Valuev Beats Ruiz In Rematch
By Uncategorized August 30th, 2008Nikolai Valuev won the WBA heavyweight championship Saturday night in Berlin, primarily using his left jab to better John Ruiz via unanimous decision.
The fight was first deemed a split decision, but the score was changed after one judge realized he erred.
The 35-year-old Valuev (49-1) beat the 36-year-old Ruiz (43-8-1) by scores of 116-113, 116-111 and 114-113. Valuev had beaten Ruiz by majority decision in December 2005.
There were no knockdowns.
