleweight at fighting light middleweights. He should go back to doing that. He never beat Hopkin, and “The Ghost” will kayo him, again. Maybe it’s good that Taylor’s amateur coach has taken the head role, because Taylor is a terrible pro. He is still amateurish. And I don’t think that he can crossover to a good, professional style. He must go for what he knows with his amateurism while he is still young. Youth has been his best trait in the pros.

As much as I am a fan of Pavlik, I just have a funny feeling that Taylor might win the re-match. I think he’ll probably bore us with a points victory, that’s provided he can stay away from Pavlik’s punch. Don’t get me wrong though, I’d love to see Pavlik knock Taylor out again though.

I think Taylor’s gotten to big for his own good. Steward was yelling at him and Taylor got his ego damaged. This is the beggining of the end for Taylor, i’m tellin you.
