RIP, Marco Antonio Nazareth

By Uncategorized July 22nd, 2009

Mexican junior welterweight Marco Antonio Nazareth died at a hospital in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, four days after suffering a brain hemorrhage in a loss to Omar Chavez, the youngest son of ring legend Julio Cesar Chavez.

The 23-year-old Nazareth was knocked down in the first and stopped in the fourth round of their scheduled six rounder in his hometown of Puerto Vallerta. He collapsed in his corner, and was removed from the ring on a stretcher, unconscious.

Nazareth had surgery after the fight, but his condition deteriorated.

His final record stands as 4-4. He was kayoed in three of his four losses, including his last outing, in November. He’d faced Chavez, before, in his fifth pro outing, and lost a decision.

RIP, Marco Antonio.
