Round 12: Cotto is game but has clearly decided to make it through 12 rounds rather than try to win the fight. Manny pursues and fires a ferocious left hand that lands flush on the face. Referee Kenny Bayless decided Coto is done and stopped the fight.

Cotto’s combinations appear slower than they were in round 1. Manny lands a big left seconds before the bell. Manny 10-9.

Alfonso Gomez defeated Jesus Soto-Karass by technical decision when the fight was stopped at 2:14 of the 6th round and sent to the scorecards. Upon consulting the ring side physician, referee Vic Drakulich stopped the fight due to the severity of a cut Gomez suffered by headbutt in the 3rd round. With the win, Gomez earned the WBC Continental Americas Welterweight Championship.

pacquiao has been living on many blessings. a very diligent hard trainer.can take a good punch . he was beat by marquez, he had a good break beating delahoya who was not even a shadow of himself(henson star news). morales sit on his fanny and shook his head , diaz was easy . hatton another freak fight . does manny have a jinx over these guys .
he has avoided several fighters who can beat him . cotto may be just the one if he is not jinxed.

Good attempt at summing up the trivia. Some serious flaws in facts, though:
#8 is false… the catchweight, which both fighters agreed to, is 145 lbs. (not 140 as you stated). Cotto was 146 when he fought Clottey, so he needs to lose only one pound. This will not weaken him at all!
#9 is not accurate as well… Cotto is actually a natural soughpaw, who fights conventional right handed stance and is known to shift to southpaw mid-fight. In other words, this is not really a “classic” righty-lefty fight.
Nonetheless, this will be a great fight and surely worth the $50 PPV!

It is true that Manny Pacquiao has been with his corner for quite sometime now and that is his big advantage towards Miguel Cotto. Manny’s corner is also more populated compare to Miguel Cotto’s corner.
With Manny’s corner, more people .. more problems. It was shown on 24/7. A very busy boxer in training with so many things to attend to, politicians, show business, basketball and of victims of calamity. This guy Koncz, I think this guy is more of a liability cause it seems that nobody likes him in there. He should be Arum’s adviser and not Manny’s adviser.
HBO in their 24/7 showed some points that Pacman corner should adjust to. 24/7 showed that Miguel Cotto is a boxer in training and is just focused in training and complete rest. Whereas in Manny Pacquiao there are some footages shown Manny entertaining some politicians during training. We all know that Manny is running for a congressional seat in Saranggani, Philippines. We know that he likes to win that election, and he knows it won’t be easy specially he is running against a Chongbian, one of the wealthiest family in the region. There are some big ambitions in politics for Manny but it can wait, for now just concentrate on training. Do not underestimate Cotto, he will not be easy on the Pacman. Good if Cotto is going down in the first round, if not then it can be a long night.
Basketball is another issue to talk about. As much as posible, Roach likes Manny to forget basketball during training. It is true that it is a form of exercise but there are some risk also in the game. A lot of things can happen during a game and if something bad happens to Manny during a game that will cause a re-scheduling of the fight… that is going to be a big problem for everybody.
A trainer that understand and knows his boxer very well is best combination in a training camp. A symbiotic relationship between the trainer and boxer during training will be a big advantage for a fighter come fight time.

Pacquiao is susceptible to Cotto’s money punch - left hook to the body. Pacquiao should not throw right hooks to the head like he did to Hatton. If he does, he will be open to a counter left hook to the body and Cotto has knocked out a lot of fighters with that punch. Quick right jabs are okay but Pacquiao should defend his right side of the body as much as possible.

Whatever the outcome is, it will be a great fight to witness. They both make a more interesting fight in the ring than the so-called undefeated Mayweather. He’s got skills, don’t get me wrong but, I’m so tired of seeing a whole 12-round fight of him running away or just throwing 1 or 2 punches and quickly clinching. That’s not how you earn and defend the “undefeated” title. He’s in trouble if he has to fight either Pac-man or Cotto…

I love watching Pac-Man fight, but he will not get past the 7th in this one. This is the first real top tier, not a media-made fighter he has ever faced. Cotto is too strong and one of the mentally toughest guys around. Cotto is a little slow, but pinpoint accurate. Manny likes to block too many punches with his face and ribs. Left hooks to the body will slow him down, and a straight right will end it by the 7th.

I’m huge fan of manny not because I am filipino but because of his ability and his discipline and determination to win inside the ring. I bet on it that he will knock down COTTO on the 3rd and 5th and stops the fight on the 7th round. I’m just predicting ……. and anybody can comment…..

Even I as a Puerto Rican knew Cotto was not going to win it.
Cotto is an all-time great. Pacquiao, however, belongs right in there with Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, Roberto Duran, Marvelos Marvin Hagler and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., among the TOP TEN-maybe even top five-of all time.
Congratulations to MP on another great win and to our Pinoy brothers and sisters for another victory to your country, specially after such tragedy recently.
